  1. Unless something has changed this year this is not an option for ice fishing. When the Ministry reorganized the zones a couple years back moving Caribou to zone 11 it closed off lake trout north of 522 till Feb 15 which really limited their ice fishing so they stopped. I would contact them first to confirm.
  2. Thanks for sharing this. I have a Canon i960 that I use and ordered 14 cartridges at just over $50 including shipping. Staples sells these cartridges for around $15 each so I am way ahead.
  3. I was in Belleville a couple years back for a hockey tournament and my wife and I had a craving for Pho. We went to Pho Viet and it was really good. Comparable to many we have been to in the GTA.
  4. I acquired a taste for Chinese Food when I lived at Spadina and College 25 years ago. I can never turn down a good Dim Sum restaurant and love BBQ pork and duck. I am not a huge fan of mainstream Chinese restaurants and love going back to the old stomping grounds and visiting the restaurants. I also love Vietnamese food, roti and Japanese cuisine.
  5. After using my cousin's side by side with tracks last year I decided to get a set for my quad. Just put them on this past weekend and now looking forward to some back lake action.
  6. Plumbers A/F from now on. Had to replace livewell pumps 3 years ago due to crack from freezing.
  7. Now that they have concluded that Nipissing is fished out, I wonder where the nets will be placed?
  8. Without question if you plan on ice fishing and plowing get a set of tracks. Last year I had use of a machine with tracks and this year I purchased the Camplast Tatou 4S for my TRV500. And if you're going to plow with an ATV you have to stay on top of the snow accumulation, it won't move a large capacity of snow. You're better off with a blower if that's the case.
  9. You will want to use plumbing antifreeze if you are using it in a cottage during the winter. No risk of pets and there is no smell to the carnge and no cannibalism due to falling on the ice and staying there for an extended period of time.
  10. Just picked up a Garmin GPSmap 62S from Kijiji Boutique and would like to load some maps. I would be using this in Ontario for hunting and also on my ATV while ice fishing back lakes. I am looking for advice on the use of the unit as well as suggested maps to download.
  11. The first one comes with a story. The first year we bought our cottage my son and his buddy were fishing off the back of my boat and my son proceeded to embed a treble from a Spook into the back of his buddy's head on a cast. We now call that spot "Hook-Head Point". Here are a couple more: Hungry Bay Bucket Bay The Merry-Go-Round Flag Pole Shoal The Duck Shoal The Toad Shoal The Outlet
  12. Don't get me wrong, what happen to this boat is a crime and those who did this should have to pay. As for compliance, there is a grey area for some but if your mandate is to generate revenue then there is no grey area, they label it "Zero Tolerance". So for the people that I know who have been fined for having a floating flashlight with dead batteries or a life jacket with a slight tear in a seam or being 15' from their dock in a paddleboat in 3' of water and not having a safety kit I would say that it's for the sheer objective of raising revenue and in no way the public safety. And you're right they are out there to do their job only, it's not like they're telling us who we should or should not vote for.
  13. The comment theme in the article is similar to here. People are tired of the OPP's charade of using public safety as the catalyst for handing out fines. I believe that some of their work is for the good of all us, just not all of their work.
  14. There were only 4 water/alcohol deaths last year, but total water fatalities are not down. Good news is people have realized that water and booze don't mix. The bad news is we are always going to have accidents and people are going to die.
  15. Yep and they used the same arguement in 1997 when the Lake Wahwashkesh Conservation Association was succesful in closing off the lake. Their angle was to apply to the MNR about creating a temporary fish sanctuary on the entire lake from Dec 1 to the middle of May due to the lack of lake trout. Ice fishing is still closed and and that has not changed. The fishing pressure on the Kawarthas is greater then it's ever been. The stocks cannot naturally keep up with the pressure. I don't care how many spawing beds are rehabilitated, they can't keep up. The way I see it is they have 2 options (inside joke), first support the fishery with a massive stocking program. Many of the local stakeholders should support the program, with either resources or funds. Option #2 would be to run the Kawarthas in the same way as some of the ZEC's in Quebec are run, after a certain amount of fishing pressure the lakes are closed off to fishing.
  16. The public had till May 20 to provide any input. And of course input as solicited by the MNR means do you agree with option 1 or option 2. You could send in an email with your input, however there is no "comment section" when it comes to MNR requesting input.
  17. Yep, won't be long: http://www.ebr.gov.on.ca/ERS-WEB-External/displaynoticecontent.do?noticeId=MTIyMTQx&statusId=MTgzMDYz&language=en
  18. It's a bass lake. There are walleye in Canning or Kashagawigamog which are very close to South.
  19. Walleye spawn is on right now on the Upper Pickeral River. The Argyle Fish and Game club started to net spawners for their hatchery on Saturday. Season opens May 17th so the spawn will be over by then.
  20. I hit sap fest this morning with my daughter. Greenlaws/McLarens make great syrup, I always purchased their product prior to doing my own. It was a good crowd despite the showers and cool temps.
