I am not surprised that the blue bery pancake mix was good... many native Canadian cultures employ blue berry's in every meal... traditionally. I would expect some to like it and some to not. I have always enjoyed a pike meal, especially if the fish was caught during cold water periods. I prefer the following: -salt and garlic powder on the fillets, in the fridge for a couple of hours -dip in flour, then egg wash then Japanese style bread crumbs (Panko) -fry in hot oil... yum yum! HH

Had a blast as usual guys! The highlights as I see them... 1. Friday night is Gerritt's night to cook... he decides to make a family recipe called "Sophisticated Meat balls". So he has pre-made 5 lbs of ground beef into fist sized meat balls! He adds them to the biggest stock pot Bernie has in the kitchen... then he adds 10 pounds of Kraft Cream cheese, and what looked like 10 cans of Cream of Mushroom soup and in the oven for some time to get everyting moving... served on a bed of noodles! I've asked Gerritt to let me know next time he expect to make this dish, I'll be buying stock in Kraft foods! (Yah, I ate 5 meatballs! LOL) 2. Fishin was tough, but I still laugh at the one Pickereye I caught Friday evening... drilled a hole in what would have been 5ft of water, but when you have almost 2ft of ice, I was actually only fishin just under 3 feet of water!I got a bite, set the hook and reeled up, only to have the hook come out! A little disapointed, I looked down the hole and who is staring back a me, Mr. Pickereye! It seems that I had reeled it up the ice! The hole was not big enough for the fish to turn and head back down, so I ripped my glove off, grabbed it by the head and flipped it onto the ice! Would have amde a great pic, of me staring down the hole only to have the Pickereye staring back at me! LOL 3. Really glad you could make it Cliff! 4. Will, can we stop for a smoke! 5. Bernie, thanks for outfitting me in the bunky! Best sleep I've had in a long time! Can't wait till the spring! I beg to differ with you topic heading though... you didn't really learn a new trick, you simply applied an old trick taught to you by someone in your life. that trick taught you to work hard and that those efforts will reqward you! Ok... maybe that's a new trick for some, but I would be willing to bet it's a characteristic of you, that has been around for as long as you have. Again, congrats! HH

I am hearing way to much "I can't/I won't coming from someone who really does want to succeed! The attitude I am reading the O.P's posts does not ring positive at all... yes you may be frustrated, you may feel that the world is against you, but you will simply turn off any and all potential employers with the negativity, whether it's real or only a perception. As you can see from this thread, there are many in similar situations as your, with substancially more on the line than you... 1. whining on a fishing board is a waste of time 2. the phone book is your friend... use it 3. the word "no" should not be in your current vocabulary 4. look into gov. sponsored education programs 5. take any job you can get as you are much more employable when you are working than when you are not 6. look at any and all available opportunties locally within the various levels of government 7. CUT THE CHORD! HH

Doc, Get some Freezes and pop them in the freezer... the little ones, not the big ones... give'm to the kid... un-opened! They can't chew throught the plastic and will give relief Toast some bagels, cut them up into bite size wedges and freeze them... give'm to the kid Get a soft wash cloth, soak it with water and freeze it in a zip lock bag... give it to the kid... All this will pass, but these remedy's don't require any chemicals for your child. HH PS... a rubber mallet will not leave a mark... just sayin!

My wife and I stayed there for a week about 10 years ago... -Yes, they pick you up at the Key River Marina and run you out to the island...they charge you for this btw - if you have your own boat, you can get there and via the Key River... I would suggest getting the nautical charts if you are going to do this... there are two routes out... one takes you right out to the open water of G-Bay, which can be dicey if there is any wind at all... the other route takes you through the island chain and is clearly marked, but again can be a bit dicey if you are not familiar with the area. The camp is located on some small islands and is powered by an generator to provide the guests power.. generator runs from 7:00am to 11:00pm if I recall correctly. The owner was friendly, the camp "helper" was annoying... They rent boats, flat bottom steel boats that will handle the local waters but I wouldn't venture far out in the open water of G-Bay in them... They offer satelite phone for their guests... the cottages are ok for fisherman, but I would suggest that you ask for one of the newer cottages as the legacy cottages are small and all tucked together pretty close. The entire network of cottages are connected by walk ways and decking as the island is not really flat enough to walk on... For me, fishing was a little tough... we were there in late August and you had to work to find fish. Never made it to the Bustards, could see them, but too much big water for my little rental boat... Lots of places to fish and the area is covered with scattered islands... With regard to the French River mouth... it's nothing more than a small stream and waterfall, barely accessible by boat... most fish that we caught and heard of being caught were found in bays that had easy access to big deep water. I did well pitchin cranks... Pm me if you need any more info... HH *****EDIT*** - I just remembered that we actually didn't launch out of Key River... that is their normal pick up site, but because of low water levels, we actually we met and picked up in Britt, on Byng Inlet... soory for that... they say the first thing to go in your memory.... what was I talking about again!?....

Nice report! I'd say that you learned something, you got some fish, you got some eats, but most importantly, you made a new fishin friend... to my mind, that's the greatest accomplishment of this report! Congrats! HH

I've been a huge Who fan for years and frankly I think they should have hung them up 20 years ago... Roger hasn't been able to hit any of the high notes since 1976, Who are you. Pete should focus on his solo work. Funny, but this morning I had quite a few people saying that they didn't know that The Who wrote the theme song to CSI! Uhmm... song was recorded in 1970 folks! As a huge legacy Who fan, I would like to see them wrap up their careers on a somewhat "high" note, turn in their union jack blazers and retire on their laurels! The band died when Moon died in 78! HH

Love The Who! Been a fan for many many years, unfortunately once Entwistle died, well, the band died for me as well! Well Lloyd, firstly, I feel for yah buddy! Loosing that stuff, which you've grown so accustomed to must be a real disappointment. That being said, I'm sure you could use one of Terry's rods as we all know he'll have no real use for more than one. Heck, he could leave tham all at home and still have the same level of success as previous years! HH

I beleive that using a half and half Williams spoon to shave with, qualifies it as a fishing related post! Then there is always the user control option on your keyboard/mouse that allows you to not click on a thread. HH

Testicles of a Newfoundland midget hurt and ached almost all the time. The midget went to the doctor and told him about his problem.. The doctor told him to drop his pants and he would have a look. The midget dropped his pants. The doctor stood him up onto the examining table, and started to examine him. The doctor put one finger under his left testicle and told the midget to turn his head and cough, the usual method to check for a hernia. "Aha!" mumbled the doctor, and as he put his finger under the right testicle, he asked the midget to cough again. "Aha!" said the doctor once more, and reached for his surgical scissors. Snip-snip-snip-snip on the right side..........then snip-snip-snip-snip on the left side. The midget was so scared he was afraid to look, but noted with amazement that the snipping did not hurt. The doctor then told the midget to walk around the examining room to see if his testicles still hurt. The midget was absolutely delighted as he walked around and discovered his boys were no longer aching. The doctor said," How does that feel now?" The midget replied, "Perfect Doc, and I didn't even feel it. What did you do? The doctor replied "I cut two inches off the top of your rubber boots." HH
