I used to use those exact same combos. Once bought one for a girlfriend as part of a birthday gift (that did not go over well by the way, I was young and not very wise in the way of wimmin). They were an entry level package which I used for many years. Never had a problem with them, they're a good find because you can never have too many rods and reels! Definitely change the line though, I bet that line is just ready to jump off that spool.

...then again, I did feel abused financially when I took it in for a tune-up. Cheap on gas, pricey in the shop

ouch! considering I can run 2 full days on $30 in gas on my 4 stroke I'm not really sure what they're talking about...my former 2 stroke went through more than double

I love the look of those honda's...don't have a clue if they're any good, but man do I love the look

we've been out all day..house is down to 18. I'm hoping a bit of cooking and maybe a bit of running the dryer is good enough to get us back to 20...not doing the furnace yet

haha that's the reason I posted the question in the first place...I've heard so many different ideas. Anyways, I looked after the 9.9 2 stroke yesterday. At Cdn. Tire I see they had ethanol treatment stabil as well so I put some of that through it plus the usual stabilizer. Fogged it, bought some new seals and changed the lower unit oil. Should be good to go! The 50hp will be in use till musky season closes, and since I use the high octane shell in that one I have one less thing (ethanol) to think about. I like the idea of jacking up the trailer. I've never done it before, but I'm going to give that a shot this year! Thanks for all the input

so does the stabilizer negate the effect of the ethanol? I always fog the 2 stroke but I've never fogged my 4 stroke, everything seems to be enclosed when I take the cover off, can't figure out where to spray it! The 4 stroke I usually let the pro's deal with it.

I've got 2 outboards - a 2006 9.9 mercury 2 stroke and a 2001 50 Johnson 4 stroke. I've heard conflicting information regarding winterizing. Some say leave fuel in the lines (with stabilizer) to prevent drying/corrosion, others say drain all fuel out due to the damage ethanol will do. Is there a difference between how to winterize the 2 stroke versus the 4. In my 4 I actually use high octane from shell (no ethanol??)so does that maybe make a difference? Thoughts?
