  1. I think what you want is a power drive myself. Even a 70lb 24v unit would serve you very well. You can find them used. I bought mine from a member here about 6 years ago, and its still going just as good as the day I got it! A good buddy of mine also bought a used 70lb 24V PD from a member here, and its been great for 2 seasons now. Generally, if something goes wrong, its in the footpedal, and you can replace them for less than $100. I couldn't fish without mine. The best part is being able to operate it from anywhere in the boat with one foot. I use the continuous setting almost always, whether I'm slow trolling, or working a weedline. Great for keeping on course while drifting too. I'll tell you one thing, once you have one, you will wonder how you ever fished without one!! Its the best tool on my boat. I'd rather have no graph than no bowmount! I'd say find a used one from a member here, and giver a whirl. Its really hard to wreck one. I've never even heard of one flat out quitting. S.
  2. Crappies and eyes should be at any of the locks on the trent now at night. Even off shore in the lakes, the eyes will be in shallow water at night. The last hour of daylight, into the dark is the best time, but we catch eyes all night long. A simple "pickeral rig" with minnows almost never fails. Clip a bell on your rod, and enjoy yourself. At night, the shallows are warmer, and full of minnows. The eyes come in chasing bait. Suspending stick baits, with a slow pull, pause retrieve works good too if there's not too many weeds. Good luck! The fall can be some of the best shore fishing of the year! S.
  3. A 2wd truck will do pretty good if you know how to drive it. Throw some weight in the back, plus the weight of the boat on the trailer, and you'd be surprised what it can do. All that said, I won't ever drive anything that doesn't turn all 4 wheels. So much easier on the vehicle too. S.
  4. Good stuff guys! Those are some nice bass, but the walleye looks delicious S.
  5. Beauty tiger!! I've never caught one! I'll assume that came out of Balsam, and not sturg?? You guys did awesome, thats a pile of musky! S.
  6. Good stuff Nick! Sucks about the skybusters, but seems to be the trend for us so far this season too. We managed a limit sunday morning, 11 bills and a mallard, and took 3 11 year old kids out this morning. I'm surprised they didn't scare every duck in the county they were so loud and couldn't sit still lol......they had a lot of fun though, and somehow, we managed to get 5 ducks to top it off. Love this time of year!! Take care of the young lad! Hope he's feeling better! S.
  7. Yeah, the original contractor had to back out due to time constraints(late start), and they can't find one now to do the job within their budget. Its not even fisher people that are doing it. I'm not sure how valleys 2000 got involved, but they are holding the money. Supposedly. This is the second season its been closed. Last fall, this past spring, and now this fall. I heard a rumour that something may happen mid-late october, but who knows. Its a mess down there, that's all I know. The sad part is they had good intentions. The new fishway is going to be a huge improvement. Most of the material is there already too. I wish they'd just blow it up and leave it natural, but that's just my opinion. S.
  8. Its more complicated than it seems. I've called, and talked with many in the know. Basically, it boils down to this. You can't do construction on the dam when fish are in the river. S.
  9. It absolutely works, its just not easy. You need the right materials for sure, or its not going to happen. A bic lighter works much better. S.
  10. Too little, too late Brian. I was there. I lived it bud. Watched it happen with my own eyes. Its the ONLY reason I'm not still there. My family fought to have something done, but it all fell to deaf ears until it was too late! Lots of fish there now though. My old man has been taking advantage of the recreation fishing seasons, and trust me, it doesn't take long to catch 15/boat. Some days you drop a jigger down and have one on the first jig every time. Big fish too! And yeah, you can't compare anything you get in ON to fresh fish!! Not even close!! S.
  11. So, where do you get your 150 roe bags from? You trying to say your not killing fish?? I know you have some ethics Mike, don't get me wrong, but don't say you don't understand where I'm coming from! The steelhead guys kill fish, to catch more fish. Its a fact. I'm not saying. Every guy who fishes migratory fish slits them and leaves them on the bank, but I'd wager to bet that a good majority do. S.
  12. These threads always make me chuckle. You guys all back up how important the wild rainbows are, and how they need to be protected....yada, yada, yada.....then as soon as a fresh run is in, your the first one at the creek/river keeping the hens, so you can kill them. I don't get it. The whole fishery needs to be shut down. Why is it that the migratory fish are the only fish with an open season during spawning season anyways?? Who's idea was that in the first place?? It makes no sense whatsoever. Don't get me wrong, I spent decades fishing the tribs, but all more than a decade ago. Back then, there were more fish than fisherman, and people had a little respect for each other, and some ethics. I don't see that any more. I see more fisherman, NO ethics, and FAR LESS fish. I guess like everything else in ON, it will be taken care of when its too late. S.
  13. I don't know anyone who pays as much attention to fuel mileage, and little details on a boat as you. I couldn't tell ya what my boats mileage is like, but I know when I'm out in it, its worth EVERY penny S.
  14. I'm afraid things are going to get much worse, before they get better. I'm scared to even vote anymore.... S.
  15. Rubbing two sticks works, but its not easy. I've done it for fun, but in a survival situation, I wish you good luck. Its not easy. I'll take my bic lighter every time. S.
  16. I"d like to see where you found that in the regs...... S.
  17. I understand your intent, but they guy could have had you charge with harrassment, and you would have been guilty. Be careful doing stuff like that. What if he had a few buddies with him?? S.
  18. Peninsula is good. There's also the port bolster inn, in port bolster. Used to be Casey and Leona Creber running it, but new owners now. They seem nice enough, but I've never stayed there. I stop for breaky and bait there always though. S.
  19. They have the water diverted from the fishway. Its essentially dry right now. Valleys 2000 is the group responsible for most of this, contact them and raise hell. S.
  20. Chris, they've been lifting fish since late august as often as possible. I think almost 10,000 fish have been lifted so far. S.
  21. I'm pretty sure I have some shaggy manes growing on my lawn. LOTS of mushrooms in the bush right now. S.
  22. Bic lighter. Always. Everywhere I go. S.
  23. Ok, I want it to get real cold for a few weeks, then get a HUGE dump of snow for a few days, then back to real cold again so the snow stays. I don't like when it snows one day, and rains the next, then gets cold..... S.
  24. The fish ladder was never broken, it just wasn't big enough for the chinooks. I think this valleys 2000 group is screwing with the money for the ladder myself, but I could be wrong. Its sure taking a long time to get anything done, and nobody seems to have a straight answer on whats happening. S.
  25. And how do you know the pipe is broken? Have you had a camera down there? I think your getting hosed myself. There's no way I'd pay that much. I'd do it myself. Rent a machine, dig it up, replace the "broken" section, inspect, and backfill. Could be done in a day if the inspector is available. S.
