  1. Do their "rights" allow them to net the rivers as well? I'm wondering if these folks are keeping the fish for personal consumption or are they making it to the cities, unregulated and illegally? If it is the latter, who's jurisdiction would law enforcement be? OPP, native police or the MNR? I don't have a problem with them spearing if it's within their rights, but they should not be profitting financially from the raping of the resource. HH
  2. I have to agree with Outdoorguy regarding Jasper. I hired a guide from Curries (I think!) with a coupla other guys, when I was out there 5 or 6 years ago. Far too many options to fish without a guide in such a short period of time. We trolled for Pike with fly rods from one of those huge canoe's and an electric. Seems most of the lakes in the Jasper area are no gas engines. The guys who I booked with were not die hard fisherman, so the guide decided to take us to an easy lake to fish. Personally, I'd have preferred to fish a back lake for Trout, but was not the day for that! One word of advice when bookin the guide. Make sure that the guide understands that you are an experienced fisherman and that physical challenges and bad weather will not affect your desire or ability to fish for the day. Many times, these guides get rookies to take out and will not always put you onto the best spot, but the easiest for novices. Don't know the regs out there either, we were there late July/early August and I believe everything was open then. ALso, be prepared for very drastic weather changes, very quickly! The day before I went out, it was an unheard of for those parts 33 degrees C! Next day, it snowed... That being the day we went out fishin! Good luck! HH
  3. Sweet ride Roger! That boat screams Quinte with that nice deep hull! No excuses this fall! HH
  4. I'd stay away from the reef fishin and book a deep sea excursion. My experience in the Carribean "reef" fishin was a small boat, out a few hundred yards from shore, lousy equipment and dinky little reef fish. If your down there, spend a few extra bucks and get out onto the big water for REAL fish! HH
  5. Get well soon Gary... although it sounds like your on the right path to recovery! Bass season is still a ways off, so rest up and you'll be boatin them soon enough! HH
  6. I post all my spool's line weight and capacity on my own private web site, which I can access through my "Crackberry" virtually anywhere in southern Ontario. When I need to change up, I consult the all knowing "crack" and pick accordingly from my selection within my dedicated spool box! Ok, now really, I don't have a system. If I'm not sure, I just re-spool! HH
  7. Deano.... Your killin me! HH
  8. Hold on a second, let me just check something... Yup, global warming is here all right! My wallet's getting emptier by the day! HH
  9. "The Pod" stores hundreds of guitar, amp and effect sounds digitally and can be programmed for live gigs or the studio. I beleive it has 20 Marshall sounds (or more), actually every manufacturer I've ever heard of has been sampled (Something like 40 Mesa Boogie sounds, or you can mix up a Fender power head with a HIWATT cabinet, for example). Same with guitars, when for one song you want a single coil, say Strat sound, then you want a Les Paul sound etc... . Pretty cool device and really not that expensive I believe. HH
  10. Thanks Mike! That will certainly say me some installation time! LOL Joey! Cheers all! HH
  11. Joey, I believe that in order to pass a "home inspection", I must have the dryer vented, to code and I believe that you are not allowed to use the plastic piping anymore because of fire hazard? HH
  12. Hey Wayne, maybe Lund's engineers are just to tired from re-designing the fuel system on the ProV and just didn't have enough energy left, to really put their hearts into the design of this boat! I hope they have re-thunk their design change to the Pro V's gas tank, but I doubt it! HH
  13. Hey folks, lookin for some advice here. I know I have to change the venting system on my clothes dryer. I currently have a flexible plastic hose connecting the dryer to the outside. I understand I require a metal pipe these days, just wondering if it must be a ridgid metal pipe or can I use the flexible metal piping I've found at Candian Tire? Thanks all! HH
  14. Blaque, check out "The Pod" for all the sounds you could want an much much more. HH
  15. Here's my take on the point and shoots. I'd choose a few models that I'm interested in, perhaps some of the suggestions you've laready received. I'd then go to a store that sells them and try each one out! My biggest beef with point and shoot cameras is the speed of the processor. In other words, the time it takes between me pushing the "shoot" button, and the camera actually doing it's thing and taking the shot! I find my target has already left, before the camera takes it shot! I'm hoping that the newer ones are much faster than my two year old Nikon. HH PS... Blacks has all of their digital cameras on sale right now and they will price match for three months after purchase.
  16. I'd be alot more upset, if I wasn't so heavily sedated! HH
  17. I know that guitar will match up quite nicely with the 100 watt Marshall Stack you just ordered as well!LOL Neat lookin axe! HH
  18. Pierre Berton's book Vimy is a very interesting read and really talks about how Vimmy Ridge established Canada as a country. HH
  19. Well, you could always "Red Green" it and add duct tape or black electrical tape! Just pretend it's an ice fishin rod!LOL HH
  20. I believe that they do that to the rod seat to increase the sensitivity to the angler. Direct hand contact to the blank is supposed to give you a better feel for light hits and taps. Quantum makes a pretty good rod for the money, heck, you can buy 4 for the price of some of the more expensive rods. I've had my 6.6ft Quamtum jiggin rod for many years, no problems. HH
  21. Guys, our people are there and dying. Let's not let this thread degenerate into a question of whether or not we should be there, but a tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrafice in the service of their country. May they rest in peace and may our country take care of their famliy and friends. Never forget! HH
  22. Well, last time I checked, he hadn't won anything! He's not proven and has no real track record of success that would lead me to believe that he has what it takes to be an elite goalie. Elite goalies win cups for their teams. HH
  23. The Leaf's are in trouble for the next 3 years as they don't have a goal tender who can make the big save, when the team needs it most. Funny enough, I think Ottawa is in the same boat. Goaltending and defense with cups, so I have to say that Buffalo has the advantage. Perhaps the youth of Pittsburg can work to their advantage in a long series and you just can't count out Gary Roberts influence during the playoffs. I really hope that this long playoff drought hits home with MLSE and that the higher up heads roll down Bay street and into the harbour. Carp have to eat to, you know! HH
  24. Zib hit the nail on the head! I suffered back pain for years and after an operation in the mid 90's, it has been mainly good and stable. One of the things I learned from my surgeon was that the body steals required elements from itself, in order to perform what the brain tells it. If you don't drink enough water, the body will "steal" water from areas it preceives as being "non-essential", with one of the biggest areas being our discs. Our discs are made up of material which is similar to crab meat in texture. When the body is starved for water, it will draw water from your discs and cause you limitless trouble. The discs become more "brittle" and will quickly degenerate. Keep you fluids up, proper exercise and posture and you will be off to a great start. HH
  25. Hey Lew, you've been given a great deal of good advice here on Dipsey set ups. If I may make a suggestion re: your Spring Quinte trip? Don't bother with Dipsey's on Quinte, atleast not in the Spring! I personally didn't get a fish on Dipsey's last year on Quinte and a guide buddy of mine didn't get one all year on Dipsey's! Your best bet for Quinte, that time of year would be to keep a close eye on water temps, look for warmer water entering deeper cold water areas (bay mouths) and troll these edges. Remember to down size your baits, nothing over 1/2 an oz., with 3/8oz being ideal. Try and keep that bait no more than a foot off the bottom and hold on! If I was going to invest in a rod for Quinte and many other applications, I'd look to Lead Core as a more effective and dynamic method of presentation. As for in-line planers, I only use mono, 20lb. After you've learned how your rod reacts, you'll know if a fish is on, it just takes practice. I've seen too many fish lost on braid as there is no forgiveness. Just rip the hooks right out. Mono, is far more forgiving. (I'm only talkin Pickeral here) I don't leave my clicker on, with a loose drag, to indicate a fish on. I watch my line, MY BOARD, and how they are reacting to the conditions. It takes practice and some experimentation, but you will learn and be a better angler. HH
