Left on Boxing Day for a trip to Finland and Sweden and I was amazed that the landscape is very similar to Ontario. Lots of granite, lakes and forests. But there are no hardwoods and that is why this axe is likely awesome in Finland, but would have a tough time with our oaks, maples, ash and elm.

The main difference between Screech and Saw Whet is Screech Owls have pointed ear tufts (like the Great Horned) that are often raised. The Saw Whet does not have ear tufts. What really surprises me is you have robins?

Keep in mind that all fish that are keepers are property of the crew but they filet and give you plenty of fish to take back to your resort for your own consumption. 94.9 also has the Marsden Theatre on Saturday and Sunday nights. For those, like myself, who enjoyed "The Spirit of Radio" back in the day listening to David Marsden on 94.9 is a trip down memory lane with lots of great music and the usual Marsden banter. Likely not the same as the spring. The spring was compounded by the snow melt that happened when the rains came.

Hi Bass Trap, the walleye fishing this spring was excellent and right now it's OK but it's the summer and it traditionally slows down. We have had our most success at dusk and believe it or not around 10 - 11 am. Early in the season we found minnow imitating baits the best option, Lucky Strike Pointers are my favourite but X-Raps were also producing. Now worms are working, and no fancy presentations. One thing that is really noticeable this year is the amount of minnows, I have never seen so many, especially in back bays that we are flipping for largemouth. Even though I have not tried this method, I might this weekend but if you find a back bay with minnows, and it's hard not to, just troll the edge at dusk and into the dark with baits that are similar size. I suspect the walleye are cruising these bays because it would sure be easy pickings for them. Enjoy Pine Grove, never been there but have heard they are nice people and the resort looks nice. A couple in the family. No issues with freeze up of pipes or water jacket if unit inoperative in the winter as the liquid is antifreeze based. They both run to the duct system in the house and also heat a shop as well. The shops have the pipes woven in the floor pad and then concrete poured so that the slab is kept warm all winter long.

There is no such thing as an ownership or pink slip for a pleasurecraft (boat). Boat have to registered or licensed and only if they are 10 hp or above a (from Transport Canada's Website) : A licence or registration is mandatory for all pleasure craft equipped with motors of 10 horsepower (7.5 kilowatts) or more, including personal watercraft, which are principally maintained or operated in Canada. You submit photo ID with the registration form from the link I provided above. You will receive in the mail a copy of the registration with your name and the pleasurecraft information filled out, including the numbers. I know there is a fine for not having the numbers properly displayed but I have yet to see or hear of anyone being fined for not having their papers in the boat. That doesn't mean it hasn't happened, I would suggest keeping a copy of the registration in your boat and a copy in safe keeping. They are now only good for 10 years (anyone else sniff another licensing fee or tax on the way), and it's up to you to contact TC if you move. If you sell the registered pleasurecraft then it's up to the new owner to fill out a form and submit it. There is no fine for not having proof of ownership in any craft that is powered by a 9.9 or below including kayaks, paddle boats or canoes.

Congrats on achievements, some demons are hard to kick. Many have tried and failed.

This is the reason I suggested Wright Point Resort. Big sand beach that faces southwest for sunsets over the water. Lots of kids toys on the beach also has volleyball net. The beach has an enclosed (roped off) swimming area that has a very large floating island with a kid launcher. The launcher is at one end and a kid sits on it, then someone from the trampoline part of the island jumps to the opposite end of the launcher and you go flying up in the air an into the water. I am not affiliated with the resort but my cottage is close to it. There are usually families with kids up every week in the summer so the opportunity to make friendship with other families is possible. This place is geared toward families with kids. The fishing for walleye, pike and bass is pretty good.

Totals for this year - 48 taps installed producing approximately 1200 litres of sap. I completed 4 boils in total, producing approx. 30 litres of syrup. First 2 boils were light syrup, the third boil was medium and the fourth boil was amber to dark. For our area this was an excellent year for sap and syrup producers are happy with their yields. Hopefully supply and demand principles will adjust the high prices from last year in order to help consumers. For me, making syrup is a rite of spring that I originally started in 2005 and have enjoyed with my kids, I now share the enjoyment with my neighbours and their kids since moving into the town of Elmvale.

A lot of producers will be in Elmvale on Saturday for the Maple Syrup Festival. Last year they were looking for around $70/gallon, the price may be a little lower due to this year's bumper crop.
