  1. Hey Roy, I heard the Stella is nice. Bit I have never tried one
  2. Too funny. My buddy has a 17 ft Sidewinder with a 175 johnson on the back. He wanted to give it a name so we got out the paint and did up a tag for it." Cirrosis of the river". His wife wasn't too impressed. My 26 ft cruiser is called "Pure Pleasure" a little lame but it works for me.
  3. I have a new fishing partner for the summer. Was talking to my neighbours across the street a few weeks ago and asked them what they are going to do with there dog. They are both going to Afghanistan for 7 mths. They were going to put him in a kennel. I thought about it for a couple of days and just could not see him there for that long of a time. So I volunteered to take him while they are away. Needless to say they were ecstatic. Hes a wonerful dog, but a handful. One year old purebred Siberian Husky. This breed is definitely not for everyone. Thank god I have lots of experience with these guys. I have had two Malamutes and one Siberian over the years. He has the energy of a chainsaw at w.o.t. but is a social butterfly. I run him everyday in the bush on my mountain bike, so it gets me out too for some exercise. An interesting thing happened last week while walking him. I met this interesting lady walking her dog and we got a talking, shes a dog lover and single as well, good looking and very pleasent. We agreed to meet this week and go for a coffee. Who knows what might happen Harley is the dogs name and I'm beginning to think he's a bit of a chick magnet. Nice trade off I would say. It will be interesting to see how he handles his first ride in the bassboat. Will have to take some pics for all you dog lovers.
  4. Aniceguy, that boat in the driveway would be killing me right now. Just remember if those other two props don;t fair out to your liking, give the tempest a shot. You can just borrow one from your Merc dealer to try. There fast.
  5. Slowpoke... you will love the Calcutta. I had a Corsair once and it was the worst reel I ever bought. I put it on my chopping block and hit it with my splitting maul. Man that felt good to put that piece of crap to rest.
  6. We camp on crown land all summer with no probs. Between Mattawa and Deep River on the Ottawa River. Beautiful sand beaches with lots of firewood available. One weekend we camp on the Ontario side the next its on the Quebec side of the river. We are so spoiled here. When friends from the city come here they cannot believe that its free. They usually ask, "when is the camp attendant come by to collect money" And the snacks of walleye every night are pretty good too. Just remember to have your tent set up before you pop a brew. That way the cops can't ticket you for drinking in a public place.
  7. Boil your ribs in a pot of water till cooked. Roll them in crushed crackers add salt and pepper then place on a broiler pan. Smear a layer of butter on the tops of the ribs and broil till crusty and brown. Easy and good.
  8. Hey Randy. I had a pair of Bobby Orr skates. Remember they had the yellow sides. Man I loved those skates. Never did see the Bobby Orr fishing rod though, or I would of had one of them for sure.
  9. I remember when I was about 10 yrs old and I was fishing at the end of our local neighbourhood beach, where there was a deep hole. There was a big sign that said DANGER DEEP HOLE. Well it was really hot that day and the big crowd was spilling over to the deep hole to swim, where we were fishing. I thought I had a bite so I set the hook hard enough to cross his eyes. SNAG Well lucky for me there was a kid there with his flippers and mask swimming around. I tried to get my snag out to no avail then asked this kid to help me out. He said no problem and took my line and started swimming out. When he got over it he did a dive to go unhook me(we have lots of logs on the bottom here) and in about 5 seconds he came up out of the water screaming I had a huge fish on, as he beat his ass to shore scared stiff. Now my heart started to pound. I had my dads rod and reel that day and he didn't even know. It was sweet, a Mitchell 301 on a Berkley Cherrywood. Were talking 1970 here. I couldn't move this fish as much as I tried. Then a crowd started to gather and cheer me on. Then this man came over and wanted to give me a hand, and I would have no part of that. Finally I turned around to the shore and started walking with my rod over my shoulder and this fish came in. I wrestled with it on the sand to get a hold of it. I had the fish on the chain and was heading home with my bike. I had his tail tied to me pedal and his head to my handlebars. I ws so proud walking home pushing my bike and everyone slowing down to see my big fish. Did you catch that son, yep all by myself. I felt 8 feet tall. My first sturgeon about 15 lbs. That sucker was almost as big as me. Never got to use the old boys rod again cause in all the fuss with that big fish I filled his reel with beach sand. Was hooked on fishing before that but was really hooked now.
  10. Nicely done. Which one of you caught the big un? How do you split the cash win 50/50. I tried the 1/3 for each, with my nephew last summer, 1/3 for me 1/3 for him and 1/3 for the boat... Made for some good conversation on the way home haa. But I gave him half.
  11. Oldphart my buddy has a cottage on Lake Clear a gorgous lake. Can see 20 ft down and the smallies and walleyes are nice. They have a walleye slot limit there, I think it's anything under 18 inches has to go back. It can be a tricky lake to fish.Rodwrap pm me if you want more infi on Lake Clear.
  12. I would put my money on the Fraser River for that one.
  13. Trolling and jigging are probably the most popular methods. Go and do some jigging where all the other boats are. Jig and minnow. As far as trolling I like to use baits that have a wider wobble, verses the tight wobble. But every day is different what worked today may not work tomorrow. But your on the right track. Planer boards are a nice piece of kit to have as well.
  14. Funny, they didn't mention a thing about cougars.
  15. Don't get me going about Kam. It's one of my favorite local lakes. I fish it 4 or 5 times a summer. Beautiful lake.
  16. For consumption it is better to bleed them first.Cut their throats and hold them by the tail to bleed, better done at the water. If there bigger I just give em a good punch to the head. Maybe this is a good thread to see everyones priests (bonker) cause I have seen some dandies in my time on the water. I don't have one.
  17. Actually Bark Lake is a good pic. Town of Madawaska just before entering Algonquin Park. The fishing pressure is really low for a lake of this size and there are some big lakers to be caught there. The walleye fishing is great also. I might be going there this weekend. Jimmer have you been there this year?
  18. I saw lots at CT on the weekend. Not sure what brand they were but they were around 25.00. For better quality and more expensive go to pretty well any eyeglass store.
  19. Awesome fish, way to go. Haven't caught a 15 yet but a few 13 and 14's on the BOQ every fall.
  20. Ah The Fort, my second home. Well lets just say I know a few spots. I have been fishing this part of the river for 35 yrs. Get yourself some river charts at M.N.R. Pembroke or the Pembroke Marina, there about 30.00 for the laminated ones. Don't forget your crayon and I will give you some details. Gonna cost you a pint tho
  21. If you go to a battery store and ask them for a product that you add to your battery cells to rejuvenate them. I cant think of the name of the product off hand but one small bottle takes care of one battery for about 20.00. I have only seen this product in battery only stores. I use it in my batteries every couple of years and get seven, maybe eight years use out of my batteries. But most important is the charger. Personally if it says Made in China leave it on the shelf. I use a charger made by DUAL PRO out of the states and it is going on fourteen years old and still works like new, life-time warranty and all. They will run you about 300.00 which might seem like alot but, thats the price of a couple of batteries. Also you might want to have your batteries load tested at a garage or go buy a load tester from Princess Auto for about 25.00. A good piece of kit to have around the garage anyway. And of course clean all your battery post and connections yearly even if they look okay and tighten down a big pair of pliers.
  22. Sturgeon lake is nice. Just make sure all your papers are in order.
  23. Going into III next week John, I hope hehe.
