  1. Great prizes and a good cause but the values are inflated to the max.. I buy tickets but have never won anything..
  2. Seems these things have become more about making money than anything. I know a guy who owns a food truck and the food vendor prices are as much as $9000 for a 4 day outdoor event. I imagine it could be even higher for an indoor event.. throw in wages and health inspection costs and you have to sell a lot to make any profit..
  3. Unfortunately these shows have become unaffordable for vendors so many no longer attend. There used to be a lot of good deals but that won't cover the cost of the booth. The cannabis product booth was interesting..lol
  4. I love the fact that I can run in 2WD, AWD or 4 high.. I pretty much only need the AWD for most snow conditions and unless you take it to the extreme the AWD should be fine..
  5. Bring a small rock to smash the shell.. Yeah it gets a little ugly..
  6. Canadian tire has both food saver and seal a meal bags with seal a meal almost half the price.. They seem to work fine with my food saver..
  7. I go to the grocery store to get fresh live clams. Use a good weight to get your bait to the bottom and the flounder will find it..
  8. I will be there in August as well.. Usually when I go to Nova Scotia I fish off the wharf for flounder. I am bringing my fishing rod with me so I am also interested in places to fish at that time of year..
  9. Very cool.. I need to find a new crappie spot...
  10. Gilford has a wonderful new parking lot for $5 an hour to a maximum of $25.. Minnows are $10 a scoop.. Add gas and it's an expensive day..
  11. I have plenty of channels and unlimited data for less than $200... What I don't have is any easy access to a lake for fishing... I would trade the city conviences in a heartbeat if I could..
  12. Unfortunately lots of the old guys are gone.. I tell you, we could use some of them now to straighten out the new generation!. Those guys kept the place going didn't they.. Someone to make good coffee as well.. Not that I drink espresso but I always loved the smell!
  13. Simon is right about the privacy issue with drones.. People worry about them but they really should worry about internet security. Amazon echo or Google home in a kids bedroom?? THAT is nuts!!.... If people followed basic rules and common courtesy then we wouldn't need all these laws..
  14. The loss of a loved one is really tough the first year without them. Too many of my friends have lost family members this year. I have a friend who died in an Atv crash and she left a 5 year old daughter and an old friend lost her 14 year old to suicide recently.. I was scheduled to work on the 24th and 25th nights but I was fortunate enough to have the seniority to take vacation days.. I missed the chance to make the big bucks on Christmas day but money means nothing if you miss too many of them with your loved ones..

Sail has 20% off all fishing and hunting gear with exceptions on a few things of course.. Excellent prices on ice fishing items..

I was at Sail recently.. . Buckshot spoons I like were 5.50 plus 20 % off.. Sails 5.50 regular price was less than the sale price at Cabela's.. Bass pro isn't much better.. They are 8 something at Walmart and almost 10 bucks at Canadian Tire..
  17. I had an 07 Colorado.. Most reliable truck I have ever owned and I still see it driving around town..
  18. There's a chocolate toxicity chart online and it even lists the type. White is not toxic while dark 70% can be severe. A 50 pound dog would have to eat 2 pounds of dark for it to be severe.. Milk chocolate is not high on the list for toxicity..
  19. Years ago there was a truck crash on Hwy 11 involving a load of chocolate. The locals loaded up on the stuff and a local bear guide also grabbed a few hundred pounds. His dog got into the shed where it was stored and ended up dying after eating a bunch of it..
  20. I love hunting but finding a spot is tough when you live near a major metropolitan area...
  21. I feel for the workers at these plants. An assembly line is certainly not a fun place to earn a living. I work with a girl that quit Toyota..the money was good but the beating the body and mind takes wasn't worth it to her, especially after she turned 40..
  22. Birds clue in pretty quickly when it comes to hunters. The first time they are shot at it sticks in their mind. We may have to get creative.. My buddy shoots European house sparrows at his feeder so he has very few around but it doesn't affect the other birds because they know that they aren't the target..
  23. 83 employees died in the first world war and 3 in Korea.. My uncle served in the Navy in the 70s and 80s as a cook. I can only imagine being in the kitchen with the ship pitching and rolling.... He is now living his final days in a hospital bed at home with a breathing tube. Asbestos, smoking and cooking in a confined space took its toll.. It's a reminder of how many die away from the battlefield..
  24. We have a cenotaph and memorial at Stelco to honour the employees who fought.. I don't know how many served in WW1 but we had 2097 in the second world war with 84 dead. At that time in history women didn't work in factories but they filled in for the men who were off fighting and when they returned the women were let go. The company produced steel for millions of shells in the first world war and enough steel for thousands of ships and tanks in the second.
  25. I had an off-grid cottage for 5 years and I enjoyed the spring show but we sold it and never went back.. It seemed to cater to a market that was way above our budget..
