  1. Good fishing. Sun burns are better than winter wind-burns haha
  2. Those Lake O lakers have huge bellies. I gotta get my butt down there some day for that kind of action.
  3. Makes me think I should be trying out my river soon. Nice first specks of 2014
  4. Great little report! Looks and sounds like a damn nice place to fish!
  5. Just came back from a maple syrup festival myself. Looks like a perfect Saturday morning, even though the weather wasn't great.
  6. Ya great colors on that fish. Full respect for spoon chuckers, I'll be one of them in a few weeks! Can't wait for some of my yearly bow action.
  7. Good job Keith... Keith for Minister of Natural Resources!!!
  8. Good start to the warm weather season!
  9. With the huge reduction in moose tags, I think the addition of the spring bear hunt was pre-planned to give additional opportunities ...I don't see this changing no matter those bored, desperate for meaning in life animal rights groups are pushing. Common sense and canadian tradition will survive this attack imo.
  10. If no one 'claims' their hut, wouldn't it then be public property as it's on a public waterway... kind of like a cached canoe on crown land. What I'm getting at is, the day after the deadline, you should be allowed to claim whatever hut suits your fancy and the owner would have forfeited their ownership.
  11. overcooked the crap out of it haha. It was too small to properly measure the temp/hydrometer so I just eyed it out... well, I didn't eye it out well. Tasted horrible and burned and stuck to the pan exactly as you'd imagine it would. Might have been 1/2 to 1 litre.
  12. I like that setup; looks like the skeleton of an old oil tank..? I finally got some useable syrup last night, maybe 1 litre. I ruined my first batch haha. The syrup is getting dark now and I learned a lot this year, can't wait to have a better setup next year.
  13. A guy I know lives off the grid and uses a wind turbine and solar to power his entire place. His place is worthy of anyones envy, but that wind mill, so close to his house, would drive me crazy! I see a chickadee move and my eye catches it; a constantly moving windmill would be a huge sensory distraction for me...never been a fan of wind turbines just based on the aesthetics. Having said that, I support the effort of diversifying our power and not always relying on mining or oil-gas. It's good to support different sectors of the economy. I don't know enough to say whether we are going overboard or not or if the Gov completely mis-managed the system, but in theory, diversifying our power reliance is a good thing. I don't like trailer parks being too close to me, but they are the best option for low-income housing and the property owner can make a decent return on investment. Occupy Queens Park has found this thread too hahaha
  14. $1.24 - $1.29 in North Bay today. Lineups.
  15. Was wondering how you guys were doing. Things shut down for me... I'm better off just planning for next year haha.
  16. 1.24 in North Bay. For some reason we have some of the lowest prices around this year.
  17. can't see the pics, but I did that a couple years ago closer to Mattawa. It's not everyday you get to see 10 feet of riverbed from a major water system!
  18. Great pics. Looks like you guys had the lake to yourselves.

  20. If you are going to drive that much on the hwy, look at a cherokee trailhawk. Its amazing on-road, gets 27mpg (mine is) and will tackle nearly all off-road situations. Dont pay attention to the nay-sayers, its an awesome vehicle. I've had mine 3months, 26,000kms and love this thing.
  21. Between work and at home, you are gonna be a maple-syrup expert in no time at all! I'm doing a mini-boil in my kitchen tonight. I just want enough to put some on snow like I did as a kid...the wife has never tried that, so it'll be fun! So far I've collected about 15l from my 7 trees. Only one tap is filling the bucket, the others are much slower. I'm learning alot about the trees and forest maintenance; lots of plans for this summer! I found out that if a tree has a massive curv/branch-off it doesn't make a good syrup tree.
