  1. You have quite simply, a "Stupid" smart meter! I don't think anyone here or anywhere is a fan of them!
  2. Pull them apart, check them out, if something doesn't look right replace them...actually, just replace the bearings and races and keep the old ones after you have repacked them as spares, just in case. Better safe than sorry!!
  3. Nope, don't mind it at all! However I can feel for those that depend on ice and snow for income and I do have concerns for the environment if it continues too long.
  4. Way to go! Your almost there! 2012 will see it gone. Keep up the battle.
  5. Yep I agree, and a lot easier to follow and tons more entertaining then that other post about editing.
  6. Amaranth, Tassel flower; Amaranthus That would be the one. Probably a sub species of that, Purple Amaranth. Such a strange looking plant.
  7. "> Do you see the resemblance? I have no idea what the plant is but they produce 1000's of tiny seeds and since they drive my neighbour nuts I always let a few of them prosper in different locations in the garden. They will grow to about 6' tall, have large very deep maroon leaves and some of them will even look more like S.S Bob than this one. They come up from seed and were growing here when we bought the house and were obviously planted by the previous owner. If anyone knows the name please let me know. Thanks.
  8. Mercman, you are generous to a fault. Your staff should consider themselves fortunate. Solopaddler: I work with a Muslim guy, he goes to the Christmas party every year, he enjoys it and feels that we all have our choice to follow your own culture and except that it is not just a religious holiday anymore but one of celebration. That said, his wife never attends the company party nor does she go to the small one our department has for ourselves but he does. And in answer to the question, yes this year my wife and I are going, last year no, year before yes and the first year at this company we didn't go and just as well. The entertainment was a bunch of guys in drag doing impersonations. The store where I work has a party partly funded by the company with the rest of the money coming from the social commitee. There will be a meal, dance, treats and prizes with the top being $1000. Hope I win it, I just forked out 200 bucks so my wife can have something to wear and 20 bucks for her to go (my entry is free.) Guess I'll have to wear a T shirt and jeans....
  9. #2. Lived that thought too many times to remember
  10. If it is a torsion spring, that is the type located at the top of the door I wouldn't touch it. Let a pro do it. If it has coil springs located on the side of the door then you could do it yourself. Home depot in Can. carrys one size only of coil spring for garage doors, at the store I work at, Ancaster, they are located at the end of aisle 18 in the hardware dept. under the storm door and garage door parts. The DIY doors we sell (8' & 9' wide) do not come with a torsion spring because of the danger for a DIY application, some do though come with a certain type of tortion spring that is wound with an electric drill. If a double door is ordered it apparantly does come with a torsion spring. If in doubt don't cheap out and put your safety at risk, call a garage door guy. ....oh yeah, like Billy Bob said
  11. Saw that in the C.T flyer. It made me laugh then remember back about 7 years ago when we were looking into opening a juice bar and we were researching high power blaenders. This one must be at the top of the heap and it's cheaper then a Vitamix or a blentec! Just can't run that one indoors.
  12. Sorry, I misunderstood thought you were crossing to do a job of somesort. But still choose your words with care. Some of them think they carry the power of God. Then others are have a good day and enjoy your stay, go figure
  13. If your paperwork to work in the States is not in order keep your mouth zipped as to the reason for entering. We got grilled once a long time ago for crossing in a car that was lettered with our companies name when we were crossing for a weekend get away. My son got grilled even further not too long ago when he was asked why he was crossing and he told them he was trying out for a basketball team in Erie PA. Finaly after over an hour one of the custom guards told the other to let him go, he's only trying out for the team and not yet going there to work or there for money. BTW...he never did need to apply for a visa after the tryouts...
  14. Sorry to hear Mike. Keep your memories close to the heart and a seat on the boat for him on your future days of fishing.
  15. NP Billy, years ago I couldn't figure out why I couldn't find Canadian Bacon in the stores? Heard about it on the TV but couldn't get it. Wondered what the hell it looked like and thought wow! It must be really really special! Then I found out from my mother that C.Bacon and back bacon were the same thing, man I felt like an idiot. A few years ago I read an article about it and the previous post I made sums it up.
  16. Actualy Billy we didn't call it Canadian Bacon, the Brits named it in the war. The rations were sent overseas and nobody knew what to call it so the term Canadian Bacon was coined and it stuck. What is the one thing Canadian you can buy in the states that you can't find here? Or at least rarely, Canadian Bacon. Go figure eh. Up here we call it back bacon.
  17. Knew a fellow years ago that owned a fish and chip shop back in th 60's. Said that every time they changed the shortening in the fryer he'd toss a whole onion in and fry it to the point of just about burning it and this would "flavour the oil."
  18. Did I hear you say that you need some help to clean up around the house? Kinda nice getting old sometimes eh Lew, around every corner is a surprise! That is a nice find, enjoy the money
  19. You have a PM,
  20. Yes! Or as you said, a hip roof. The other style is a gable end. Probably cheaper to build with a gable end?
  21. Normally harbour fish are OK to eat, I have never though. The sign you have shown above was a warning during the algae bloom, it happens every year. The bloom however is long over and the person who is to take the signs down more than likely hasn't got around to it yet.
  22. Holy Crap! You found light bulbs that were actually made here! I looked in several stores a few weeks ago and could only find Chineses bulbs and gave in. Yes the canned fruit even with Dole or DelMonte labels is from China, we no longer buy it. And not only that but Bicks Pickles is about to close in Dunnville, Bicks will now be made offshore. Speaking of that, have you noticed that a lot of pickles come from India now? I won't buy those either. Check this out puddicombs Winona They have began to sell their version of Perry which is a pear cider from Wales. I bought a 6 pack of it a few weeks ago. First sip was hmmm, second was this is different, third sip and the bottle was gone. Pretty dam good stuff. The reason why they have developed their own? To use up the pears that are no longer going to the fruit canners because they all are buying their fruit in China and Puddicombe wanted to do something with the fruit. Two thumbs up to them for trying when big business turned their backs on them. Let me recount a conversation I heard when visiting an aunt in Florida many years ago when her neighbour paid a visit. He said, "I wanted to buy an American made car, won't buy foreign, so I buy a new Plymouth. Turns out the rotten thing is made in Canada! Am I ever P'd off!" I still chuckle at that even years later. Buy homemade as often as you can. Funny thing BigUgly, I started a thread about this a few years ago and got slammed for encouraging people to buy products from our own shores because I "Couldn't see the bigger picture of open trading." I hope that this thread will endure as you intended.
  23. My best wishes to both of them Dave. Let's hope your father can keep it all together and holds up under the pressure and the surgury all turns out better than A1.
  24. You're right on Smally. H.D thickest is .118 not thick enough for what he needs. The rest of what you said is good advise also.
