  1. How much open water is up around nogies? The small launch there might be open, no? I just put my ice gear away, now going to get the boat ready. I was already out in it once in Feb, now I gotta get her out in march, so I can claim the fame of all 12 months in the water S.
  2. I don't hold grudges, so its all good. I just like to razz you up a little, just for old times sakes. The cormorants should be returning on thier spring migration soon, so in due time we can have a great argument once again haha. Its all good! S.
  3. Oddly enough, I have to agree with Dr. S on this one. Those guys should not have been out on that ice, with strong offshore winds. They are all lucky to be alive. The guy who has been rescued 3 times is just an idiot, clearly. You can't mess with mother nature. She has no mercy. If you get in her way, your a goner! However, I don't agree that they should be charged. They took a risk, and it went bad real fast. Hopefully the rest of them learn thier lesson. The 3 time rescue guy will pay the price one of these days, and I will have no sympathy for him at all. If you can't learn from your mistakes, you will never learn at all. Glad everyone made it to shore safe. It could have been a lot worse. S.
  4. There used to be a member of this board who was allergic to cork. Her options for rods was limited to foam only. S.
  5. :clapping: S.
  6. I find the split ring makes for a better hook up, and action, if your using a plastic on the single hook. I hate putting them on, though!!! S.
  7. I find some of the newer foam handles hold up in rod holders better than cork does over time. My trolling rods are foam, the rest are all cork. S.
  8. I know if a few other members made that post it would lock down a thread! nice car jose....can't wait to see the complete build! S.
  9. I don't do Algonquin anymore, but I would never miss my spring troutin' trips! S.
  10. You guys are looking for an open boat launch, and I was driving on the lake today Crazy season this has been. S.
  11. Yep, you pretty much got it. Find warmer water, cover the north shorlines, look for shallow, dark bottoms. If you get one, stick to that area, there will be more. They could all be in a very small area though, so make sure you don't miss anything. I've caught hundreds of crappies out of an area no bigger than 10x10. If I had of missed taking a cast there, i probably would have been skunked! I like 2" grubs, tubes, and finesse minnows under a float. S.
  12. IMO, if you are primarily a troller, a kicker is a solid investment. Why put all the hours on your main motor? Why pay more than double to maintain a big motor, when you can maintain a kicker for MUCH cheaper. Think about it. Over the course of 10 years, you will rack up the hours on your main motor. i don't care what you say, that's not good for an outboard. Put the hours on your kicker, pay less for the engine, and pay less to maintain it, and also have a plan B if the main motor has a hiccup. Seems like a smart plan to me. I wish I had a kicker on mine!!! S.
  13. The anglers. Why would the CO's be paranoid??
  14. The best is still to come! You can't beat march ice fishing! S.
  15. the kicker can also save your if you run into trouble with the main engine. S.
  16. Ha..good ole Roy Payne. I've had him in my living room many times for a jam session. Quite the character he is!! S.
  17. The kawartha's are another good choice. That's where I will be! S.
  18. I like a longer rod for pannies. I use a 7ft ultralight clarus. Works awesome, and its a little easier casting floats with the extra length. I find with crappies, you gotta cast as far as you can a lot of the time, so the length helps with the long casts too. S.
  19. I cast and reel with my right. Switch hands every time. It just happens, and I know I can keep up with the "other guys" who cast left, reel right without the switch. I don't even know it happens. S.
  20. Enjoy the adventure. You won't have any problems. How much ice is under the hut? Pack yourself a good runway before you try moving it, then let 'er rip. S.
  21. I often wonder what it takes to be put on mod q? Anyone care to elaborate? S.
  22. There are whities, but not many, and its a loooong ways to get them lol S.
  23. No, but I know of an access with 14" of ice
  24. I still have some holes to drill this season. I haven't fished whities or lakers at all, and I need to re stock on perch S.
