First day out on Sturgeon Lake for the season
Sinker replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
You know Cliff, if you didn't tell everybody about it, there would be less of a crowd No disrespect, but if your going to complain about the crowds on your lake, you might want to keep your lips sealed......just sayin, and I mean no harm saying that!!! S. -
I've never jacked my trailer off the ground. It doesn't sit long enough. I've had mine out at least once every month so far this year, and from here on out it will be at least twice a week S.

Ya, 36 mph would be pushing it. Maybe on a calm day, with just the driver, and an empty fuel tank with the wind at your back, going downhill. It would run 30 no problem though, I would think. Its a nice boat, a buddy of mine has one just like it with a 90 Mariner. It fishes real nice too. If you can get that for $5G, your going real good. S.

Sinker replied to ch312's topic in General Discussion
Just bring the bill of sale with you, and service canada will do the rest. have a look here for more info: http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/marinesafety/debs-obs-paperwork-paperwork_boat_licence-3211.htm The big question is, what are you getting? S. -
HELP! selling a boat thats in someone elses name?
Sinker replied to ch312's topic in General Discussion
You just have to re-register the boat in your name. No big deal. Go in to service ontario with your bill of sale, and get the paperwork. Not much to it. S. -
Looking for Krocodile, chartreuse on chartreuse with silver tape!!!!
Sinker replied to Burtess's topic in General Discussion
I have an assortment of those spoons as well. I use them for jigging eyes on quinte hardwater. They work great. I wouldn't sell them though, not even for $25 each! They still make them, so don't give up yet!! S. -
Um....ya....your not going to get much for $3G. I pull my 16 tiller with a subaru forester XT. No problem. S.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that part! Option A: A pack of 20 snaps.....1.99 A pack of 100 sivels...3.99 Option B: A pack of 5 snap swivels....6.99..... Way cheaper, and more effective with option A. S.

How important is water temperature for fishing
Sinker replied to Skipper D's topic in General Discussion
I've been out perching twice on simcoe already, and caught all my fish in less than 8fow. Shallow is the key. The middle of the day is usually best, when things are at their warmest. Now if you want to target cold water fish, in the middle of summer, you need to find what depth their preferred temperature is at, because that is where they are going to be. S. -
Nice slay of gills! They are tanks in there, eh? Ya can't beat a good fry of spring sunnies!! They are worth the effort to fillet. They are very similar to a crappie. S.

How important is water temperature for fishing
Sinker replied to Skipper D's topic in General Discussion
This time of year, when the water is warming, fish will seek out the warmest sections of the lakes. The warmer water draws in the minnows, and the fish follow them. Look for shallow water, with a dark, muddy bottom. I've found water from 38-58 degrees in the last week. Guess where the fish were Water temp is very important for any type of fish. S. -
I use snaps, and I use inline swivels, but the only time I use snap-swivels is for great lakes trolling. I hate them, and I guarantee you will catch more fish without those ugly things on your line. I use just a snap for jigging spoons, or crankbaits. Pretty much everything else is tied direct, unless I'm using a heavy leader for musky. Try using an inline swivel to tie your leader from braid, then a snap on the fluoro/mono end for clipping on your lure. In some cases it will improve the action of your baits. Make sure when you add the swivel between braid/fluoro you don't make it too long. There is nothing worse for your rod tip than casting an inline swivel thru it all day long. It will crack the tip eye for sure, over time. S.

Terry pretty much has it. A steelhead is a migratory rainbow. Whether they migrate from salt water, to freshwater, or freshwater to freshwater doesn't really matter. Rainbows are what I call land-locked. They are all 'bows to me, although the inland fish taste a lot better, and they're usually put and take, so bonking a few isn't hurting anything! S.

Can't help ya if we don't know the name of the lake. I know the area fairly well, but I go in there off #35, not off 118. More the northern end of all that land in there. PM me if you want.... S.

Have you talked to the guys at Hastings Marine? Make sure you do before you pull the trigger. I would call them with your quote from Bay City, and see if they can do better. I bet they can. A buddy of mine is in the market for a new lund as well, and after searching around, he found his best price at Hastings. I know plenty of people with nothing but good things to say about them, and they always seem to have a screaming deal on Lunds, and Yammy outboards. Does that quote above include any electronics? By the time you add those up, your around $3 grand minimum....for anything decent anyways. I thought the original boat you posted was a fair price to be honest. I wish I had the cake to spend on a boat right now, because that is what I'd be looking for, only in a tiller. Your better off to get everything in one package, and pay for it monthly, than you are to purchase your electronics your self, and install them. At least if it all comes factory rigged, you get the warranty with it as well. Good luck on your search, and let us know how ya make out! S.

I also stayed down there, at the Melia, and fished from a bike off the bridges. We had lots of fun doing that. Some neat fish to be caught for sure! Bring a med heavy spin, lots of egg weights of varying sizes and LOTS of hooks in all sizes. We got our bait from the kitchen staff as well. We gave most of our fish to the locals. They seemed to really appreciate it, and were very helpful. I can't wait to go back. Had a blast down there! EDIT: Best time is when the tides change S.

Helpful hint to hooking up to your trailers .
Sinker replied to Skipper D's topic in General Discussion
Are there really people out there that can't back up to their trailers?? I used to have a 12" block of 2x4 I kept in my boat. Every time i would un hook the boat, i would stick the 2x4 behind my back wheel. Next time I backed up, I'd hit the 2x4 before I hit my bumper. Works great till someone moves my block of wood! lol Its not hard to center up the trailer, but knowing when to stop before you hit the bumper is the trick!! S. -
Oh, i meant to add...that Alaskan is SICK! All its missing is a TILLER!! S.

Your wife doesn't drive a Tundra?? My boat suits me fine. Its ugly, well used and abused, runs like a top, and doesn't leak a drop. Good enough for me! S.

I use the improved clinch for EVERYTHING. Braid, mono, fluoro....joining leaders....never fails me. One thing I do though, is melt the tag end off. It leaves a little melted nub on the end of the braid, that won't slip thru IF the knot slips. I've never had a problem. S.

I caught enough crappies for a fry tonight, but they're still not going at full force yet. Its better every day though, so maybe tomorrow will be the day? I have 12 filleted and in the fridge for dinner tomorrow night. Mission accomplished S.

You shoulda checked your bearings in the fall. They will rust if there is any water in them over the winter, then they will fail for sure. Always do this maintenance in the fall, so they don't sit for a long period with no maintenance. S.

Head down wolf lake rd to the end. There is a ramp into both sides of the dam there. Good smallies in either lake there too. S.
