Check with the local plumbing codes to see if a backflow preventer is needed to keep you from contaminating your water supply when using the water pump systems. glad you have the answers you needed to make your decisions. Art

With a whopping 72 likes on that disgusting facebook site I think this is not the sentiment of 99.9 percent of the people in the USA. We for the most part have the same love and respect of wildlife and honor our hunted by being humane and eating our kills. Anyone who does other than that is look at with scorn in my eyes. Art

You can either replace it because it owes you nothing or have the water tested to see if it is still working. The advantage of replacement is the newer unit use less salt as well as the advancements in the resin beads will well be worth it. On a separate note a poorly working water softener is not a health risk so you are not risking much. I could use the old scare tactic of how it makes soap work better and you are killing your appliances but life is to short to worry about those things. if however you have any type of sanitizing system U.V., chlorine, ozone or carbon keep it well maintained your health depends on it. If you decide to go with the battery back up I recommend with hesitation( because they do the job marginally if you keep up on the batteries) zoeller 507 with 2 AMG deep cycle batteries in line (wired for 12 volt ) and a guest marine charger. This will give you a charging system that is as good as the one in your boat as well as excellent stand by capacity. The pumps will also need to have separate check valves if you need a diagram send me a P.M.. Art

back up sump pumps are rarely effective to prevent water damage. First most of the 12 volt units have cheap chargers that cook the batteries and a class 27 battery will run for 6 hours only. The second issue is if it pumps 2000 gallons an hour that is only when the battery is at 100 percent. At 75 percent it is only 1500 gallons an hours etc. The amount of lift and friction loss on a run of pipe will cut the flow rate way down so the 2000 GPH is decreased to 900 GPH with as little as a 15ft head and a 20ft run. They do give you a false sense of security but they are only a glorified marine pump. The water monitor can notify any phone # so if you leave town the neighbor can take the call and get a small generator going on it. Art

By pass valves can leak thru even in the off position. The correct way is to hook up a hose to the valve on the well tank and flush it for 5 minutes. Then disconnect hose and wipe down with alcohol and draw sample. If the sample comes back with out any bacteria you can at that time shock the well with chlorine and let that run thru the softener and it will sanitize it. Art

What do you do with your reel boxes and packaging...?
aplumma replied to adam lancia's topic in General Discussion
If you cant find a box just a few more posts and you can list it in the classifieds here. Good luck Art -
you can get a bicycle flag and put the bracket on the trailer. Just put the flag in place when you are backing down after you get finish just pull the flag. You will not have to get guide ons if you don't need them and it is a 10 dollar solution. Art

There are so many war time stories to hear some heroic and some sad the fact is the ones that are not told by the people are the ones who joined the forces and keep the peace without firing a shot. So far he has offered his professional advise on this subject at least to a dozen people with everyone of them very happy with the results. Waynes back round in metal work is due to his profession of rebuilding wreck aircrafts as well as making/ fitting aluminum floats from scratch. Hope this helps Art

Sorry no you need it to be inside of the pipes and the pump. If you left the lids up on the live well you can snake a hose thru a small hole and duct tape it back closed. Art

A UV system has a few safeguards that can be installed easily for piece of mind. They have an audible alarm that can also be hooked into a solenoid that will shut off the water flow if the UV drops below a safe level. There is a downside to a chlorine injection system if installed correctly it should have a contact tank rated at 10 x your pumps rating so your average 5 GPM pump needs a 50 gallon tank for the sterilazation process to take place correctly. A carbon filter as your final filter will then absorb the chlorine/ taste and odor from the water but has no sterilization properties. Still to this date Silver bearing nitrates in any form does not kill bacteria and all of the filters that claim this are Bull and will have a legal disclaimer absolving them of this criminal claim. The only filtration that has a small chance to remove e coli is a reverse osmosis filter however they are slow to filter and will eventually grow enough bacteria to fail and pass the bacteria to the consumer. I replaced both pumps in a 1989 Ranger due to water freezing and I am way South of you'll. I anti freeze all of my boats because for the cost of doing it VS not is huge. Art
