  1. If the OWNER of a tackle shop used this page to advertise his products it would be considered SPAM and is against the rules of the forum, but when a member informs us that Joe Schmucks Tackle Store is having a sale, or whatever, that's a whole nuther thing and is just an FYI for the rest of us and is perfectly with-in the rules. It's something that we've done around here for many years and is normally helpful to the members who are looking to save a few $$$$. One of the problems we have around here is too many folks deciding on their own what's right and what's wrong with a post and then taking it on themselves to tell others what to do. If someone thinks there's a problem with a post, inform the moderators thru the appropriate channels and let them deal with it the way they want.
  2. Good to see everyone got there safely. I'll be arriving 2 weeks from today, hows the water levels at the boat ramp & docks ??
  3. It's pretty darned sad when a member takes the time to tell us about a sale on fishing gear and somebody jumps on him for doing it. I wonder where this board is going sometimes. Goodonya for passing on the info ColdH20guy, I'm not in the area to take advantage of the sale, but I'm sure others will appreciate your efforts.
  4. I've been a very early riser my whole life and always get up between 2 & 4 AM. I used to do alot of serious biking and would leave my home about 3:00 AM, 12 months a year, and ride 20-40 miles before sunrise. I love driving in the early morning darkness and when I'm heading out on a long distance fishing trip I sometimes leave home at 2:00AM There's not many things nicer than being the only boat on the lake when the sun breaks over the horizon either.
  5. Your making a good choice....think 4000 series TE and you'll be a very happy man !!
  6. If your lookin for a musky rod, sensitivity is the last thing you need to worry about.
  7. C'mom guys, cormorants hafta eat too ya know
  8. I've been using Power Pro on all my rods for quite a few years now and have never found a reason to switch to anything else. It's never failed me or caused any problems.
  9. There's your answer EC1 !!
  10. I'd return the Ugly Stick, it's far too short, and go with something 7'6" or longer. I'd suggest a Shimano Compre rod for muskies, but that's just me. I'd also suggest you pair it up with a Calcutta reel, more $$$$ but definetely worth the extra expense. Just my thoughts.
  11. Terrible news about your friend Dan. My wifes mother also passed away 2 days ago.
  12. I remember that post Nancy and it's good to see it finally happened, even though it took 3 years to bring it all together You were certainly fishing in good company and congrats on your 1st ever carp !!
  13. Nice fish Instructor, congrats on your 1st musky.
  14. What's on your mind?

  15. You do amazing work Jack, I always enjoy looking at your carvings !!
  16. You must know a few old time trappers up your way TJ with some antique gear laying around ?? Replace that motor with a brand new shiny one , then hang it in plain view and lay a couple old bear traps around the area with a few leaves scattered over top to conceal them. Betcha those stinkin thieves won't come back again after stepping into one of those things.
  17. Sad news Fisherman, please accept my condolances.
  18. Great looking set-up Steve, that'll work good for you !! You'll like those safety wires for your rods too, they make for some pretty cheap insurance.
  19. Hey Sam, good mornin to you, or in your case, good evening. WOW, your sure living a different life than you were a couple years back up here but it sounds like your really enjoying yourself !! Oil rigs, sharks & sea lions....that's a long ways from Quinte My son helped build the big Hybernia oil rig in Newfoundland years ago and always said it was a job he was proud to work on. Those oil rig workers have a tough job and it's terrible what's happening in the gulf so hopefully you can help keep yours safe. Gimme a call when you get home Sam, maybe we can go out for a musky or 2. Not exactly what you've been used to lately, but still lotsa fun Good hearing from you again Sam and don't be a stranger !!
  20. Congratulations to you & your bride Connie and all the best to the pair of you in the next 52 !! This coming October will be 44 wonderful years for Diane and I
  21. I always enjoy the posts when someone buys a new boat !! Congrats on the new ride, that's a real beaut and should serve you well for a long time. My bro-in-law has had a Sylvan for many years and has always been very happy with it.
  22. Absolutely fantastic fishing tale !!!! What an amazing trip !!
  23. Very sad news indeed Stoty and sorry for your loss, Moms are real special. Condolances from my family to yours.
  24. Interesting that this thread popped back to the surface this morning as I just had my new stove installed yesterday, along with delivery the 1st of 3 cords of hardwood that I ordered. Ended up going with Jer's wood guy and got it for $260 per cord. As mentioned previously in this thread, the house is heated with oil, plus I have a nice fireplace in the livingroom and now the new stove has gone downstairs in the family room. Hate to say it, but I'm almost lookind forward to some cold weather to try it out.....well, maybe not
  25. Thanks for posting those stories and pictures Bruce, it made for a very interesting morning reading thru it all. I never served on the Bonnie but we spend alot of time sailing with her on a couple different trips. Certainly nothing in comparison to the size of the British or American carriers but she served her purpose well in the Canadian Navy. Here's a couple rather poor shots I took of Bonnie back in the 60's but I honestly can't remember where the heck it was. In the one picture you can make out the Tracker aircraft on the flight deck. I always enjoyed cruising along side her and watching the aircraft land and take-off from that small deck. Takes a special kind of talent and guts from the guys who do that kinda work. Most of the men in my family have served in different branches of the Armed Forces in both peacetime & war going all the way back to my Grandfather in WW1, and with this being the 100th anniversary of the Canadian Navy, I'm proud of the fact that we served in the Navy too. I did most of my time on the Annapolis in the mid 60's My brother did his time on Columbia, also in the mid 60's And my Dad served with honor for 5 years during WW2 after leaving the farm in Saskatchewan at 18 years old to fight for his country. He was on a few different ships but his favorite was the Corvette Kitchener when they escorted to convoys to Europe and North Africa Thanks again for posting your story Bruce, the Canadian Military never gets the publicity like the Brits or Americans, but Canadians can be as proud of those that protect us as any country on the planet. And congrats to the Canadian Navy for 100 years of great service !! Infact, many years ago I knew a man who was in the very 1st class of Navy recruits when the RCN was formed 100 years ago.
