  1. Keep your head up mate. I lost mine back in 2008 and finally landed something decent back in April Its tough out there right now but don't let it discourage you.
  2. Its great that you and your brother share this common bond and use it to reconnect with each other.
  3. On the rivers I fish I really like big rocks on gravel flats. These fish love crayfish. Also openings in weeds or transitions from sand to rubble. If your in skinny water any depth will hold fish. Where we started yesterday is a big stretch of water that is 10 inches deep at most. The pool is 2-3 feet and was stacked with bass including one about 19 inches that I broke off due to my lack of diligence when it comes to my line. My son also learned the value of just shaking your rod as we sight fished a bunch and he could see that just letting the bait sit on the bottom and giving it a shake would provoke a rapid take.
  4. Yes that last brown is a truly gorgeous fish. Great work.
  5. So my son and I have been waiting patiently for bass season to roll around and Saturday finally arrives. Bass opener is so relaxed compared to any other opener. No real travel to speak of, because I love river smallmouth the boat stays home and we just wade, no getting up really early because my spots are pretty secret and I know I'll be the only one there, and my son is really rediscovering his love of fishing and the time we spend together for me is very important as he is getting older and getting closer to that time when he'll be starting his own life and family. So I roll out of bed at 9 am and go pick up some Timmies breakfast sandwiches and coffee. Drive over to the buddy of my son's were he spends Friday nights after clubbing and dogging chicks(He's 19 after all). I pull up and he looks pretty rough. He's got blood all over the back of one shoe and I ask him what happened. In their drunken stupor they decided a grocery cart was a viable means of transport to get home from the club. They took turns running and pushing each other and wiped out when they hit a sewer grate. Oh how the lovely brown fluid can make stupid ideas appear perfectly reasonable. After breakfast and coffee he felt a little more alive and by the time we got to our spot he was itchin to go. The technique would be the same, my favourite. Split shotting Yamamoto Flippin Hogs to pockets and holes. First cast for me and first fish of the season We managed a lot of fish in the 11-14 inch range @ 25 or 30 This was Griffin's best of the day This was mine I made a cardinal error yesterday though and forgot to change up my mono after it has sat exposed to the sun for a couple of weeks. This resulted in three really good lost fish before I kicked myself realizing what the problem was. Always make sure you have fresh line. Heres a little video segment not much happening just a nice shot of the river http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnhACkMED7k&feature=plcp Didn't make a full day of it my hungover non thinking son didn't put sunscreen on and now has a nasty burn as he sits in the living room moaning and whining about it. Hope everyone enjoyed their opener for bass can't wait to get out some more.
  6. I might not be popular for saying this but I'd like to see this for almost everything with the caveat that the money went back into that resource. But this is politicians we are talking about and I think theres a fat chance of that ever happening. Its pretty simple as our disposable income goes more and more to the bureaucracy we are going to have to pick and chose where and what we do OR tear it down and start again.
  7. Thats very cool. Means there must be the odd musky hanging about as well
  8. Can someone PM me a link for this vid Im very interested
  9. Flyfishing summer trout in lakes is a tough go. I'd fish wolf river rigs with Yozuri minnows or a perch rapala.
  10. Take up flyfishing I know you have a passion for trout and its a very fun way to catch all fish.
  11. Wow Mike! you have me convinced Im going to have to go. Despite the high water I can see the potential for that being a flyfishing paradise. I going to see about a late June booking, week before bass opens Water should be right levels and the temps will probably still be good that far north.
  12. Flat and straight for the most part and easy to pass. If you get stuck behind a slow vehicle on 17 OUCH
  13. I'll second boat to camping at the Mass. Big fan of Port Rawson Bay. Sheltered from high winds but you might have to share the bay with Anchored boats. Yep lots of people fish Matchedash Lake(Long Lake) I go about twice a year for musky here's a decent one from Long Lake
  14. If you take 11 Fushimi P.P has some pretty darn good walleye fishing. If your doing the river check out Jessie Lake some very big trout there.
  15. Thanks for this great report. I love how lakers show up on video games
  16. I believe what he means is a resident bow. A fish that has lived its entire life-cycle in a stream as opposed to smolting out to the lake to live the majority of its life(anadromous)
  17. I wish we actually had a nice river with real resident bows. We almost did, we had a contract with Alberta to bring in bow river eggs for the Grand above Belwood Lake but then whirling disease hit the rockies and that was the end of that I guess now its the odd fish that doesn't smolt out or nothing
  18. Thanks for the report Kids really love moving water
  19. http://www.news4jax.com/morning-show/P3TA-brings-fishing-campaign-to-Jax/-/1875838/14797350/-/uc98lv/-/index.html
  20. The campsite at Tea Lake might not be open but the smallmouth fishing is decent there and if you camp at Cannisbay its not that far of a run
  21. Chuck and duck my friend. I fish all kinds of streamers on floating fly lines. I will even put a decent size split shot 6 " up from the fly to get it deeper and a more erratic action.
  22. Seriously now I'm hungry. That was an excellent report and I really enjoyed the back story. Kind of reminded me of Traplines North. One of my favourite books on the Canadian wilderness
  23. That's funny. I won't mention how you squealed like a little girl
