Here is another link to access the survey, and also the Zone councils, there is the science part of the study, to give you honest data, and not what is sometimes perceived regarding the proposed changes to the Bass season in 17, ontario.ca/zonecouncils will get you where you need to be, and click on the Zone thats of interest, ie the surveys in Zone 17
-
The study also took into effect, Bass tournaments, and the increased pressure of them on bodies of water such as the Kawarthas, and there is minimal effect, other then the weekend pressure on the body of water, meaning the tournament organizers are doing it right, and mortality in Bass tournaments is really a non-issue for the larger publisized tournaments, and the Kawarthas are a fine example where Bass tournaments happen on these waters every weekend, and fishing is still excellent.

Councils goal with the MNR is to open up angling opportunites for the public, but MOST important is having minimal to no impact on the resourse, and with science showing us that Bass are spawning earlier, and therefore the natal protection period for Bass is also moved up as well, and finished earlier because of the trend of increased water temps during that period, moving the season to the 3rd Saturday in June fits in with councils mandate.

The online survey is up for FMZ17, and the proposed change to move the start of the Bass season, to the 3rd Saturday in June from the 4th Saturday in June, the link is fmz17survey.ca, for anyone interested.

Done long ago Ron, please fill out the survey folks, fishing spots that are taken away, are usually taken away forever, help out Ron in his very worthwhile cause for both youth and adults alike. Kudos to you Ron, as weve seen when you sets your sites on something you follow it through to completion, and we hope the end results will be positive.

Seen Levon Helm at the Pines in Bridgenorth, and it is truly said to see these legends disappear, one of the greatest bands that ever formed and played, although it was much too short, and the Last Waltz was a legendary performance, with great artist, and was tyhe end of an era for the BAND

Sinker has nailed it bang on, there has been lots of discussion and whining about the 2 fish steelhead lake limit on this board and others, now is the time to show and and voice your opinion, I will be leaving Peterborough at 5:00pm, and I hope to see as much support at the meeting tonight, as weve seen on the discussion boards, also there is strong support, and scientific data for increased angling opportunities for Bass in Zone 20, and also increasing the size limit for Muskellunge in Zone 20 to 54 inches from 48 inches, which includes the St. Lawrence River to Quebec in the east, to the Niagara River in the west, to help protect remaining trophy muskie stocks that were devistated a few years back from VHS on the Larry. -

For those who wanted a 2 fish lake limit for steelhead now is the time to show your support, I talked to Marc Desjardine who is the chair of the Zone 20 council, and there was strong support for the 2 fish limit, although he was somewhat dumbfounded at the lack of response from the steelhead community who are generally very passionate about their sport, there was just over 100 responses and only 2 were against it. Which is rather dismal as that many steelheaders could be on any of the creeks during the weekend. New reg changes to the muskie fishery and Bass fishery will also be on the ajenda, but was previously mentioned in another thread. -
How many Walleye are harvested by cottagers at night on rivers and lakes where walleyes live and spawn? no one knows but it is likely comparable in many instances, i do not see or hear people complaining about that, the right to fish and hunt for there personal use and cerimonial purposes is in their constitution, from treaties ie the Williams treaty signed many years ago. I have Native Status (Ojibway) and I do buy a fishing licence, as i hope the MNR will use it for the resourse, as all of us do. I do pay taxes as I am an off reserve native, as many of us are. I have no problems with Natives harvesting fish or game for rights stated within their treaty, remember Natives were hear long before the European Settlers, who could in fact be classed as an invasive species.

Carpus Maximus, a great specimen indeed

Years ago we use to exterminate murderers by capital punishment, now we look after them, feed them, entertain them with TV, allow them excercise time. Years ago we never had methadone clinics, and social programs, welfare, mother allowance etc, now we have people making a living off of it, for multiple generations, people use to take pride in themselves, children use to respect there elders and the place they call home. Years ago we never had to bail out companies from mis-management ie GM and Chrysler, we lived with pride, worked with pride and made an honest living. Now if your under 54 you have to work till 67 to collect old age pension, you came blame it on the above, Goverments spend millions of taxpayers money blaming each other for the countries problems, instead of working together to fix it, while they line there pockets with our hard earned dollars. The taxpayer like myself is tired of paying for others peoples mistakes in life, its time they suck it up and make a better life for themselves.
