  1. I managed to get my daughter and her pup out for some Cat fishing, she (my daughter, not the pup) has never caught one. She was successful, me, not so much. She managed 2 good sized Bullheads and 3 Channel Cats and one small Goat (that's for you JGM, Baaaaah!). The largest cat she was not willing to hold.

  2. Just port hope being port hope. They’d fill the river in with cement if they could.

  4. You are a northern redneck for sure; but with a different edge. You know what the (#*^%) you’re doing. I’m not a big Mopar guy ; but that pic sure does show the icing on the cake. What an amazing display of Chrysler’s glory days. Dan

  5. x3........Grimsby Tackle and Fishing World are it for me. Bass Pro, and Cabelas are dead to me for all my fishing and hunting needs - if you want to act like a corporation you better be prepared to be treated like one by your customers.

  6. Baitcasters for me are a tricky thing. I like to cast baits far so I dial in the tension to do that. Then turn the boat into the wind to follow the weedline - backlash. Wind is a baitcasters enemy. This is where thumbing the spool as the line goes out is important. As for the right/left thing, here is my opinion- Spinning reel - left hand retrieve, float reel left hand, fly reel left hand, downrigging reel left hand, mooching reel left hand etc. Baitcaster - left hand retrieve. Why anyone would fumble around switching hands during a cast is something I will never understand. I once saw a buddy almost lose his musky rod when his reel backlashed while he was switching hands. I just think its a wasted movement.

  8. You've received some good advice here siwash but just remember that there's absolutely nothing mystical or difficult about a baitcaster and just think of it as another tool in the box and in no time you'll be firing baits all over the lake without thinking about. As someone mentioned before just snug down the tension a bit to start and gradually loosen it off as you get the hang of it. I had all my reels set up so that I could fire a bait as hard as I wanted and as soon as it touched the water the reel would stop spinning. As the weight on the different baits changed it just takes a slight adjustment and your good to go again. Just takes a bit of practice & you'll be golden.

  9. ^^ second to that. I was truly good boy this season, all shopping done locally. In some cases I was given really good deals.

  13. I disagree. The far majority of issues are from people that don't know better so calling them stupid is unfair. We have almost useless boating card system that could to be expanded to include boat launch etiquette. Yelling abuses at people is not education.

  14. just a reminder friends...rather than buying at big box canadian tire, walmart and even bass pro. Support local, Gangons, Natural sports, Pro J and Peterborough pro tackle all sell the same gear or better while allowing you to support small business!

  15. Just because you have CHARTER on your boat means nothing. I had a couple in front of me at Rosedale launch struggling. 25 ft boat they just picked up at second marina to east of Rosedale launch. I'm in hurry to get home and to work but I wait a bit. They had the worst loading condition heavy current and howling wind and trailer way to far in water. So I go over ask if they need help. Husband driving boat little reluctant but agrees. I get wife to pull truck ahead get boat loaded all good. By the time he got back to launch I had my boat load and just climbing out. He was amazed and want explanation , I told him about my work thing and that I would be back tomorrow the time I would be launching and time I would be loading. Next day he was waiting for me went threw the full deal. Ran into from time to time for few years. Always said thank you just a great guy that need a little help.

  16. Did you bring an XL coffee and foot stool, might take a while to read. Charge batteries before leaving home, if you have muffs, do a quick start to make sure it starts at the launch. Put all your fishing gear into the boat in the parking lot. Put plug in boat. Undo all straps except winch( depends on launch). If you need a Ford with back up assist, then take up a different hobby or go practice at Wmart. Launch, and get the heck out of the way.

  17. I hope the spring spawn for walleye is good. Saw a couple guys fishing the bottom of Burleigh Falls today just up from Stoney. Signs all over about Fish Sanctuary. 😐
