Car stalling- crankshaft sensor replacement NF
aplumma replied to northernpike56's topic in General Discussion
A teacher told me many years ago "Knowledge is power" never a truer statement has been said. Good job on the repair. Art -
Gas 2.45 a gallon and Diesel always 70-85 cents a gallon more. The split last year was only 40 cents. The funny thing is all of my oil stocks are showing a profit and dividends are averaging 3 to 4 % whoo hoooo. So if you use 10 thousand dollars of fuel and you own 40 thousand dollars of their stock you will be getting fuel at a discount of 16 percent. With the banks paying one fishing lure per 10 years guess which one is better. Disclaimer This is not advise on how to grow your future what worked for me might be bad for you. Art

I keep mine without any treatment so when I rub my eyes they don't burn. Art

I personally love the way my 1989 Ranger runs. I spent a lot of money restoring it because it has the hull design that I found both fast and stable. With the acquisition it might mean more R and D to bring more improvements to an already great product. Art

I thought the same thing Roy that is the wrong video star. Nice Video Simon thanks for taking the time to shoot your trip. We got lots of people just itching for thick ice. Art

My first cold smoke generator OMG it works so well!
aplumma replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
Cold smoking is a process where you can infuse the smoke flavor without cooking the food. It is used heavily in the dairy and soft meats department. Most of the cold smoking is used in combination with a brine and spice soak to cure the meat. You can also cold smoke and then dry the meat into jerky with a dehydrator it is easier to keep the meat at the 140F in the dehydrator than it is in a smoker. Art -
The issues facing storefronts is they need to have prime locations with display area where as the internet can rent a warehouse next to the railroad tracks. To often we as consumers will see the item in the store and get to evaluate it then go home and find it at a cheaper price on the net. The net is also getting in the game with CyberMonday as an attempt to pull in more businesses. The big overhead on net shopping is the cost of shipping since it is not a pallet load going to store X but rather many smaller shipments to various addresses. While many will give you "free shipping" at a cost break point it is just figured in to the cost of all of the items sold. Art

I am waiting for the download so it will talk to the hds5 Gen2 unit before getting one. All of my research has come back as it being a little quieter and the anchor feature as being tighter than the minn kota. The minn kota has a better display on the hand fob as to what the motor is doing though. Art

Over weight on the tire if they are not under inflated. Notify the dealer in writing as well as photos till the issue is solved. Art

Mike I run a Ranger boat just to give you an idea of what works for me and why. I have the back and front deck done in carpet to make standing and kneeling easier. The center of the boat has vinyl with floor drains and screen to catch anything not liquid. They drain into the bilge area and then taken out with the bilge pump. The vinyl area gets hot in the sun and I spend very little barefoot time on it. The carpeted sections are used heavily since I fish barefoot or sandals most of the time. I usually place a wet towel on the vinyl floor and when a fish is landed it is on the vinyl with the towel on it. After a day of fishing the floor gets wiped down and the towel trolled for a little bit to clean it. I lay the carpet with a waterproof glue and skim it all over the wood where the carpet is. This seals the wood to some extent and as long as you dry the boat after your trips they will last for many many years. ( Mine is 28 years and doing fine). Art

Advice on a rod/reel to pack for trips south
aplumma replied to captpierre's topic in General Discussion
Here is a site that makes pack rods they are well made and priced right. I have the 9ft med surf toro tamer and a diawa luna reel. It handles everything you will catch near shore. It fits in my suitcase and no worries about carrying it on or excess baggage. http://www.charkbait.com/cs/csrods-Travel-Rods.htm Art -
Issues getting Water Heater replaced - NF
aplumma replied to hutch4113's topic in General Discussion
The power vent series needs make up air for two conditions one is the combustion process which is not as large as the power vent that uses the air in the room to cool the combustion so it can be piped out in PVC/ ABS. If there is not sufficient air there is an issue of the flue pipe overheating. Art -
Looks like a good time to put this one to bed. Thanks for the opinions but the personal attacks will get threads locked faster than anything else on this forum. Art

Issues getting Water Heater replaced - NF
aplumma replied to hutch4113's topic in General Discussion
Sorry I can't give you any help being Canada has different codes than US. The issue you describe is that the make up air is not from an exterior source. The different between the furnace and the heater is the furnace will have 2 pipes on for combustion air the other is exhaust. The solution according to US codes is an exterior source of combustion air that is not drawing from X distance from windows doors in the house. Hope this helps. Art -

Consulting is the sale of information it is what they are selling. When you go in to their business you are using the product they offer. For the future if you call a lawyer and ask him a question he will track the time he is on the phone with you and send a note to billing to bill you for that time. If an intern brings him a piece of paper for him to read pertaining to your account he will also bill you for that time. A retainer is just an amount that you have on deposit for him to draw on in the process of doing the action you have asked him to do. It is no different than going to a restaurant and eating the bread and then saying the bread is free since I didn't order from the menu. They do this because people will by nature shop around and if they did not charge for window shoppers they would lose quite a bit of billable time. I am a plumber by profession and if I offered free house calls and free estimates I would not have much to show for a hard days work. Art

I beg to differ I have seen many people shoot vermin and just leave them lay. I personally do not hunt bears because I do not like the taste of meat eaters. If it is a management program that is needed to balance something that is out of whack then predator hunting is fine. It is the shoot and let it rot attitude is what I object too. Art

Check with the local plumbing codes to see if a backflow preventer is needed to keep you from contaminating your water supply when using the water pump systems. glad you have the answers you needed to make your decisions. Art

With a whopping 72 likes on that disgusting facebook site I think this is not the sentiment of 99.9 percent of the people in the USA. We for the most part have the same love and respect of wildlife and honor our hunted by being humane and eating our kills. Anyone who does other than that is look at with scorn in my eyes. Art

You can either replace it because it owes you nothing or have the water tested to see if it is still working. The advantage of replacement is the newer unit use less salt as well as the advancements in the resin beads will well be worth it. On a separate note a poorly working water softener is not a health risk so you are not risking much. I could use the old scare tactic of how it makes soap work better and you are killing your appliances but life is to short to worry about those things. if however you have any type of sanitizing system U.V., chlorine, ozone or carbon keep it well maintained your health depends on it. If you decide to go with the battery back up I recommend with hesitation( because they do the job marginally if you keep up on the batteries) zoeller 507 with 2 AMG deep cycle batteries in line (wired for 12 volt ) and a guest marine charger. This will give you a charging system that is as good as the one in your boat as well as excellent stand by capacity. The pumps will also need to have separate check valves if you need a diagram send me a P.M.. Art

back up sump pumps are rarely effective to prevent water damage. First most of the 12 volt units have cheap chargers that cook the batteries and a class 27 battery will run for 6 hours only. The second issue is if it pumps 2000 gallons an hour that is only when the battery is at 100 percent. At 75 percent it is only 1500 gallons an hours etc. The amount of lift and friction loss on a run of pipe will cut the flow rate way down so the 2000 GPH is decreased to 900 GPH with as little as a 15ft head and a 20ft run. They do give you a false sense of security but they are only a glorified marine pump. The water monitor can notify any phone # so if you leave town the neighbor can take the call and get a small generator going on it. Art
