Blondes are usually a lot easier to replace than a good boat!

I got all my HDMI cables off of ebay, at a bargain basement price, they work ok for me.

Messy weather thats for sure. Anyone seeing the rain yet?
OhioFisherman replied to misfish's topic in General Discussion
This basically, it was in the 50's yesterday and pouring rain, it's 40 out now, and a high of 17 predicted for tomorrow. -
I remember when 25-30 bucks bought you a top end reel and 3 grand bought you a new car.

Cool! Now a thought or few, it seems that there is some debate in Florida about shark fishing from beaches? http://www.trackingsharks.com/win-sharks-delray-beach-restricts-shark-fishing/ https://newsela.com/articles/shark-catches/id/3976/ http://www.floridatoday.com/story/news/local/environment/sharks/2014/10/15/melbourne-beach-weighs-shark-fishing-chumming-ban/17307795/ http://traveltips.usatoday.com/florida-rules-shark-fishing-63019.html Just from my very limited experience there, along some sections of the gulf coast the towns seem to have been set up to get a portion on the tourist dollars, they can change names every mile or so of the shore. Knowing the regulations in the particular area might be very important? I can't recall seeing a sign on the beach letting you know when you had crossed into a different towns jurisdiction. Big fish?

I went to Florida in 2009, Largo near Tampa and the gulf coast. Just west of Largo was Indian Rocks Beach ( like 1 mile from where I stayed), the gulf on one side and some type of inland waterway on the other. Call it your typical tourist trap? Miles of hotels, motels, beaches, motorbike and bike rentals places, gift shops and restaurants. We went out to eat one evening, the seafood place had a deck-dock dining area that was on the inland waterway and overhung the water. One of the main attractions seemed to be watching the servers scrape the food scraps into the water and seeing schools of fish appear to eat them! LOL I have no idea what type of fish they were, some were pretty darn big, those back waters, especially near a restaurant might not be a bad place to start fishing if you go there?

Not to turn this into a Ford-Chevy-Chrysler debate, and also consider it has been almost 30 years since I have owned one. SeaRay and Wellcraft were heavier boats than say a BayLiner of the same size, they rode the water better and seemed to have less issues with quality. BayLiners seemed to be near the bargain basement for bigger boats, two of my brothers owned BayLiners, both had problems, with quality issues and dealer service.

No idea on their smaller boats, but the bigger ones were comparable to a Sea Ray in quality. I went from a 24 foot SeaRay to a 17 foot SmokerCraft, although it did limit the days on Lake Erie because of the weather, it did open up options for fishing inland waters where wind and waves weren't as much of a factor.

When I first started driving tractor trailers some of them had gas engines, at least short haul local pick up and delivery ones, and almost all straight trucks had gas engines. That picture has changed dramatically, even UPS's little brown delivery trucks are diesel powered. Diesel gets better mileage, so you pay more for it?

Whats with the price of pork spare ribs
OhioFisherman replied to mr blizzard's topic in General Discussion
I remember as a kids going with my mom and grandmother to a huge market in Cleveland ( The West Side Market ), it is still there today. A conglomeration of individual sellers and booths, some indoor some outdoor. Wing and rib prices then always seemed to be crazy low, it seemed like they couldn't give them away. Mom and my grandmother never bought any, pay for bone? The rise of sporting events, sports bars and such has changed all that! -

Years ago I took a girlfriend fishing at a local pond, did the picnic lunch and whole bit. i wander off walking around the pond casting and left her on the other side. After a bit she starts calling me so I came back, look what I found! LOL She is sitting on her lawn chair feeding our lunch to a young skunk! 4-5 foot high grass and bushes all over, it's mom couldn't have been too far off. She seemed a bit offended when I told her if it had sprayed you it would have been a long walk home. -

Here stateside our big cattle states have had drought problems, last year (2013) I guess was especially bad. Feed prices as I recall more than doubled and suitable grazing land was in short supply. There were numerous news reports on farmers selling cattle and hogs early to avoid feed costs and shortages, which also lowers the herd population for the future. Even in my area hay and corn prices as feed more than doubled, an acute shortage of it, it was a very dry summer here also. Rustlers? I was in Florida for 5 weeks in 2009, there were a number of reports there of horses being butchered in their fields, they said black market horse meat could go for 40 bucks a pound. -

Fishing a bass tournament at a southern Ohio lake, a cold blustery day in early April, a tough bite day. I was jigging a Heddon Sonar along a rocky ledge thinking it looked like a good spot for smallies. Bang! I get a hit, decent fish I said to my partner, then as I get it near the surface I see it is a 4-5 pound ski, in a hurry I lip it! Bad move! LOL Fishing with a buddy on one of Lake Erie's bays, make a long cast and sit down on my bow seat, a bass grabs it! I set the hook! and as I do the seat snaps off the pole at it's base. Over backwards I go! Lucky I didn't bust my dome on the gunnal, the last thing I saw on my way down was the bass jump and spit the hook. Up in Ontario for a couple of weeks, a Canadian couple was also there with their kids and not catching much, so I offered to take the husband fishing the next day and show him around a bit. Crack of dawn the next day we hit the water, enter a cove and a big sailboat is moored, just minding our own business fishing and we hear a female voice " catching anything" we both turned around and two bare naked ladies are standing on the back of the sailboat! Ah, scenery in Ontario! LOL Then things got ugly! Their bare naked dudes walked out! -
Years ago I read an article in a fishing magazine about the development of fish scents, as I recall it mentioned that research by Berkley indicated pike were partial to mackerel scent. http://www.in-fisherman.com/catfish/cut-mackerel-for-catfish/ http://www.users.totalise.co.uk/~robmurray/pikebaitsa.htm

Scary stuff on Walleye populations

You do have to wonder if the Phosphates are really gone? Or has the source of them simply changed? The water problems in Toledo Ohio this year seem to indicate the same old problem? Just a different source of it? Agricultural runoff is putting them back into the system, just as detergents did in the past? More agriculture to support a growing population and more runoff? It doesn't seem like the land gets a rest to replenish itself naturally, population growth doesn't allow for that, so the use of chemical fertilizers grows? -

LOL! Worlds greatest sports fish, and the guy that caught them moved to PA and I can't remember his name! A.K.A Rock bass! -
Obviously I know nothing about them, well except for the fact that it is a mistake to lip one! LOL It might help to understand why the Georgian Bay and St. Lawrence rivers produce monsters?
