  1. Its not good speck habitat either I hear the odd one gets caught.
  2. Bass are present from Smoke Cr all the way down to LOB Its just not great bass habitat
  3. Has the wife cleaned your underwear yet or did she make you do it. I think I would have left a pretty healthy load in my drawers coming face 2 face with a polar bear
  4. For a first time trip probably recommend a July Smallmouth trip or if you want to be adventurous a July Musky/Walleye/Smallmouth trip down the Pettawawa River
  5. I try to fish moving water fish don't seem to be as affected
  6. Not much farther, beautiful scenery, lots of places to camp - Temagami
  7. I'm going to have to go with mermaid. Hopefully they don't put up a good fight. And it would make long trips more enjoyable
  8. I definitely get the temptation. Don't know how you manage to go through life with that handicap..... oh that's right you make up for it by doing these trips. Well I'm glad your allergic...Still having jealousy issues.. my apologies
  9. Well Mike that was fantastic and its truly a shame to share it with only the OFC community you really should submit that for publishing. Now my complaint. Not only did you get to do this wonderful trip and experience probably the best brook trout fishing in the world but NO PORTAGES!?!?!?!? My jealousy knows no bounds! I think I'm going to have to start saving I want to share this trip with my son. As you felt this was like having to do a project for school I'll give a A++ but have to remove one plus for tardiness. I think I speak for all who will read this report and say Bill you did a great job as photographer.
  10. Just got home from work. Was all excited to come on OFC. SIGH Mike, just SIGH!
  11. Not smarter maybe, but a heck of a lot more pressured.
  12. I'm sorry but you won't find more big pike closer than the far north than right in Lake Simcoe. Now catching them on the other hand.
  13. Yes I can see were the mending would be handy, I even use that aspect of braid river smallie fishing
  14. Not to confuse anything but thats because its a trout
  15. Peer pressure/shame. If i see someone breaking a law Im going to mention it to them/call tips. Chances of catching someone one slitting fish are small. Catching them fishing with roe is much more likely to happen. Yes its punishing the ethical fisherman for the few lugans but we already do that with most fishing regs anyway.
  16. Because I stopped steelheading just as braid was coming in. What Bill in your opinion is the best reason for using it? The lack of stretch? I use to run 8 lb xt with 4 lb flouro for everything(least stretch of the mono available) and would just break the boots off unless I got them while the shakers were in @ labour day at china straight.
  17. Starting with the president of the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame.
  18. You do realize the irony of your statement here, right? And to clarify my position. I gave up steeleheading years ago because of the hero attitudes. My only support for the ban on roe comes from trying to stop the lugans who slit and waste fish. To me it seems like the easiest, cheapest solution.
  19. Bill, same here. But I'd have to be pretty sure about it being the WR. If Crossman were alive he'd love to study a WR specimen and I'm sure a lot could be gleaned from such a fish. Killed my first 20" brook trout in a heartbeat I have got larger since and released them with no qualms. One for the wall is enough.
  20. Now Mike, I know YOU think you have a life outside of OFC BUT its been a week that you've been back and I and others here are jonesing hard for this report. Please turn your back on your wife, kids, job and any other TRIVIAL responsibilities society has led you to believe you have and let us, for a few minutes anyway, live our brook trout fantasies vicariously through you. I reiterate Priorities man, PRIORITIES!
  21. But you see they wouldn't be able to fish with it. I don't see people using baitfish in Algonquin Park or people using organic bait in the no bait sections of the Credit,Whiteman's or the Grand. Why, because its an obvious violation of a fisheries act. Eventually roe collection would become a useless effort. You don't see this happening where roe is already illegal BC and US states on the west coast.
  22. I, for one, am all for a roe ban. Also vote for specific fish tags similar to atlantic salmon.
