  1. Started with perch last year, but prior to that I only ice fished for pike. I like those cheap orange tip up thingees that are like $9. Once the flag is tripped, it free spools to let fish run. Plus spool is submerged so you don't have to worry about hole freezing over. I use 10lb test, don't forget the leader. Big honkin sucker hooked lightly through the back, no weight, hello mr pike. Love seeing that orange flag waving in the wind at you
  2. Houston we have a winner...good start, tank till they're last place or close to it, make a run in the last month or so to make it interesting, don't make the playoffs but get a worse draft position due to late season rally. This has been a common trend the last decade (except when they didn't own a draft pick they did not make the run to ruin said draft position). HOWEVER, I think this depressing cycle may be over. They will definitely hit the skids at some point, but they might just make the play-offs this time
  3. apparently for old style batteries this concrete floor thing was true but not any longer
  4. mmmm now there's some good eatin
  5. I leave all mine out in the garage, just charge em up once in a while. I don't know enough about batteries to think that would be unsafe
  6. I have been finding that the past month and a half. Most of our fish right at noon'ish
  7. ...could mid season have started last night?
  8. Gotta love a kid who doesn't want a picture of a 30! She knows there are better ones ahead
  9. nice looking fish! Can't believe there was a skim of ice already. I'm hoping to get out once or twice more myself
  10. for years I fished like DanC...auger, spool of line/leaders/hooks, scooper and some bait. The odd fire on the ice. Simple as that and minimal investment. Its only been the last year I've added some comforts...portable hut, heater. Fishing can definitely be enjoyable when you're roughing it....but now I'm old and want to stay warm
  11. hard to rebuild without draft picks. At least Phil the Thrill is showing glimpses of why they gave up a huge price to get him. Not his fault Burke built a crap team and thought he had a contender
  12. Prices have always been good. The issues I always had when I lived down that way was a couple of the guys in the Mississ store were pretty much morons. I once stood at the counter for 5 minutes while 2 guys made idle chitchat with each other...until I lost it on them. Do you know how long 5 minutes is when you're the only one at the counter and the staff are basically ignoring you? Felt like an hour my blood pressure was on the rise
  13. holy smokes...they MIGHT make the playoffs. Pretty sure they were in first place for a while last season as well...but this time it might be somewhat real. I was very happy to see Scrivens in net. Gustaffsaon is not even an adequate back-up. Leafs have been winning, but in spite of Gustaffsson, not because of him. This other guy tonight played far better than "the monster". Time to cut the losses on that guy and move on, he is not a kid
  14. we were 4.5 mph last week-end and got a few - 20 feet of water
  15. never been up that way, but had a buddy that used Snowfari a couple of years ago and they said it was horrible. So close to shore they wondered if they were still over ashphalt instead of water. All they caught were mudpuppies
  16. ...Cliff Claven to the rescue! Gotta love OFC, no matter how obscure the topic, someone around here will have knowledge of it.
  17. great for them. I couldn't care less that they are great drivers and have great cars. Its not them I'm concerned about. How about the mother who has 3 kids in the car? Does a quick check to see nobody beside her to change lanes. Is she trained to expect somebody is about to pass her going twice her speed? What looks like a clear lane to turn into as you travel 55 mph is very suddenly occupied by an idiot. You want to go 120 mph? Buy some time at a track. Its hard to believe you are trying to justify this behaviour.
  18. ...hmmm can't say I agree with that. If I shoot a gun through a loaded mall and don't hit anyone there's no foul? This guy's car was a loaded gun, just because he didn't kill anyone doesn't mean he did nothing wrong. 120 mph is a stupid speed to be driving and endangers everyone around you
  19. I've seen it happen as I'm working a weedline...guys pull up and start fishing 100 - 200 feet ahead. Fortunately it is very rare, happens once in a blue moon so I just ignore and after a few minutes change tactics or location
  20. Nope. Where I go the fish (perch) are so thick it doesn't matter if I'm 100 feet this way or that way. Drill a hole, catch like mad until I'm bored and the fingers are numb, go home.
  21. missed that one, but heard Cole bumble through the Leaf game
  22. wow thats a beauty pike
  23. other than the evolution stuff pretty hard to argue with a lot of that. Its funny because its true
  24. wow that's power
  25. there's another good point - auto locking doors. What's more likely, that you will get car-jacked or get in an accident and possibly need help? What a dumb feature (if intrusion is the reason). If you live in Detroit, Washington or Miami - lock your doors. For the rest of us I'd prefer it stay unlocked in case I need help!
