  1. What others have said and confidence and equipment? I liked to fish a soft plastic bait Texas style weightless in lily pads and wood, hard to do with a wacky style an exposed hook. Depending on the size of the bait used a 3/0 - 5/0 hook gave the lure a slow fall, more time in the strike zone? Casting distance was never much of an issue for me, I usually fished out of a boat and always had an electric motor to sneak in closer. Also some specialized tackle, a closed face spinning reel on a flipping stick made for a spinning reel or 7 foot medium heavy action spinning rods that would handle bigger fish in cover. The reel I used would handle 17-20 pound mono very well and it allowed me to flip-pitch-or cast light weight baits easily. There were enough moving parts on a 6-8 inch lizard that I wasn't too concerned about the loss of action from the hook.
  2. When he showed them his rod they reeled?
  3. Lake Simcoe is rumored to have some nice ones, I know Lake Erie does.
  4. I wonder how many people would be so eager to head south if they hadn't of invented air conditioning? Granted that it was my first trip that far south and I was already heat sensitive due to MS, but a couple of hours outside in the morning and late evening was all I could handle. 65-75 always seemed like perfect weather to me, especially out in a boat fishing!
  5. I had the same experience on the G/B, once the gar moved in everything else seemed to move out. It seems odd because they really can't eat too big of another species of fish.
  6. The high here hit 67 degrees F, my kind of weather! I went to Florida once in August, and thought I was in hell! LOL

  8. As a kid I caught a few in a net one time while catching minnows for bait in a tributary of Lake Erie here once. It was very early spring and 5-6 of them were in the current around a small depression in the bottom swaying with current like eel grass. Maybe 5-7 inches long, and I have never seen another here since. While fishing in a water supply reservoir for the city of Norfolk Virginia I had some kind of eels cutting my golden shiners in half. They were much bigger 2-3 feet? Almost had one in the boat, but decided I didn't really want him there!
  9. LMAO! It's a conspiracy! I can almost see the headlines now, Obama brought them with him from Kenya! Obama offers healthcare to invasive species! LOL

  11. Never had a problem with the US Postal Service, when I traded on ebay it was my preferred way to ship and receive.
  12. One of my buddies brought over a magazine article written by an area bass pro talking about the small mouth fishing in Lake Erie. It seemed to be his opinion that 30 years ago you couldn't catch small mouth of the size you can today. We were both of the opinion he must have been sitting on a white bucket on a pier trying. I am sure there are a lot of factors involved?
  13. We seem to have a death a month just in my immediate area of bikers, some just don't have good judgment but some people in cars don't seem to notice them either. I was coming home from a bass tournament with a buddy years ago, on the interstate highway and passing a slower car, I was in the far left lane. Two guys on crotch rockets blew by me on the left berm, both had girls on the back of their bikes, and a distance behind them? The highway patrol in pursuit. One guy eventually pulled over, the other guy? Down the on ramp entering the interstate, just glad it wasn't any of my daughters riding with morons on bikes.
  14. Up periscope (1959), most of the younger generation have never seen it. Not your typical Hollywood actor, only one wife for life?
  15. Lew I used to stop on my trips to the Falls at the parking areas along the parkway for a look. A beautiful river, but I was sort of surprised at the current, nothing in my area to compare it to. A certain amount of respect for the waters you fish prevents accidents?
  16. Just from a tourist's view along the Niagara Parkway? It would take a lot for me to go out in that river with out a properly powered boat.
  17. This, I actually had a couple of them wander thru my yard a couple of years ago, they are even rarer here.

  19. http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,4570,7-153-10364_52261_54896-226898--,00.html " How did Asian carp get here? Bighead and silver carp were imported into the southeastern United States in the 1970s to remove algae and suspended matter out of catfish farm ponds and waste water treatment ponds. While the exact manner of their release into the wild is still debated, it is widely believed that during large flood events in the mid-1990s some ponds overflowed their banks and Asian carp were released into local waterways in the Mississippi River Basin." I am guessing that none has the resources to pay for a problem they created? If it could even be proven that they were responsible?

  21. LOL, no better bait for sheephead either!
  22. I believe Pradco owns a bunch of outfits. http://www.lurenet.com/
  23. I remember luring cougars with Steak and Lobster in my younger days. 120 something pound cat? I want no part of being close to that.
  24. Sparse cover? 3/16ths - 1/4 ounce. Punching thru cover? up to 1 ounce.
  25. The Muskie selection may be due to the area market? There is really not much of a point in stocking items in local area stores where the market is small? I have been to WalMart stores near lakes known for their muskie fishing and found muskie tackle ( limited) , the one by me might carry Power Pro braid, just not a big demand for it in my area. Walmart like the Big Box outdoors stores can offer a larger selection on line than they can possibly carry in a small local area store. They didn't build that Cabela's too close to the BPS store? Market realities? We would probably all like to have the biggest bestist tackle store right next door? They probably understand better that the market might not support it? Pricing? I always found the price of just about everything in Ontario to be a lot higher than here. Either transportation costs or purchasing power? Meaning no disrespect, but it is what it is.
