  1. Hmmm... save some money? hire a pro?
  2. Almost all that are seen down here are one lake wonders, it is very rare to see them being trailed to different lakes. I have only seen one on Lake Erie, some guy on a quest we talked with at South Bass Island ( Put in Bay). He claimed to have started in Lake Superior and was headed to Florida, he stopped at South Bass because of high winds and waves. They aren't intended to be speed boats or for rough water? most I have seen probably catch a lot of wind?
  3. At one time they had steam farm tractors, i became very leery of being around any that were still operating after an incident here. http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=92758 One of my son's friend was badly burned, as was his father who also lost an eye.
  4. http://el.erdc.usace.army.mil/ansrp/ANSIS/html/bythotrephes_longimanus_spiny_water_flea_spiny_tailed_water_flea.htm Impacts Negative Compete with many larval fish for food Outcompete native zooplankton populations leading to drastic decline in native populations In high abundances they can catch on fishing line, fish nets, and trawls forming a paste that may alter the success of these items Positive Serves as a food source for many fish species including yellow perch, walleye, white bass, lake herring, and deepwater sculpin
  5. Fish for muskies for 5-6 hours, when you get tired of no hits? Put on a top water bass lure on inappropriate tackle for muskies, they are sure to hit! LOL I always though that area was the most beautiful area of Ontario I had visited, and we went there as a multifamily group at times, just my own families vacation, and a guy trip later in the year ( September ). It's like the land of a million spots to fish? It takes some time to sort thru them and figure out which work better for you at various times of the year. Ladies? The skill level of the ones in my family was pretty low, to keep them occupied and happy catching something often meant a day of live bait fishing.
  6. I would suggest getting a chart of the area before you go, it may give you a better idea of the amount of rocks? I went there for around 25 years and never had a problem, but if I was unsure of an area it was electric motor only for me. It's also been 26 years or so since I have been there, no idea how the current water levels are. Only one time it was rough enough for me to stay put inside the inlet, in the dark in a smaller boat with a way smaller motor, just couldn't be sure where the known rocks were because of dark and waves. We never landed a big ski, and didn't catch a small one, there were some very big ones there, we weren't prepared for them. It's probably more a size place than a quantity place for skis. From the mouth of the inlet back to the Sturgeon is a lot of water to try and cover in a weekend? We couldn't do it all when we went for 2 weeks at a time.
  7. If they don't have them I am thinking that any place that sells trailers, towing equipment (like uhaul) might?
  8. I watched the first one, there are some dangerous drugs out there! http://www.drugwatch.com/tylenol/
  9. It's been a long time since I was up there, things must have really gotten pricey, or perhaps it is the exchange rate that I have kept up with? http://www.walmart.com/ip/Igloo-Quick-and-Cool-150-Quart-Cooler/16437963
  10. I went out on Lake Erie one morning with a friend to do some smallie fishing, an hour or two later the fog rolled in. I doubt we were a half mile off shore, but couldn't see 50 feet. If it hadn't have been for the busy railroad tracks and horns and noise from the trains and traffic we might not have made it back. A compass, cheap protection! I didn't think small boats needed one, that incident changed my view.
  11. Agreed, in part. I also grew up in the swinging 60's, and smoked pot. I was able to put it down or take a break from it anytime I felt like it, same with alcohol for me. When they started random testing here for commercial drivers I also got that message, put it down completely. I saw people and worked with them that couldn't seem to get the message, some failed drug tests, some alcohol. I know a lot more " potheads " that have managed to hold down jobs, and stay alive that alcoholics. Pretty crappy when you are 45-50 and your liver is gone and be sitting home or hospitalized on disability waiting to die or a transplant? Imagine the outrage if the government tells you go fish, but only for carp?
  12. Actually Drifter some states here have, and it seem like more and more have various legislation pending, even Ohio is supposed to have some sort of legislation in progress. http://www.governing.com/gov-data/state-marijuana-laws-map-medical-recreational.html LOL, it looks bad for politicians if they take campaign contributions from drug dealers? But if it's legal? send a check? Then there is also the state competition? They are getting free money? We want a piece of the pie too! Once Ohio saw neighboring states hitting the casino tax jackpot? That sin disappeared!
  13. They must be running out of things to tax here? Pot gives them a new cash cow.
  14. I tend to agree with this, if you don't smoke anything you should be forced to for help?
  15. I always like to see a map-chart before I even hit the water, not just for fishing, but for safety too. Raf, Akrisoner can tell you a lot of the places on the Georgian that may look safe? Might be a bad move? You have a heck of a lot more motor breakers than we do. Maps can give you an idea on places to start looking for fish, good electronics are also a big help. Talking to bait store owners here for the most part was kind of pointless, I don't know how many of them actually had time to fish, or if the information they received was accurate, not many people are willing to share their hot spots? Watching the shoreline and staying alert can help.
  16. I spent a lot of time on Lake Eire in a 17 foot Smokercraft with a 35hp merc, I picked good days for me and my boat to be out there and wasn't afraid to head for shelter if it got bad out. I always picked the ramp closest to the area I would be fishing.
  17. I would not call that a keeper and want no part of catch and release with that! LOL
  18. When you launch the boat? Take a minute or two to inspect the trailer frame, I have seen a couple with some severe cracks in the welds, they are a lot easier to see with the boat off the trailer.
  19. No idea what " trixys " that is, 4 inch zoom lizards were also a great bait for smallies here.
  20. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Jewel_Bait_Sculpin/descpage-JS.html#multiview those worked well on Lake Erie, never used a slammer.
  21. With the Emerald Ash Borer, ash as firewood might become history.
  22. All the ones I saw on Lake Erie seemed to be between 3-5 inches long, but I am sure there had to be bigger ones around Brian. I have no clue, does Simcoe have access to the great lakes for fish to migrate? Or were those from carelessness with a bait bucket?
  23. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Round_goby " Round gobies range in length from 4 to 10 inches (maximum of 9.7 inches (24.6 cm), and in weight from 0.176 ounces to 2.816 ounces, increasing as they age. Male round gobies are larger than females. " It's been 10 years or so since I fished, but never saw one that big, is that from Simcoe? Looks like a decent meal for a walleye or steelhead.
  24. I burn hardwoods in my woodburner and use softwoods like pine, willow, cottonwood for bonfires. Although most of the wood I burn is short cut slab wood, there are always thinner pieces in the mix to use to get the fire going quickly.
  25. Most of our lakes here receive a lot of fishing pressure, especially for bass. On some a bass weighing 4 pounds was almost a lock on big bass for a tournament on others a 5 pound bass wasn't. Some lakes were numbers lakes, on others every bite counted a lot more. I fished a pond around eight acres in size, it had very limited access to it for fishing. It was basically futile to go there and fish with lures and expect to catch a bass, day or night. Use a 6-8 inch chub or golden shiner? You might only get one bite a day, but that fish was usually 20 inches plus. A couple - few years ago one of my friends show me an article that was written by a well known bass fisherman from this general area for a magazine about smallies on Lake Erie. It was his conclusion that people didn't start catching numbers of big smallies on Lake Erie until the late 1980's , just maybe it wasn't advertised as much?
