One thing I have learned in buying M.I. stuff... spend a little more and get quality. Stuff like Behringer crap, will almost always have to be replaced. Once you learn more about what you like and dislike, you end up getting better stuff. Plus, the re-sale value of the crap stuff is non-existent. So, in the medium tolong run, yoiu are better off getting quality. Re-sale value as you grow out of things is much better as well. I don't suspect you are going to get what you want outta that First Act amp... HH

Here's a copy/paste from the article... "It was also clear from the review that maintaining current harvest levels would further threaten the population." So angler harvest level is cut in half and the other folks "harvesting" have only agreed to moritorium on the spring netting. And that is again, only the folks who they have any actual control over. On a related note, I would suggest that Lake Nip locals plan on eating a lot of fillets in the next week or so, as anything in your freezer after Jan 1, could land you in pretty hot water!! HH

Much easier to answer that question if we knew what that crappy amp is? Post a pic of the amp and maybe I can help. HH

Just to clarify... my MPP is in Pickering/Scarborough... that where the quote came from. HH

I received a response from my MPP in the mail today... in a nut shell, there is nothing there that I didn't know before the mail man arrived. Essentially, it is outlining what we have already been told here by some of the various stake holders. They have completely begged off anything to do with Native based issues, not there jurisdiction. Here's a quote... "Walleye between 40 and 60 centimetres must still be released as is currently required. This "slot" size continues to protect spawning sized walleye. However, stocking Walleye is not enough to bring about the recovery of the Walleye population in Lake Nipissing. We need to address the mortality rate of young Walleye. Reducing the catch limit is a positive first step towards walleye population recovery, but other management actions will be required. The changes are a good starting point for the development of a comprehensive Lake Nipissing fisheries management planning process that will explore developing objectives and management tactics for the Lake. The reduction in daily catch limits is just one part of a broader long term strategy for Lake Nipissing. In addition to developing a long-term management plan for Lake Nipissing, other management actions we are currently considering include exploration of additional angling opportunities for other species (eg yellow perch) and community based stocking. The Ministry of Natural Resources is also continuing a dialogue with local First Nations regarding the commercial fishery. At the same time, the Ontario government respects that Nipissing First Nation members have a treaty right to fish commercially on Lake Nipissing, as legally determined in the 1990 R.v. Commanda case." I wonder if the treaty allows them to empty the lake? Also, it seems that the MNR want us to fish for perch. I wonder how long before we see a commercial perch harvest, if there isn't one already? Anyway, there it is... HH

Oh so sweet! THREE ARRESTS IN $20M MAPLE SYRUP HEIST
Headhunter replied to Gerritt's topic in General Discussion
It's been my understanding after watching Buffalo news off and on, that most of western NY is a blaze most of the time... so unless they have the syrup in a fire proof installation, I'm guessing it's either on fire or about to burst into flames! HH -
I picked up an extra large roll of aluminum foil... gonna spend the evening making hats for me, my wife and kids. HH

I hope the charges stick! HH -
I am waiting on a letter from my MPP... I contacted their office last week and apparently, they contacted the MNR. I spoke with their office yesterday and they told me a letter has been sent to me... I await Canada post!LOL HH

There is quite a bit of un-rest in the country. Native groups have taken to the internet to form social groups and in turn a united front. They are coordinating efforts coast to coast. You can find out more here: http://idlenomore1.blogspot.ca/ HH

It better not... I have a gig New Years Eve! HH

Can we keep this on topic guys... I know many of us are frustrated, but in order to keep threads like these open, we need to stay calm and rational. I don't want to see yet another thread closed because we can't keep some things under control. HH

As I mentioned in either this or the other Nip thread, we are fortunate enough to have a member of NFN here at OFC... We have had this discussion in the past, here's the thread. http://ontariofishingcommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=62043&hl=Crossfire&st=0 I know there is another one as well... I'll see if I can dig it up. HH Edit- it seems this is the only thread I can dig up..

I stepped away from this for a bit and put some more thought into it... I would like the folks who are arguing against any sort of gun control in the U.S. to suggest what they think should be done in light of recent events. Many say that we don't know what we are talking about, so enlighten me, if you have the knwoledge, tell me what should be done. Thanks, HH

How much do we need to know? I know that 20 kids were killed last week. I know that numerous others were killed last year in Virginia. I know that in the next few weeks, I'll be reading about another incident with similar results. I think I know enough. It's taken 200 years for the U.S. to reach this point; it'll take another 200 years for change to take place. RE the car analogy presented here... When I grew up everyone drove their cars home from the bar. Drunk driving was seen as a part of life. Now, after education and persistence, you are seen publically as a leper if you drive drunk. There are no organizations arguing people's rights to drive drunk. Why can't the same be done with fire arms... and before anyone suggests it, I don't have a hate on for guns. I actually think they are pretty cool! But my liking them doesn't negate the fact that they are too easily gotten and not nearly enough people take proper precautions. I'd really like to see some of you guys argue your points at those kid's funeral. HH

I will when I see endless numbers of cars being driven into schools killing kids. HH

Many here have said that they wish these poor victums rest in peace... I can't think that way. I can only hope that their restless souls haunt the powerful gun lobby and legislators. I hope that the next time they hit the range to enjoy their "hobby", they put pictures of those kids on their targets and ask themselves this question; Is my enjoyment of this hobby really worth the lives of these kids and the ones who haven't been shot yet? Because we all know this will happen again. HH
-
Exactly my point Randy. We seen this before and it happened for the same reasons. I fear that we will not have learned anything from the past and that greed will again, destroy the lake for an entire generation. HH
-
Just to play devil's advocate for a moment... given your example of the Saugeen, I think it's fantastic that a ground level group has done so much to increase angler opportunities, but, and please correct me if I'm wrong here... I don't suppose that any groups on the Saugeen run nets across the river in the spring of fall to harvest these fish? And if they did, how long would volunteers be showing up to continue the stocking program? HH
-
I'll do my part, happily, if EVERYONE does their part. There's not enough fish in Nip for anglers to take home four, but there is enough for gill nets to be set. There's not enough fish in Nip so we have to have a slot limit, gill nets know no slot. There are hundereds of businesses that surround the lake that are going to hurt badly as a result of this change... except one; they will be selling more fillets to guys like you! HH edit for spelling

The vast majority of anglers follow the rules... that's been my experience. Those who don't should be caught and punished by the law. The anglers who don't shouldn't have to pay a price because others don't play far. The whole thing is so obvious, but essentially, if they made Nip a catch and release only lake for Pickereyes, it would still be doomed to the same fate. Sure it may take a little longer, but it will happen. If all parties agreed to cutting their numbers in half, more enforcement of regs and agreements, then using science to determin next courses, then I for one would understand that being a positive go forward position. So far only one group has been made to "take one" for the lake. HH
