Leaking Transom - outboard mounting bolt...
fish_fishburn replied to bigjimmcbob's topic in General Discussion
As for torgue on your motor mounting bolts. Just snug them up firmly but don't tighten till your blue in the face. You can crack the gelcoat if you tighten too much. -
Need some help to choose the right trolling motor!!

You don't need a 101 lb thrust motor on a 15 ft boat. That is huge overkill. Something in the 50 lb range will do just fine. A 24v system will treat you well, and you should be able to go 2 days without recharging. Motorguide makes some nice motors, check them out as well before buying anything. Seems to me that Minn Kota is adding alot more plastic to their motors from what I have seen. I have only used Motorguide for the last 20 yrs and when I am in the market for a new one, it will be a Motorguide since they have always been real good to me. -
When I am doing 60 mph in my boat on gps my merc speedo says I am doing about 66 mph. How's that for accuracey.

Hunterjoe you picked a great place to go. My buddy has a cottage on lake clear and we have been fishing it as much as we can. Walleye during the day are there for the taking. Average size is about 24 inches. We drift jig them in 20 to 30 fow. My favorite is to carolina rig with a nice shiner. The smallies are huge and so fat some of them look deformed. Some days there tough to catch though. You can see bottom in 20+ fow. If you see them chances are they have seen you and chances of catching them are slim. You need to take as long a cast as you can make to avoid spooking them. I like the far end of the lake where the islands are. Had better luck there for smallies and daytime walleyes. There are largies in there as well but the smallies are way bigger from what I have seen. They say theres smallies in there weighing upwards of 8 lbs but so far I havent caught any over 5 but lots in the 4 to 5 lb range. I think the slot for walleye is anything under 19 inches has to be returned. Its a safe lake for running around in, just stay in the middle of the lake. Up the lake around the islands is good as well just stay in the middle between the islands and you will be okay. The boat launch is fair and where you are staying is a great place nice cabins and lots of space and things to do. Thw water level on the lake is normal since it is primarily spring fed. Have a good time and post some pics of them fat smallies. Oh yeah fluorocarbon leaders are a must.

Thats a great show. I love the episode fishing with the redneck in the little jon boat. Hey Milo hows the Bass Cat treating you so far? Have you got her all tweaked and dialed in?

I checked with a friend that owns a Ultramar station and he said that their hi-test doesn't contain ethanol either.

The 3M products work good. I did my cruiser two years ago and got rid of all the oxidization. If I recall it's a three step process. The first is a cutting compound to remove the oxidization then there is a gelcoat restorer next then the final application is wax. It took me the whole weekend and my arms wee pretty well pooched after I was done, have fun with that.

My Vacation Tackle Box - Part One - Georgian Bay Pike

A Johnson Silverminnow is a good choice as well. Also in shallow water around wood and rocks try a spoon and retrieve it really fast so the spoon is on the surface creating a nice topwater commotion. If there is big pike around the strikes will be violent. -
Mostly deerflies and skeeters here.

Ya might want to check out a Spiel UL. I heard they can handle anything from perch to musky, depending on the angler. And the action aint to shabby either. -
Thats awesome fishfarmer, and a million bucks of advertising for the SPIEL MONSTER UL.

Wat to go, on your first walleye. By the way what did she recomend to you to use? -
I almost bought that one at CT last weekend, but when I noticed the tag said made in china I put it back. Every rainsuit I looked at in CT and Walleyworld are made in China. I just have a hard time paying that kind of money for something that cost probably 10.00 to make. Guess I'll probably be ordering one from LL Bean. Made with pride in the U.S.A. My last rain suit from LL Bean lasted me at least 15 yrs. I have just had such bad luck with products made in China that I refuse to purchase anything from there anymore.

Sprint bassboats are junk. Stay away from them is all I'm gonna say.

Awesome report. I have only eveer fished eyes that late at night.
-
Sounds like a good lake. Think i'll take my g/f there.

Thanks for the info, very informative. 3 or 4 bucks for 1 leader Think I'll tie my own for now. Tieing a few knots is no big deal to me, all part of the big picture as far as i'm conerned. Anyone ever heard of a company called MARTIN? That is who made my rod, its about 20-25 yrs old and never seen water or a reel.

Sorry guys, but soccer (football) does didly for me. I am impressed buy how hard some of these guys can boot the ball though. They should allow head shots and elbows and accidental kicks to the groin to the other players on the pitch against the divers and fakers. -
I see guys pounding fish ducks and throwing them back in the marsh just to get some shooting in. I disagree with it totally but its done quite frequently. Sort of the same?
