I've been using Power Pro on all my rods for 6 or 7 years now and have never had it break. I couldn't come up with a reason to try anything else.

A question for people who fish with trolling motor.
lew replied to Steelcat's topic in General Discussion
I had a similar experience where I was about 50' off shore casting to a rock when 3 guys in a boat passed inside. One actually asked how my fishing was going and I said "Thanks for asking, my day was going great until you just drove over my line" I honestly don't think they even had a clue what they did and just motored along on their merry way. As mentioned above, moron is a pretty good description. -
Taking my 4 yr old lil gal fishing puts me in the hospital

I woke up one morning about a month ago with a dime sized welt on my arm and dead center was what I assumed was a bite mark. Even now though I still have the welt and the "bite mark" is still visible. I figured it was maybe a spider bite but who knows, perhaps it was an ant Good to hear your feeling better Phil, that must been scary. -
Lots of REALLY nice fish in that story, well done boyz !!

Sounds like fun times Joey and your definetely getting the hang of the new camera. Was the eagle picture taken over at Aikenheads where we saw him a couple years ago ?? He was there again last month. We're heading back up again in 2 weeks but staying at Memquisit this time and I was hoping the water levels had come up since last month but no such luck from your report.

The boats coming along great Brian and I was hoping you were taking pictures of the job. It's good to see the progress in action. Your putting alot of effort into it but it'll be awesome when your done. I always liked the lay-out of that boat and now it'll be even better. As for the motor not peeing it could be as simple as a little spider nest in the discharge tube. Run the motor with the muffs on again and push a small stiff wire into the tube and if there's anything there it'll break it free. Exact same thing happened on my new Yamaha the 1st time I put it in the lake. Takes about 5 seconds to fix it up. And congrats on the fish too, a good way to start off with the re-vamped boat.

Hope the docs figure out what caused it so you can be ready for it the next time Phil. Like you, I'm not alergic to anything that I know of either so something like that would really give you a scare for sure. -
Great story Kyle !! Congrats to your boys on a great day and good luck to your wife in todays derby.

You'll really enjoy your time at Lakair, it's a gorgeous spot and Kevin & Leslie are great people. His rental boats are nice, 18' cedarstrips with 15 HP Yammies. It's a big area and if you want to explore you'll be able to cover alot of ground in the boat, or if you want to stay close-by, which is also good fishing, the kayak would also work well for you. Have a great trip !!

It's been alot of years since I fished Rice Lake but there used to be a decent ramp in Bewdely at the extreme west end of the lake. I imagine it's still there ??

Wow, that un-expected $8000 make for a pretty expensive fish'n trip Steve, hopefully the insurance company will cover the cost of the 4 new props too.
-
That's brutal Steve, and also VERY $$$$

After a few years in the Navy I joined the Fire Department in 1968 and spent the next 32 years driving fire trucks thru the insane traffic in Toronto. I've been retired for the past 10 years and we now live on a quiet dirt road and I haven't heard a siren in months -
I'm heading back to Nipissing in 2 weeks Bruce but may be able to get up your way before that, infact it sounds good. I lost my phone book in the move so could you PM me your number please.
-
Hiya Tony, really good to hear from you, it's been a long time. Yeah, it'd be great to hook up with you for a day on the water and if your gonna be at Lakair next June we'll set it up for sure. Retirement is fantastic, what can I say ?? Only trouble is I'm busier now than when I was actually working for a living Lookin forward to seeing you, Marty & Dawson next year !!

I agree Nancy, several members report terrible service at this camp yet the owner totally ignores them and continues as if nothing was said.

Questions for the Musky Guys - Looking at buying my first combo
lew replied to BillsTheBassMan's topic in General Discussion
It probably IS a bargain Pete and I doubt anyone would dispute that, it's just that Ryan was asking for opinions on the combo and a few of us gave our honest thoughts on it. I don't profess to be an expert on fishing gear but after 35 years of musky fishing I have a pretty good idea of what's a good set-up and what may be a better choice. I was just trying to offer some thoughts and help him with his question. -
Dan, I remember an episode on 60 Minutes a couple years back where they talked about this exact same thing. It talked about big name tire stores selling new tires that were infact often 7 or more years old. I think they said tires should be replaced after a maximum of 7 years but I may be wrong on that number.

Questions for the Musky Guys - Looking at buying my first combo
lew replied to BillsTheBassMan's topic in General Discussion
Ryan, the Shimano Compre is an excellent musky rod and not overly expensive. It may be worth your while to have a look at them. I sold off all my St. Croix's and replaced them with Compres. I also use Calcutta CT's & TE's and their as good as they come. The TE is pretty spendy at close to $400 but the CT's are cheaper but still a great reel. I don't think they make the CT anymore but whatever they replaced it with would be a good choice. Not trying to spend your $$$$ for you, but just offering what in my humble opinion would be a couple decent choices for you. And once you buy them, they'll give you many many years of excellent service.......guaranteed !! -
Questions for the Musky Guys - Looking at buying my first combo
lew replied to BillsTheBassMan's topic in General Discussion
I've always been a Shimano fan but have tried a few Abu's over the years. I wanted a hi-speed reel for burning bucktails over the weedbeds and picked up a C-4 a few years back. It burned itself out after one season and went in the garbage can. I wanted a relatively inexpensive back-up reel for guests to use and bought a C-5. It was good for the 1st year then started to go down hill and eventually gave up the ghost. Aikmens wanted $170 to fix it and it then also went in the garbage can. I use alot of large jerkbaits and needed something to take up the line fast so I bought an Abu Big Game. It lasted for 2 seasons before exploding on a cast and then became my 3rd Abu in the garbage can in about the same number of years. My bud bought a Fenwick musky rod that snapped on a cast after only a few weeks. Fenwick replaced it with another one and that one snapped on a hookset the 1st time he ever fished with it. Nuthin but junk...... -
I've got a big boat Phil, bring all the fish'n poles you want and we'll have a blast as always. Check your PM's and we'll set it up.

Just my dimes worth Ryan, but if your gonna be fishing for muskies I'd stay away from both the Abu and the Fenwick. The Fenwicks are well known for breaking farrrrr too often for no apparent reason and the Abu quality has gone way down hill in recent years. Do yourself a favour and spend some extra $$$$ and get a quality set-up. If your only gonna be fishing for muskies the odd time you may be OK with that rig but if your looking to do it more seriously it could be a poor choice. Again, just my opinion. -
Actually Phil, I'm getting a bit tired of working around here everyday, so c'mon up and we'll forget about the stumps and just go fish'n
