  1. I always use holders when trolling big baits for musky, Will. When we troll small baits for pickeral in the spring though, I prefer holding the rod.
  2. Ranger, that sonic barrier near Canal may help stop the spread of pike from the western Kawarthas, but have you heard of anything in the east ?? I did hear of one down around Hasting to stop the gobies from moving north, but I think that one is fairly recent though. I spose it's only a matter of time till the snot rockets make their way north
  3. Matt, there's plenty of stories about tigers in the Kawarthas, but in over 50 years of fishing there I've never come across one myself yet, or even a pike for that matter, infact I don't even know anybody who's caught one. I never could understand though, why the pike haven't migrated up the Trent and into the eastern Kawartha Lakes. The Trent system is a direct hiway up from Lake O, and the canal has been open for 100 years, so you'd think in all that time a few pike would find there way. But let's hope they never do.
  4. Not true dsn, there's several good shops around that will tell you EXACTLY what you need to know, and if they don't have it, they'll tell you. You just need to know who your dealing with.
  5. You can just keep it up there too Pam, I'm still in shorts and sandals down here in the banana belt
  6. Another great day on the water for you Mike, I always look forward to your river reports.
  7. There's a tackle store in Lakefield that used to sell minnows, but I think they've changed hands now, and the store is revamped, but it may worth a look. Their on the north side of the main road as you come into town, just west of the bridge.
  8. G'day folks Ole Marv and I just got back in from our daily hike in the woods and it's a gorgeous morning out there, about 8c with clear skies and no wind. I luv this time of year and will swap 8c for 30c anyday Hope everyone has a wonderful day, I know I will !!
  9. Wonderful news Mark & a BIG welcome to Jeffrey Congratulations to your entire family !!
  10. Purty fish Dax, and one of my favorite lakes too, specially in the fall.
  11. Sorry to hear the deal fell thru jedi, sounds like you were really pumped for that boat, but you'll probably find something even better down the road somwhere's. Currious though, what are you lookin for, that's not popular in Canada ??
  12. Nasty pictures TJ, but a good heads up for anyone travelling. Seems like there's more & more critters on the road every year, specially just before sunrise. This past August heading up to Lakair there was a deer on the side of hwy 35, so close to the asphalt that I thought I was gonna hit him with my sideview mirror. Last year it was a huge blackbear that wandered out and stopped not 5' from my truck as I was going past Coming back from Ottawa last July we had another bear run across right in front of us near Perth.
  13. Congrats on the musky, weeds, and good to hear you did everything you could to get her back in the water fast. Get yerself a good pair of bolt cutters and cut those treble points off, rather that trying to jerk them back out. Hooks are about the cheapest thing in your tackle box and only take seconds to replace. I cut the hooks all the time, unless they can come out very easily without doing any more damage to the fish. I've probably got 100 spare trebles in varying sizes in the boat. Changing the trebles to single hooks won't affect the action of your bait at all though, infact sometimes the single hooks seem to grab better anyways, and if your working your bait thru the weeds, it's the best way to go .
  14. Well, I'm a GTA'er and I never helped him in last time, and I'll be doin my best to get rid of him tonight.....don't like my chances though, but i'll do my part anyhoo
  15. Beautiful Terry !!
  16. Thanks Moose, reading your tales is always an excellent way to start my day. What a wonderful life you live !!......but I spose you already know that
  17. I remember that day and those pictures very well Gerritt, and I also remember the outpouring of love & support from the members of this board in the days that followed. There is now, and always has been, a wonderful group of people that make up OFC.
  18. Can't say 100% that it'll be open, but my guess would be yes. It's only a coin operated box that keeps the gate closed and is totally seperate from the lock system as far as I know
  19. A huge downpour just went thru here about 30 minutes ago. Good for the streams I spose, but bad for me.....I just found out my eavestroughs need cleaning. Oh well, I guess now I know what I'm doin this afternoon.
  20. Their an excellent bait Rich, specially the larger 9" weighted version, and definetely good for fall and the cooler water when the fish are slowing down. I add extra weights to even the weighted ones and it makes them nearly neutral buoyant when sitting still, and they then become almost irresistible to a hungry musky lookin for some dinner. Let them sit for a minute, then give em a twitch and hang on
  21. Sounds like you've become a definate convert Jamie Do we have any pictures ??
  22. Thanks Mike, that was a great read !! You've posted about some great trips again this year , and I've enjoyed them all, and will be looking forward to next years installments.
  23. Absolutely outstanding Wayne !! You waited a long time for this trip and it was certainly worth it. Congratulations to both you & Dano on each getting your 1st ever muskies, and then the pair of youz joining the 50" club on your 1st attempt. Kudos to you too Marc, for doing what you do so well, you've put alot of smiles on the faces of alot of anglers.
  24. Thanks Dan, your advice is always appreciated. I take my pictures exactly the way you described, and as I said previously, 99% turn out good, so perhaps I'm just not always setting the focus properly before each shot.
  25. I'm outta here in an hour and heading to the trailer, and won't be home till Monday, but wanted to wish everybody a Happy Thanksgiving, and hope you all have a great & safe weekend. Oh ya, and catch a biggun too
