  1. Fantastic report... got me ":pine'in" for a trip up north! Thanks so much for taking the time... as many already mentioned, great pic and I felt I was with right there with you! (I wish!) HH
  2. 10 colours out off of an in-line board and you've got pretty much the same result as the dipsey. BTW - I've got about 100 -150 yds. of 30 lb backing on my lead core reel... but I hear yah! Maybe take a look at a large capacity Penn reel for this application... since your using lead core anyway, you don't REALLY need a counter reel. HH
  3. My Lead Core set up uses mono backing... 30lb test to be exact. I to, use the super glue trick! As Lead core linesvary in strength, I use the 30lb mono with I believe around 34lb (?) Leadcore. Pull about 2-3 inches of the core sheath back, and cut the lead. Insert your mono into the sheath and super glue the entire joint. Let it sit for about 5 minutes and your done. As mentioned above, Lead core strengths vary and you may have to experiment with various strengths of mono to get the best fit. FYI - I have never had this application break! Trout, Salmon, Pickeral... none have broken it and it lasts as long as your mono lasts. It reels up into a level wind perfectly and is flexible enough to use in sub zero temps! You can also do it while out on the water as it's really pretty easy! HH
  4. Yup... what musky Matt said... if the burner is pushed up too far into the valves, the bbq is being starved of air flow and your just burning propane as opposed to oxygen and propane. Try moving the burner away from the valves and the try adjusting the oxygen breathers to get a blue flame! HH
  5. Just speculation but I don't think Lake Erie's temperature range would support Atlantic Salmon? Just a guess though? HH
  6. Congrats Clive! That's a good Pike for that water! The Thames is really an amazing fishery, considering what it is and where it is... yah just never really know what yer gonna get! And you've really only concentrated on one small section! Keep up the good work! HH
  7. Fish Saginaw Bay! Walleye heaven I understand! HH
  8. NO licence required TJ... it's a "put and take" resource! HH
  9. Just pop open a man hole cover, drop a ham sandwich down the hole, fells like ice fishin, and get ready for a "CHUD" to grab it and run! (CHUD - Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dweller!) They put up on heck of a fight, but are not recommended table fare! HH
  10. Thanks to all who responded, here and through PM's! I think I've got 'er solved at this point, but I do reserve the right to come back and beg for help! LOL HH
  11. Sounds like a great time... not surprised, FnS is a great guy and very generous with his time and resources! WTG! HH
  12. Hi folks! I have just moved into my new to me house, it has an in-ground pool and I'm having some concerns about the pump/filter system. If anyone out there has some knowledge in this area, I'd sure appreciate a PM! Thanks in advance! HH
  13. Wow Gary! Last message I got from you sounded like you had things back on track! I guess with a weight loss program like that, who the heck needs Jenny Craig? Take'er easy, leave your ego out on the lake and get better soon! In reality, you've really only missed two weeks of the bass season... they'll be there when you get there! Take care and do what the doc and your loved ones tell yah! I hope to read about your successful outing soon! HH Oh yah... Happy Birthday!
  14. Congrats BBR! Advice will come at you from all directions, fast and furious. Here's the only thing I will say to you... cherish the times you spend with your little one's. I know it seems like they're never gonna grow up fast enough and that you will have to change many of the things you've been doing, to accomodate the new family. They grow up fast, much faster than it seems when your living through it! Cherish these times, you don't get a 2nd chance! HH
  15. Hey Clive... if you happen to spot some gar, try this... tie on a medium to small size treble hook and hook up a small float about 6-8 inches above the treble. Wrap as many minnows around that treble (they don't have to be alive) as you can and toss it out to them. They will drag it around for a bit... when you think you have an opportunity for a hook set, let 'er have it! Found small count down Raps to be the ticket in the deep pools you'll find for pickeral. Also, floating jointed Raps almost always caught us smallies... just cast in and around anything that is making a current break and you'll find them. Sorry I didn't know that Springbank Dam is wide open... been 25 years! LOL HH
  16. This entire situation is nothing more than a mockery of a travesty! Holy remote taxation! I understand what your doing, but honestly, if I had the time and the money to fight it, I would! I can't help but think that this is going on all the time and exactly how much money is this sort of "enforcement" costing the good people of the north, in tourist dollars?! Ask yourself this question... if you were visiting our fine country, spent a ton of dough to get to a remote site and have the "local authorities" treat you like this.... would you come back and spend your hard earned dollars? If I owned the camp you were staying at, I'd be raising cane to the local MNR office! HH
  17. My condolences to you Cliff and all who were affected by this loss! A very fitting tribute as well. HH
  18. Not surprised by your catch Clive! The Thames will surprise you almost every time out! There are tons of White Bass in and around the Springbank Dam, just toss a minnow and hook, no weight into the turbulence under the dam and you will catch them all day! Also, you'll find Gar, Bowfin, Pickeral, trout, smallies, pike... well as I said, pretty much anything goes! Another spot to try, close to down town is the train bridge on Horton street. There is a very deep hole under that bridge and I have caught pickeral there in mid July. There are also some really nice smallies that hang in that section of the river, all the way up to the Labatt's dam. If your fishin Carp in the Thames, big fat juicey night crawlers are an excellent bait! And if it's carp your after, the train bridge in Greenway Park and down stream to the big river curve holds tons of huge carp and suckers. It's a nice quiet area to spend a nice summer day! Let me know if I can be of any other help! I grew up fishin that river! HH
  19. Thanks for the kind words folks! Moving is not fun, but the rewards are worth it! Tony, glad things are workin out for you on the move. I keep reminding myself that the main causes of divorce are money problems and moving! My wife and I agreed early one that we will not argue during the move... atleast not with each other!LOL Gerritt... so you are heading up with the boss to "Camp Sleep Deprivation?" Have a great time! It's a beautiful place, try and not spend too much time exploring the lodge and boat house... that could take you the better part of the weekend! While your there, see if you can find some fish as well! The Ontario record rainbow caught last year by the couple pickeral fishin is only 5 miles away from the boss's camp... lots of water to fish, maybe too much Set up the minnow trap when you get there and try drifting the main channel out in front of the camp... some nice smallies cruise out there! Take care folks! HH PS... the pool is open and ready to accept swimmers... I've already started to take the hooks off of some of my cranks... so I can test them out in the pool... strictly for tuning purposes!
  20. Just wanted to wish all a great weekend. I'm off till next Tuesday, moving into my new to me house on Thursday. I hope everyone who gets out and enjoys the weekend is safe, surrounded by good friends and loved ones and hooks into and lands, the fish of their dreams! Myself, I'm unloading trucks, storage containers and trying to find a bathroom in the new house. Looking forward to reading all the reports next week! HH
  21. Thanks Folks! Keep them coming! Appreciate the insight and time it takes to post! HH
  22. Hey folks, I'm in the market for a 2nd car, with gas consumption and family safety being the keys to this buying decision. My Jimmy just isn't fuel efficient enough to drive back and forth from my new house, into town. I've been looking at the Subaru, specifically the Forrester. Does anyone have any experience with these vehicles? I've driven one of my friends a few years ago, seemed like a peppy car, very stable. Any thoughts on these vehicles? Good or bad, let it fly! HH PS... If you have a 4 cylinder vehicle that's in good shape and your interested in selling it.... PM me!
  23. Nice bass and even better Izumi hold!LOL Great report! HH
  24. Wow, he's a natural G! Great pics, will be worth their weight in gold in a few years! Thanks for taking the time to post! Great read, but better pics! HH
  25. Yup, just as Tony said! We all learn from our experiences, each has there own preferences. Give'm a go and you'll like them alot... or, hire a guide for a day on say Lake Erie, watch them like a hawk and repeat! As I run Offshore boards, I have changed the main clip to the locking kind and have yet to have a fish dislodge the board... I can see how it would happen with churches. Don't forget Lead core off of the boards... HH
