bigbuck Posted August 23, 2011 Report Posted August 23, 2011 Ron, good for you!!!! I will try to be there on the 19th. I grew up going to Cobourg beach and know the area well. Keep on fighting!!
thatleetboy Posted August 23, 2011 Report Posted August 23, 2011 I don't know if this has been suggested already but how about we have a OFC meet and greet at the cobourg harbour salmon should be staging soon Good job Ron give em heck at the council meeting. I think this is a GREAT idea! Congrats Ron for taking a stand!
fishindevil Posted August 23, 2011 Report Posted August 23, 2011 awesome ron congrats,and thank-you !!! victory is yours man....cheers
206 Posted August 23, 2011 Report Posted August 23, 2011 I look forward to seeing the write up in Cobourg's news paper. Right now, I am on my way out the door to wet a line in the Cobourg Harbour! How did it go this time...and do we know where exactly we would be "safe" to fish down there?
dks Posted August 23, 2011 Report Posted August 23, 2011 Thanks for fighting the good fight Ron. I'm curious as well, what did the "burning debris" turn out to be?
fishing n autograph Posted August 23, 2011 Report Posted August 23, 2011 It happens a lot in court. Usually what happens is that the charge is correct when the ticket is submitted to records and the bumbling dummy in records screws up the crown folder. The prosecution wouldn't change the charge, they would simply withdraw it
fishing n autograph Posted August 23, 2011 Report Posted August 23, 2011 Congrats though! Dumb ticket anyway!
Michael_Brown Posted August 23, 2011 Report Posted August 23, 2011 Dumb ticket anyway! We pointed out this fact to the Justice of the Peace. It took three municipal police and three By-law commissionairs almost four hours to issue one ticket that had two mistakes. In defence of the police, it's not their issue and they did not want to be involved. Hopefully the Town council sees the light and withdraws these by-laws.
whitbyboatguy Posted August 24, 2011 Report Posted August 24, 2011 Good work. I hate bullies (yes, hate) It is unlawful to interfere with people fishing....if it was pursued I don't think that it would have went over well. Not that it did. I don't think judges like having shenanigans going on. I think I am going to drive to Coburg because I feel goooood.
HTHM Posted August 24, 2011 Report Posted August 24, 2011 I have tried to find an article in the local news for this story, but haven't yet. Has anyone else found anything?
Ron Posted August 24, 2011 Author Report Posted August 24, 2011 (edited) It should be in Wednesday's paper... I think/ Cheers, Ron... Edited August 24, 2011 by Ron
Harrison Posted August 24, 2011 Report Posted August 24, 2011 (edited) If I had a small fire and roasted a hot dog or two on the pier, would I be charged with fishing from the pier? Edited August 24, 2011 by Harrison
Aaron Shirley Posted August 24, 2011 Report Posted August 24, 2011 Ron, Mike, very well done! Congratulations. Our rights as anglers have been trampled for too long. Good for you guys. Ron, salmon derby is almost over. Let me know when you want to fish muskies
Ron Posted August 24, 2011 Author Report Posted August 24, 2011 (edited) Here is the link for the news paper. They just added it to their web site. Angler drops another line at harbour following 'disappointing victory' Special thanks to Pete Fisher for following this as it unfolded. Cheers, Ron... Edited August 24, 2011 by Ron

splashhopper Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 i liked it that Ron went back down fishing right after court,,,,, my kinda guy
Ron Posted August 25, 2011 Author Report Posted August 25, 2011 Thanks for the support everyone. I look forward to seeing many of you at the Town council meeting in Sept. I will be sure to give ample notice once the date is secured. As for fishing, the salmon season is soon to be upon us, there is not much for salmon in the Cobourg harbour. However the carp population is very high. Cheers, Ron...
206 Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 But Derrick Humber, area enforcement manager of the Ministry of Natural Resources, said Reyns may have got off lucky. "Nothing in the Ontario Fishing Regulations would prohibit someone fishing there," he said, "but if the Town passes a bylaw, then they can't fish there." So as long as you stand on the main pier(one you drive out on) you should be good....all other areas are already cover by town bylaws?
monsterfish Posted August 26, 2011 Report Posted August 26, 2011 WHEN I GROW UP I WANNA BE RON REYNS! Good on ya my friend! Keep your hooks sharp!
