Cousin bought a cottage on Rice lake!
esoxansteel replied to cityfisher's topic in General Discussion
A Trent Severn chart of Rice lake also would be a must, all those baits are great choices, but a lake chart will help to shorten the learning curve, and he will have 3 to 4 months to study it before the ice turns to water, also ice fishing for panfish is open, and he can mark productive spots on the map in pencil of course, as hot spot do change. -
Ron makes one hell of a great Ceasar too or Seizures just watch he doesnt throw bananas in your boat. makes great double ski planer boards as well, congradulations to both of you for helping to make a father and sons day.
-
By the way, most important congradulations on your 1st of many more to come, and a great report,

x2 what Mike said, I use shimano tecotas line counters with shimano TDR rods model 1804 8ft hvy rod is around 40.00 althouigh their cheaper by the dozen

Mike the one the fish hit is as natural as it comes, with no paint just the red cedar and the cedar smell to boot. their will definately be more clones of that one, and the 6oz of lead, to keep the bait in the zone longer, might leave the hooks off that one and use it to pre-fish the MCI outings LOL

Have been busy making cedar and pine jerkbait and deep diving blanks, water tested 3 weighted jerkbaits and also water tested 4 deep diver shad style baits as well 2 with aluminum lips and 2 with lexan lips, they worked great, and no tuning is required, now comes the envirotex and the paints and hardware etc had a musky rip the jerkbait off shore and no hooks were on it, so theirs some extra sanding to get the teeth marks out, have 18 other blanks to finish and i hope they will work right off the hop as well

Lew you havnt got any Legend Plows stashed away somewhere do you? preferably perch fire belly, or black perch?
-
Nice report Mike, been arking custom colorados through the runs for may years, if conditions are right, and yes the strikes are incredible, also enjoy bringing out the fly rod, and free drifting the runs as well with both roe and colorados as well, nice to take a step back in time, to remember how we used to catch chrome before long rods and pins

47 to 48 degrees on sunday as well, dont think it will change much
-
The secrets out and the bait is no secret anymore, Jon you should have a disclaimer with those baits, as the hits are not for someone with a weak ticker

I am fully for re-establishing a species that once called Lake O home, as well as any other body of water, or land animal as well, unfortunately people have different objectives on what they want from the reintroduction, I see success with the Atlantic program, and Jons sitings and angler catches back that up, with returns going up each year, as more Atlantics are introduced by stocking and natural reproduction, those numbers should continue to rise, to the satisfaction of the people involved with the program, who have realistic goals, and measure successes differently then the masses, Keep up the great work to all groups involved
-
I hope Jons melting rubber as we speak, cause Bondy Baits will be flying off the shelves, why waste money going to a gym to workout, buy some Bondys and go jigging, youll have arms like popeye in no time, and you wont have to eat spinach

Cover the water trolling, imagine how much more water you will cover going 3.5 or higher then going 2mph. Dax is bang on, dont be afraid to look deep, and occasionally make bottom contact banging over deep water humps etc hopefully you have a GPS to help you put together a trolling pattern, with track lines you can follow back on if you contact fish good luck

fish was just over 48 without a tail pinch, and a 19 inch girth I was most intriqued that the fish was seen 2 days prior, and today been relatively slow fish wise, decided to return to that fish during a peak solurable time(moon rise) and she decided it was time 2 eat, and also after over a hour a successful release was achieved, i have caught a few that were larger, but that was one if not the most memorable one, the so called plan coming together.

We already have enough 2 legged imbreds, now were stocking imbred fish as well, no wonder their not working

On monday I went muskie fishing, and had a very large fish, show herself throwing a pounder bulldog, she followed lazily behind, and slowly buggered off as i went into a figure eight, i repeated another cast with a walleye colored jerkbait that i make, and she came again with more interest, and speed, and i got her to follow a wide figure eight for 2 turns and then she lost interest, went back today and had one small fish and 2 follows for my efforts, assuming that the fish was still in the vicinity, i showed back up 15 minutes before moon-rise, and caught her 5 minutes after moon-rise, on a pounder bulldog, she completely engulfed the bulldog, and i could only see the leader, assuming that this was gone to be tough to extract the hooks, the knipex cutters made short work out of the extraction, well worth the 50.00, the fish was exhausted, and even with the 47 degree water temp, i spent 50 minutes with my hands in the water holding the musky upright until she had the strenght to remain upright herself, i then watched her for another half hour swim upright but on the surface, she finally had enough of that, and with one tail flick, waved goodby, with muskies been a top end predator in most waters, they are very delicate and expend alot of energy during battle, sometimes it just takes longer to revive the fish before release, it is time well spent.

Nice looking roe bags Aaron, i tied up a bunch as well, and gave them out last night to the trick or treaters

Peterborough is my home town, through work ive lived in Mississauga in the early 80s, then Orillia in the mid 80s, and back to Peterborough in the late 80s and been their ever since. like the John Denver tune ( thats good to be back home again) fishing opportunities are endless for many different species, unemployment rate is just over 11% higher then the national average, make sure you have something lined up job wise before you make the move, social problems as in other cities is on the rise, ie drugs, poverty, transients, panhandling etc. The shape of Peterborough has changed over the past 4 decades, with good paying manufacturing jobs in decline, in exchange for a service hub to Oshawa and GTA areas, as it is cheaper to live hear and commute or car pool to work in Derham or GTA, as they live hear and play hear, we are picking up the lower pay food service jobs etc, and because of a university and college in the city, rental properties are still expensive. In otherewards Peterborough is still a great place to reside, and the positives far out-weigh the negatives, plus we have Kawartha Dairy ice-cream and Rich can tell you how good that is, in fact all of his fishing posts would not be complete without a shot of him mowing down on his favorite ice-cream. Worth the move to Peterborough alone

Amazing quote from windsor police chief
esoxansteel replied to jedimaster's topic in General Discussion
Re the Registry, police when responding to domestics, drug houses etc, should always assume their weapons involved, and should act accordingly, they shouldnt rely on the gun registry to make the call for them, criminals do NOT register their guns, and stolen guns which may have been registered soon have the serial numbers filed, what a waste of money,
