  1. That's what I was thinking. Maybe even going with an aluminum solid bar rather then tubing? Just for the heck of it, I looked up a 12" length of 1/2" aluminum bar and was only $10.00 and change. Dan. Metal Supermarket

  2. Budget determined that I use clamp on rigger. I have used a Scotty 1080 for several years with 10 lb ball in combination with a dipsy rod as I fish solo from my tin boat. I have not had any issues with that downrigger.

  5. It doesn't look that badly bent and I might be a bit leery of heating a piece of thin wall aluminum pipe. If it is removable you might try finding a piece of oak dowel rod that will fit snugly inside the pipe and slide it in farther as you bend it straight? using a piece of iron pipe?

  7. I really don't think brake fluid is "rotated" through the system. The brake fluid reservoir is just that, no in and out line. All you would have is a reasonably clean reservoir and old fluid past that.

  8. Wow, that’s so lucky! Last year I saw a guy bottom fishing for salmon at the pier. He just made a cast and just placed his rod down while taking a seat on his chair. Next thing you know his rod gets pulled in the water. A min or two passes and you hear a few guys down calling fish on! The guy ends up hooking onto the dudes rod. He unhooks the rod and the original guy came in and fought his fish and lands it. Very lucky.

  9. I run manuals on my boat (Canon Easy Troll) but spent many years chartering on lake O and if I were getting electrics I would get Big Jon Captains Packs. They were always my favorite riggers to use.

  10. My older brother has just been put on hospice with covid. Back in 1970 he was shot by a sniper in Vietnam, he lost half a lung an eye and he was paralysed from the chest down. He always handled it very well and did as much as he could up untill the last couple of years.

  11. I ran one electric and one manual. For me the manual was good to 60’ deep. Deeper and it got to be a lot of cranking. So manual for shallow fishing

  13. As a newbie to down rigging this year, I’ve already learned to hate manual Downriggers. I’m going electric as soon as I can afford it

  16. I have both, Electric is the cats butt... yet manuals are smaller and lighter. If you plan on really doing the down rigging go electric. If cost and time spent are concerns manuals are just as good. one note if you plan on running heavy weights manuals will be a workout. I use manuals on like Erie and when camping 5-8lb weights

  19. Morning Rog If you are on fish, you are going to regret the manual. The Mag Scotty electric,s are sweet. Terry has them and they make the day much more enjoyable. I would stay away from clamp on riggers .

  21. Welcome to the environment friendly dark side. LOL Nice price and deal. I know the outcast are up there, but the material (outer skin ) is unreal tough. Navy grade IMO. I have the outcast now. It,s like a yak sorta, but man is it stable . Still have not yet tried the electric motor, but now have a 30lb, so need to give it a try. Enjoy the new ride.
