  1. Funeral on Saturday then I'll be on Quinte Sunday May 7-14. Hoping the fish are active and the weather, not so much. Sadly the weatherman is usually right when you don't want him to be! They say you have to be there for the bad times in order to be there for the good! We'll see. For those that make it out, best of luck.
  2. Call Radio World. You'll get a straight answer. Should, could and maybe are not what you want to hear.
  3. Nicely done! Had 9 1/2' 6/7 weight Algonquin fly rod with a Shakespeare Under spin reel. My first steelhead rod back in the 70's. Pretty much the only thing over 7' long back in those days. How times change.
  4. Not sure why you chose to QUOTE Fish Farmer and myself. Neither of us made mention of SMOKE! To be honest when I first started running four strokes, I missed the smell of a two stroke in the morning. Still able to get my fix from my chainsaw, leaf blower and whipper snipper. All ready "blown away" by the four strokes I have had and currently own. (Suzuki 15, Yamaha 20 and a Mercury 40) Sorry. No E-TECH in my future. Especially if the appearance of the G2 trickles down to their smaller outboards. Gotta be the ugliest thing on the water. Dreamed up by some kid and his Lego set.
  5. Lund Fury 1600. 40 horse 4 stroke. 4 blade Spitfire Mercury prop. Three grown men and all of our gear. Boat literally jumps out of the water and onto plane in the blink of an eye. Tops out at just under 30 mph @ 6000 rpm. Honda has been making 4 strokes for over fifty years but it's been a slow progression from small portable fishing motors (7.5 thru 10 hp) to what's available today. https://marine.honda.com/company/about-us
  6. Hole shots are for drag racers and tournament fishermen. Quiet, economical and reliable 4 strokes are the way to go. Four blade propeller technology has improved low end performance. (getting up on plane with a heavy load) Proper horsepower to weight ratio is the key. Been running outboards for over fifty years, Like Fish Farmer, I too wish four strokes had come along much sooner in life.
  7. X2 Tiny Tach has served me well. My fisrt on a 25 Yamaha four stroke lasted almost ten years. My second is on my 40 hp Mercury four stroke. Handy gadget for prop selection as well.
  8. I'm on the other side of the coin. Been out for the last 3 hours doing good deeds. Sure is wet and heavy here. 10 horse 28 inch was bogging on a full cut. The crud left by the plow was a chore and a half. Without my machine, I'd probably still be out there still working on my own. Mild out now but if you don't get after it, it'll be a solid block of ice once the sun goes down. Think we got more snow in the last 24 hours than we had all last Winter.
  9. A lot of angry people in the US. The failing economy, lack of jobs, racism, terrorism etc. Trump did what he needed to do. Told them exactly what they wanted to hear. Make America great again! Apparently the people bought it. This from a man that has stiffed his country in so many ways for so many years. It was my sincere hope that he would lose. He's the most arrogant narcissist of all time. Can't stand looking at the man. Much less listening to him.
  10. Donald Trump in charge of one of the most powerful countries in the world? SCARY STUFF!!!!!!!!! The whole world needs to be concerned!
  11. Both are still available today. A designer from Flatfish went off on his own and developed the Kwikfish. Basically all he did was eliminate the tandem trebles and wire spreader. Even the color selections and sizes were the same. luhr jensen bought out Kwikfish. http://www.cabelas.ca/product/31304/luhr-jensen-kwikfish-lure Helin's Flatfish was a poor design. Only the larger sizes would cast. The tandem hooks would foul in your line 9 times out of 10 during a cast. Basically a trolling lure. Worden's bought out Charlie Helin. Now yakima bait has bought out Worden's.. Yakima claims they are the original Helin Flatfish. Although, it seems someone along the line, eliminated the tandem setup on certain models.. http://www.yakimabait.com/products/flatfish/ Hope this helps.
  12. Exactly. The whole cooling system is pressurized by the impeller. The indicator/pee hole allows a small portion of water to exit. Letting you know that circulation is present. The remaining circulating water exits at the prop. A good impeller will show a strong steam. As the impeller wears the stream will diminish. When the impeller completely fails, there will be no stream and you engine will soon overheat. Another cause for poor or no circulation can be a plugged strainer on the underside of the cavitation plate. (water intake)The strainer prevents foreign matter from entering the system. The rubber compound used in an impeller has a tendency to dry out and break down. Yamaha recommends replacement after 300 hours or every three years. The interval seems excessive but a small price to pay for peace of mind. Hope this helps.
  13. I anchor in slow water and just let them dance in the current. K9 Kwikfish about 100' behind the boat. No need to go deep where I fish. Average depth is 10'. They come up and smash it. Back in the late 60's early 70's a black or skunk X5 Flatfish was the had to have lure for steelhead on the Saugeen. That and a black Willowleaf spoon made by Algonquin if memory serves me well. Kwikfish came some time later. Developed by a designer from Flatfish. He apparently didn't like the wire spreader and the double treble on the bellies of Flatfish. So he started his own company and Kwikfish were born. He's since been bought out by Luhr Jensen as have several others.
  14. He sure makes it look easy. I filet the same way. Probably takes me more than twice as long for each fish. Good job. Thanks for sharing the video.
  15. Savor the memories. He'll always be in your heart. Sorry for your loss.
