NF - Small business startup programs / concrete journeyman
Pikeslayer replied to ch312's topic in General Discussion
Here's my nickel: Yes, do explore grants etc, but do yourself a favour and speak with a Scotia Bank small business specialist. I started a small business 6 yrs ago with personal savings and just thought I would deal with my existing bank at the time (TD). Despite the JD Power Bull, they really don't care about the little guy (based on my personal experience). Then one day (approx 3 yrs ago) out of the blue, a Scotia representative showed up at my place of business doing a 'cold call' introducing herself to the area businesses. After speaking with her for 15-20 minutes, I was determined to give Scotia a try out. I placed a just enough of a deposit on account to manage my payables. Long story short, 3 months later I walked into the TD bank, got a six figure draft and closed my account. It took my TD account manager 6 weeks to call and ask why I had closed my account. Just my experience and food for thought. Best of luck to you. Slayer -

Probably a good time for: The rest of the story......... My childhood friend was T boned while fishing on a 16 ft tinny by a (very wealthy) drunk piloting a Scarab (I think 35 ft CC) approx 22 yrs ago. He drowned, was rescued and revived. End result, he functions at the level of an 8 yr old but never has to worry about $$$$ for the rest of his life. He loves to fish (travels the world with his caretaker, NZ marlin fishing he survived another near drowning when he and his chair were pulled overboard by a black marlin but that's another story...) and takes particular joy in enjoying his harvest where/when allowed (CT is quite the chef BTW). BUT, he does have a clear understanding that there are rules for possession and ethics for C & R for fish & seasons. he just can't decipher them. There is no doubt he is catching tigers. His CT has sent me clear photos and I have verified them. So given the confirmation of the regs & big assists from Sinclair & Craig (thx BTW), I emailed CT and told him to go for it (as long as I'm invited for dinner). And Mike P., there's no doubt in my mind that there will be another replica added to his (most impressive) collection Thx to all for the input. Slayer.

UPDATE 06.20.12 Okay, not that I was doubting anyone (except maybe the guys without 'musky' in their names/avatars) but I did speak with MNR @ length today and the question was 'double checked' and confirmed. TIGER MUSKY is a hybrid but still falls under the same regulations as MUSKY. So my next question is; Seeing as the tiger musky is a hybrid, would the same 'ethics' apply in terms of catch and release practices? Would one get 'flamed' for actually harvesting a tiger musky???? Ps. Keep in mind that I am inquiring on behalf of a friend, so please don't shoot the messenger. Thx, Slayer

Was that Mercman's testing facility???

This is the second incident in approx 4 weeks. A little toddler in Mississauga is in a coma after being found in a backyard pond. So sad.

Stop eating bananas???

Thx Brian. I am hoping for a more definitive answer. I'll telephone (old school) MNR tomorrow (despite the musky avatars LOL) and post back.

If I'm on the road ( from Mississauga to Sturgeon) before 1400 on a weekday, it's 401 to 115/35. Any other time is via 407. You opening up chip truck Phil?

Thx, Slayer I touched base with an old friend/fishing buddy of mine and he told me he is catching an 'unusual' amount of 'Tiger Musky' on his lake this year. Unfortunately, he is functionally illiterate and unable to read at the required level to interpret our regulations. He asked me if I could find out what the MNR regulations were specific to catch/possession limits. So after spending a little time on line today, I have come up with zero, zilch, zippo. The only useful information I have found on the site is: tiger muskellunge (pike-muskellunge hybrids) So do tiger muskys fall under Musky or Pike when interpretting the regulations? Anybody have any additional insite?? I figure somebody with 'musky' in their name or avatar might know?? Thx, Slayer

Way to go Craig :clapping: I gotta try this musky thing one day.

Congratulations Simon. You have developed a severe case of ATD. "ATD (Attention to Detail) is a talent, not a condition" - Pikeslayer -

This is an actual 'cut & paste' from the Bell Customer Service 'On Line Chat' service. Thank you for your patience an online representative will be with you shortly. Your wait time is approximately 0 minute(s). Welcome to bell.ca! You are chatting with Trista. To assist you, may I please have your name and mobile phone number with area code? you: I would like a phone number to a Bell office located in Canada. NOT THE CARIBEAN!! Trista: Hello and welcome to Bell Mobility's chat service. How can I help you today? Trista: Sorry, I sent that at the same time I received your message. Trista: What type of Bell office are you looking for? you: I want to transfer my business phone & business internet from my company to another. I have made 3 request for a "Transfer of Responsibility Form" since last Thursday. Your colleagues in the Caribbean cannot deliver. Trista: I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble with the transfer of responsibility requests. The calls for customer care are routed through the same IVR. That being said, my suggesting to get to a Canadian representative would be to select french as your language. Once you get a representative on the line they will likely be bilingual and be able to assist you right away. If by a rare chance they only speak french, they can connect you to a bilingual representative in that centre. Trista: Selecting French ensures that you get through to a Canadian centre that can handle both english and french requests. you: Really? Is this the only way to speak to a representitive in Canada. That is absolutely rediculous. Trista: Yes, I apologize but the IVR cannot specify where each call gets routed. I can see if there is a corporate number for you to contact, They generally only handle corporate account types but if your account is categorized as a business and not under an actual person's name then they can complete requests for you as well. you: No thank you. It will be much easier to just cancel my 2 accounts and switch to Rogers. Trista: I am sorry that you are not getting the assistance you require from speaking to representatives in other countries. If there was a Canadian specific number available, I would be more than happy to provide it to you. you: Thanks again. I am printing out this conversation and posting it on my Business to Business internet forum. We are doing an exercise in customer service and I think this will be ideal for forum study and conversation. Trista: I understand. Sorry again that I wasn't able to provide a better resolution for you. Trista: Did you have any other questions for me today? you: Sorry. I am on the phone with Rogers. I'll get back to you. Please hold. Trista: I'm sorry but I am not able to wait on the chat any longer. you: No need to be sorry. Rogers is going to look after the administration in closing my Bell accounts and setting us up with their services. Trista: I am sorry to hear that you are moving carriers, but I do understand why. Trista: Enjoy the rest of your day. you: I will. As I no longer need to deal with Bell Your chat representative has ended the chat session. We thank you for using this service and we hope to have answered all your questions.
