  1. People used to keep a trunk full of perch 20 years ago on Simcoe. It was disgusting and a recipe for trouble. I'm glad they put limits for perch on Simcoe. I think populations can be hurt on any size body of water if they are abused.
  2. A day on the ice is better than most other days, so a great day is one to remember! Thanks for sharing Cliff.
  3. I just had a long conversation with a friend about how some of us are headed for housing issues as costs keep soaring and we look at retirement. We talked at length about a commune type setting where people would have their own living quarters and there being a central location for cooking and entertainment. After we were finished, I couldn't believe we were having this conversation in Canada. Still not sure if her caught anything though. Nobody reported on that. LOL
  4. Nice to hear someone planning a trip like this, good for you Cliff. I agree Mike is a great guy to talk to and always willing to share.
  5. It sure looks like people don't have any fears, that ice looks thin. Oh well, the early bird gets the whitefish! Thanks for sharing a fishing report!
  6. This is one depressing thread, sorry guys.
  7. I can also see the Sens moving to Quebec. A half empty house in the Nations capitol is embarrassing.
  8. So no more pictures of those nice specks?????
  9. This has been a conversation in the kawarthas since the 80's and 90's since those lakes have been targeted for years because of the great bluegill fishing (especially on Rice Lake). Numbers were declining a bit and there was a panfish focus group put together to discuss possible limits at that time. The group consisted of cottage resort owners, an Asian group from the city and a number of other individuals. This group met for some time (sometimes heated) then were told that there would be no limits initiated because there was no biological reason to do so. We all know that changed a few years back with the new regs putting limits on most panfish. My biggest concern for the lake I live on is that people don't know the regs or don't give a darn. Yes, the bluegill limit is 300, but anglers are only permitted to keep 30 at 7" or over. I'm just not sure most adhere to this. I see the same boats in the same spots for days on end which scares me. Taking too many of the larger breeders is not good and I believe this is what was happening on Rice Lake way back when.
  10. That's just crazy news irish. Almost the end of January and crappy ice on Temagami.
  11. And then there are the guys that like to run bad ice or open water for a thrill. Very sad news though as I doubt that this incident was anything other than a terrible mistake on their part.
  12. Nice, thanks for sharing.
  13. We did Bear Creek Cottages for years and always had great service. We especially love getting off the ice at the end of the day, real toilets and showers and great facilities for cooking. The reason we stopped going was because we didn't like bringing fish up from over 30' and having to let them go because of the restrictive slot. Will probably go back at some point, they were by far the best set up for our group over the years.
  14. Matt must have been kicked out of the ACC years ago or something. LOL
  15. Sorry, I knew I had answered that wrong the moment I hit POST. Anything is possible when it comes to fishing.
  16. Not in the perch grounds. They put the laker huts out in a different spot.
  17. I really hate shootouts.
  18. So, is there still access to Little Lake?
  19. All manufacturers should offer this deal all the time. Good on Evinrude though.
  20. Exciting hockey, but getting tired of the loses. They have to figure out how to get those shots in. Get rid of the shoot outs, worst thing they ever put into the game of hockey. So, the players might get a little tired from playing 3 on 3, too bad they make a ton of money. let them play until it's decided. No points for losers either! That's just crazy. Can you believe how BIG Mike Smith looks in the net. Changes needed in goal if there are going to be any changes. I was amazed that they were even able to hit the posts in the shoot out.
  21. I have always wanted to try Balsam, the trick would be to find access to 8-12 feet of water along a weedline. It could potentially produce pike, crappie and other pan fish.
  22. Mitchell Lake might not have that much water except in the channel areas, it is drawn right down in the winter.
  23. It's good for the people that will use that area.
  24. Some spots on the Kawartha Lakes are scary and unexpected. I live on the south end of Pigeon Lake and everything looks great until you happen to stop on top of the old river bed. It can be 15" and then 2" a foot away because of a current that follows the old bed.
  25. Way too much time and effort going into this, I believe it is a tactical distraction. Those who need it know how to get it already.
