Batten down the hatches big storm coming!!!
Sinker replied to Kawartha Kev's topic in General Discussion
Bah....all media hype. They get everyone all riled up for a big storm, then we get a bit of wind. I haven't seen a proper storm in years!! Bring on 3ft of snow and temps below -20 for a week or two straight. That's a storm! S. -
Exactly! The guys who are going by the letter of the law are a little paranoid if you ask me!! S.

My boat is rated for a 40, and I have a 40 on it. I would love to put a 60 on it, because I've been in a few situations where I could have used the extra ponies. Like running from a storm with a fully loaded boat. I can get it up on plane in rough water, but she's working hard. The 60 would have we with a little extra jam just in case I needed it. You can never go wrong with more power. A 20 horse will burn quite a bit less gas than a 25. For the extra 5hp, I'd just get the 20. Tha'ts more than enough power for that boat, and waterbody. S.
-
I have a pull start 40hp tiller....only one I've ever seen. It starts up no problem with half a pull. My kids can't get it started though, so until they can, they can't take the boat! S.

I run mine off the front side cleats as well. Once you wrap a good fish in your stern buckets, you will start to look for a better way. S. -
Welcome to the board Juli. Feels like we know you already! S.

Yup, your right. I'm a confused moron. I'm only telling you what I've seen. Have you heard of any other brand of boats that split open?? (other than tracker) I'm not bashing Crestliner, I'm just not a fan of welded hulls. Period. I wouldn't buy a welded anything unless the metal was thick enough to safely weld without having to worry about it splitting open. Buy whatever brand you want, I'm just telling you what I know. While your pm'ing Bernie, ask him how many he's seen come back for warranty work. S.

Check the thickness on those harbourcrafts.....apples and oranges. S.

I run my boat 12 mos of the year, since new, fishing and hunting from it. Whats your point? I'm just sharing my experience. I know Crestliners are nice boats, I'm just not sold on welded aluminum on any boat. I have had no personal experience dealing with crestliner, but have several friends who have. They were all resolved, but took a long time to be completed. One buddy had no boat for most of the softwater season, and his boat split open in the fall. Too long, first of all, and it should have never happened to begin with. S.

Only bass guys drink beer. Real fisherman drink whiskey.....straight up!! S.

Well you run your crestliner, and when she splits open, and your boat is gone for almost a full year getting repaired, You can join me any time in my 20 year old, leakless, riveted STARCRAFT anytime you'd like. Deal? Just hope and pray it doesn't decide to split open when your 10 miles off shore with a storm front on its way!! I just wouldn't feel comfortable in a boat that "could" split open on me while on the water. I value my life more than my boat manufacturer. BTW, you ever wonder why they guarantee their boats for life?? S.
-
Is this a welded hull? I've seen 3 crestliners split wide open on the welds now. Personally, I would never buy a welded hull. Just sayin... S.

The 2012 Lake Ontario trolling season is just around the corner!
Sinker replied to fishdawg's topic in General Discussion
I'm actually looking forward to trolling inland trout this year. I plan on spending more time on the smaller lakes for a change. Of course, I will have my derby ticket, and get out on the big lake as often as I can, but most trips will be after work in the evenings. I think its going to be a great season on the big water. Big fish, and lots of them. Lets hope mother nature lets us play out there as much as we'd all like to!! S. -
I think your being a little paranoid. How are you supposed to know the length of the fish if you don't take possession of it for a measurement? Your worried about being charged for that?? Come on....there are bigger things in life to worry about!!! I'd bet 80% of muskies caught are undersized....and get their photo taken! S.

Got a feeling this is going to be the earliest spring
Sinker replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
I was on quinte, Cliff. More open water than ice down that way, although we did fish close enough to ice to see some icefisherman. Crazy winter for sure. S. -

I had the boat out today. First time its ever seen water in Feb!! S. -
I was going to ask how many times you pushed the primer...... S.

There is no wood where these screws are, just thick aluminum. They don't leak, and never have all this time. I'm not going to touch anything. S.
-
I just srcrewed a couple aluminum self tapping screws into the old holes. Doesn't leak a drop, and they've been in there for years now. No caulking or any type of sealant so far. S.
-
just goes to show you can't believe everything you read on the internet! Sounds like you guys did alright, and had a good time! S.
-
That tiger is awesome!! One fish I've never caught!! S.
-
I've left there empty handed more times than I've found what i needed. No loss to me whatsoever. If I never set foot inside the doors there again, It wouldn't hurt my feelings one bit! S.

I'd say the east side has the best ice, and best fishing right now. Drilled thru 16" today, and got some nice perch

thanks for the info.....where are you getting it from? Who defines an acceptable period of time for removal? How long is it? A day, week, month, year?? I still think he will get no charges at all. MOE won't waste thier time with a vehicle thru the ice, unless its contaminating something. An outboard motor will put more contamination in that lake than that truck will just sitting there like that. They have bigger fish to fry. I understand that a truck in the lake is a source of contamination in itself, but its not doing anymore harm than any boats do in the course of a season. Of course, it will have to be removed at some point. I would love to look into charges laid to vehicle owners who have gone thru bad ice. I would think there aren't many out there?? Ironically, I drove out on simcoe that same day. Different part of the lake, and we had plenty of ice for driving, but I had the kids and wife with me in the car with me. 20" of ice is more than enough to float my subaru. Where this guy was driving was open water not long ago. Where i was has been frozen since december. They should just have a stupidity law.....that would surely bring in some revenue!! haha S.
