Congrats on 30 Terry! It a real accomplishment in these times. HH

I was close by there on Saturday morning and I saw nothing happening for the hour and a bit I was there. Hopefully soon! HH

I was gonna ask the same question Roy! Musta had a really good negotiator on your side when you worked out that job offer !LOL HH

Ok... here's my take on this... yes, they must follow the rules and only keep their limits. They must also abide by all the other regs... but from what I can tell, most of these folks are shore fishing and as such, can't possibly empty a body of water of it's pan fish. Personally, I'd rather have them shore bound keeping 3 in. Sunfish, then out on the lake, keeping OOS smallies or whatever! With today's spending measures in place, I guess the MNR have to pick their times/battles! HH

You should not have a problem with any Salmon on 8lb line... question I have is, what size/type of rod are you using? A standard 7 ft. medium rod is not going to cut it! You need a very long rod and PATIENCE! I've seen guys fight salmon for hours on light line! They will beat the fish, if they have the patience. As Bob said, set your drag, pull up a chair and fight it out! Your obviously doing something right, your getting hook ups! Also, as suggested, check your line frequently... zebra mussels will make quick order of your line, with even the slightest rub on the bottom. And mono is far more forgiving then no stretch on those long runs. HH

Well done Cliff! I guess if you have to get out, a big Chinny is better than a few pannies! HH

I rear ended a car this morning... I knew it was going to be a REALLY bad day. The driver got out of the other car, and he was a DWARF! He looked up at me and said, "I am NOT happy". I said, "Well, which one ARE you then?" That's when the fight started!!! HH

I've seen a 6 footer caught on the French, near Noelville and also seen some pretty biggins caught on the St. Clair river. (Sturgeon) I have to agree with Deano though, your more likely to tie into a big Chinny and have your arms ripped out, then you are to connect with a big old Sturgeon. HH

Ok... now I'm confused! Aniceguy, your info is the same as some of the 2nd hand info I've received... the Ganny and the Wilmont both travel through the Ganaraska forrest and that water stays pretty darn cold all summer long! Any further info re Koho and it's ablity to reproduce naturally in the Lake O basin? I don't like or want to kill any fish for no reason... kind of a no win situation here? HH
-
Yah Cliff... it's a little nuts to say the least! I'd be really pleased with Kelly or Kelly, but alas, I don't recognize any of these folks! Surprise Surpirse! HH
-
Thanks for that... so I can now get over the immense feeling of guilt I've been carrying around for a couple of days! HH
-
Interesting Rick... is it a fact that Koho's don't naturally reproduce in the Lake O area? Salmon i get as a put and take fishery, but Steelies? Are they not solid natural reproducers in the many tribs on the lake? Thanks, HH

We've had a Bollywood production team here in our office since Tuesday, using our boardroom for a lovely visual effect. There must be 25 people running in circles here today and we have yet another day of this stuff Thursday. Apparently at least some of the "actors" are famous as they were attached by fans out on Yonge Street during a break. I managed to watch a couple of takes today... man, I haven't seen that much cheese since my last visit to Kennsington Market! HH

That was a great read! Thanks for making my rotten day a little brighter! HH

Hey Guys, As I was fishing Lake O on the weekend, using riggers, dipsey's and lead core a question came to mind. All the fish we caught were kept and the belief was/is that these fish are coming up from fairly deep and won't survive after being boated. Personally, I'd like to keep one fish, then release the bigger/non-eater size. Is it true that these deep water fish won't survive a quick release? We had one self release at the net (Steelie) and we could see it struggling in the distance as we trolled along... it didn't look good for it! (We really couldn't back track and grab it as we had 5 other lines in the water at that time) What are your thoughts? HH

Got a 1/2 day leave from the warden, so hooked up with my buddy Tom and our family friend Skip. Skip had never fished before, so Saturday, took him to CTC to get a license and we were ready. Sunday morning was a bit chilly, but calm, we are good to go! Launched out of New Castle and headed for 300+ ft of water. After the 14 mile run out, rods in the water by 7:30am. Running two riggers, two dipsey's and one lead core, 10 colours out off an in-line board. Since SKip had never caught a fish before, he got to be the first up. 1/2 hour in, rigger goes off with a 6 lb steelie going ape poop! Skip had a ball! Next fish was a 11 lb Kohoe, really fat little football... caught on the lead core and it was my turn up. Silly thing fought hard at first, then starting running at the boat, from 300ft out! Man, talk about alot of reeling, my arm was aching by the time it saw the boat and made a U turn away! Stayed out until 12:00pm, with our total going 6 for 11(one salmon, the rest Steelies). Most fish lost we on no-stretch (Dipsey's), with one "self release"boat side and a 10lb plus fish. I have some pics, but lack the ability to post them. (computer dumbLOL) I believe that Skip would be pleased as all you know what, to do it again! Conditions on Sunday were great, slight chop and warming as the day went on! Question for you Trout guys... the Steelies and Kohoe I filleted, had eggs in them. Should I have saved them for some later season shore fishing? Are they too early at this time to be useful? They seemed small to me, but then again, I'm not really a trout dude so... any thoughts for next time? HH

Great story and thanks for the warning... I'd hate to have my sandwich coming flying out my nose! HH

What disturbs me most about these morons, is the fact that they don' t EVER offer viable alternatives, they only complain and disrupt! Oh, that and the fact that they target younger people for money and support, when in reality, the younger people following them have only seen one side of the story... GP's side! A little creative torpedoing will help to solve the problem! (PS... they must have been having a fit over the weekend as those fuel guzzling jets in the air show flew over head!) HH

I look forward to your reports every week! Keep 'em coming! HH

Hey Terry, If you recall, last year at Quinte I showed you how I Super Glue the mono leader into the sheath of the lead core! Simply pull back the plastic sheath, about 3-4 inches, cut the core, then slide your leader into the sheath. Tack down the joint right where they meet with a single drop of glue. Allow it to dry for a minute, then you can cover the rest of the joint with super glue. It will reel up perfectly! Allow about 15 minutes for the glue to dry and your good to go! I have NEVER had this system break! HH

I saw that one the news last night Lew... the funny thing is it will take them a week to get there! HH

Offshore snap weights attached to your line, about 50ft in front of your lure/bait will act as a poor man's downrigger very well. http://www.offshoretackle.com/weights.htm Give'm a try, they worked pretty well for me in a similar situation, just vary your speed and or weight to achieve the depth you seek! The St. Clair river holds Sturgeon and biggins too! I've seen many anglers with their telephone poles plying the waters of the St.Clair river. Heard tell of some of them requiring guys to hop on a boat a follow it for hours, in an effort land them. Huge tackle, including terminal tackle for those beasts... maybe check out a local board for more info. HH

Just another day on Erie!LOL HH
