  1. INdependent is quite expensive ... Go to bay meats (better meat too), just as 'on your way' as the grocery store.
  2. Bay meats (used to be Bavarian meats) on Wallace Rd. close to Highway 11/17 is pretty much the only option.(705) 476-1830 ()‎ Or, if you are passing by Verner/Sturgeon Falls, go to creative meats.
  3. A couple packs of green jell-o powder and the neighbor may not even notice.
  4. Where me and the wife went fishing the other day, I saw the most mosq's I've ever seen. Kinda weird. Maybe the bat population does have something to do with it. Or many it's just ripe conditions for those evil flies. Blackflies are essentially peaking around North Bay, it seems. A couple or more weeks and they'll be in the memory bank.
  5. More like, find the intersection of the many deer highways! Still need to get you over for a visit and ATV ride. Your giving me way too much credit. I can swing axes and wedges and lift things up and put them down, but an actual craftsman I am not. Plus I'm trying to make a bit to $ to help pay for a certain Nipigon trip...
  6. Got 15 large rails from the base section. 3-4 hours of work and I'm still learning. The next section was knotted up badly and my two wedges are burried in the log. I'll take another hour this week and try to do a bit more.
  7. I've got a fee big cedars, but not enough to harvest in any way. I'll be milling some spruce here soon.
  8. I get so warm doing the work that I travel the ATV with the lightest clothing possible haha
  9. I've been eyeing-out a couple large, fresh-fallen cedars on my property. Finally I decided to do something with them. Looked up how to split cedar rails and went at 'er. I've made a few technical errors but I'm getting good results. Got 10-14foot rails out of 3/4 of one section. I might put them up on kijiji... my thumb and back kind of hurt, so pay up if you want them On the way in I saw these tracks:
  10. The province. There is a local roads board in which we pay into as well.
  11. Do I ever love living in unorganized twp Permits? By laws? Council?
  12. My wife would chew everyones ears off about how bad Deet is for you and nature.... We went fishing for the evening last night and her home-made witchhazel cocoction actually held up to my 30% Deet 'Off" brand. I don't ever remember seeing mosq's so bad/thick.
  13. Working from home is not as productive as I'd like to think it is

  14. Let me know... I'm planning a river walk next week.
  15. Time to fill your tub with calamine haha. My wife made some 'homemade' bugspray. Works great for like 10 minutes. She's got another, more potent recipe on the go right now...it's made by fermenting Apple Cider Vinegar and herbs! I'm gonna staaaaank!
  16. nice creek for fly rods. Chris, betcha Brad gave you some good education!
  17. hahahaha As long as you harvest his chops and tell the judge it was to 'feed your family' you'll be ok.
  18. Depends what it is. If I saw someone eating protected/endangered species I wouldn't be happy. Same for moose. I hate hearing of people taking a non-tagged moose. Deer?...giver, I know lots of people who take a few deer each year. Those things are like pollution in some areas. Same for squirrels, rabbits etc. Before someone goes shooting animals for 'survival', they should look into other harvests like mushrooms, berries, plants etc. Taking animals should be in addition to gathering stuff.
  19. I've never done great in the surrounding lakes in the fall. Found it really tough when the walleye are in transition...bass should be ok. Thats just me though
  20. That's exactly why I have an outdoor dog! Although my husky is about as sharp as a 2x4 so he probably would have slept right beside him
