  1. do a quick search look for hey you smokers this topic wwnt thru 3 days ago.
  2. i bought my boat off ebay on a bet but before that i did the whole boat show thing and priced and spec'd a 16' with a 50 or 60 from every dealer in ontario. with a few exceptions the prices were almost identical. the legends are certainly priced attractively but you've got to throw a ton of engine upgrade onto that price. the 2stroke upgrades are way cheaper than the four stroke upgrades. everyone has their opinion but in this day of ultra efficient low polluting 2 stokes i cant see the value in paying siginificantly higher prices for a 4 stroke. in the range you're shopping in i liked the finish on the princecraft the best, priced at around 15k i think. good luck new boat pretty exciting!!!
  3. great numbers! what kind of depths are we talking if you dont mind? i know the area over the drop off is about 100 feet just wondering what depths the fish are hanging in.
  4. the tip of the sandbar is (was) marked by a barrel in the past. str8 might know if it is there. from pottohawk i just head for bait island and make runs at the bar until i reach the end and the depth finder stops reading 1.5ft. or i just get sick of waiting and drive over the thing. it costs more to drive to longpoint in the truck then it does in the boat. the ride to pottohawk from turkey point is about 5 minutes, the drive from turkey point to longpoint is wayyyyyy longer!!!! just so we understand the bar is not a factor if you are leaving from turkey point and going out to the bluff.....
  5. i dont do alot of minnow catching these days (or fish really) but when i was a kid i slayed the minnows by the dozen on lake huron with bread. the crust lasts the longest just throw it in the trap. take the bread out if there is any left or you catch mice in the boathouse with it....
  6. thanks guys i did the bluff at about 5 am last year in 5foot waves flat out for a tournament and it was like a miami vice episode. friday calling for tstorms but lets cross our fingers!
  7. pick something in demand! a friend is having trouble finding customers - he calibrates extremely rare precision test equipment. perhaps he should have picked something to do with homes or cars, everyone has them! get in with a busy construction company. you can bang off a 9600 hr apprenticeship in about 4 years. after that become a foreman cause you cant stay on the tools forever. if i started again i might consider location as much as occupation - the roots are a little too deep now for a big change. good luck these guys are right - opportunity.
  8. its always been my experience that fishing of all kinds dies off after about 9. i fish temagami alot, its like a light switch going off. never caught anything past 930, its like they all run and watch law and order or something. its interesting to hear you guys catching bass at night. i have caught pike at night ice fishing but they probably weren't watching the time.
  9. i launch out of turkey point coming from hamilton, its quicker to drive the boat across to the point than drive the truck around (weather permitting). deeper water and less weeds if you stay just outside the bay and drift for smallies or target weed pockets specifically. look up ec 10 and fish the channel towards turkey point. dan and vinni - i remember the ride out to the bluff bar being kinda long, maybe it was the weather - how far, how long at around 35-40 mph? im out there friday going to fish for pike and largies where you guys said in the am then finish the day fishing smallies in the channel - see you there maybe????
  10. congrats! maybe its time to walk away from the computer, stretch, maybe take a shower, have a shave. Grab a snack before you get back at it....
  11. nice weather on the bay - good for you. i dont usually get as deep into longpoint as where you guys are, usually further out by ec10 and pottohawk point. finally got into smallies around the channel past the bar the other day - lots on jigheads with worms and gulp leeches. for the amount of fish reported to be in the bay it can be tough fishing so i hear you brother. i always seem to catch the'off day'. im there about every other week so if you see the blue stratos stop by and i'll tell you what's not working.....
  12. my wood shop generates alot of oak and maple, and occasionally cherry. part-timing as a lumberjack nets me the occasional hall of apple. the apple and the maple i can typically match to meats on the que, my question for you experienced smokers is what would be a suitable match for the oak? or should it just hit the firepit?
  13. "Why all the hate towards cops on the board lately? We've all met our fair share of bad cops, but I've personally met many good cops too. Like I said in last years post. Try walking a mile in their shoes and you will understand why some are the way that they are." while it does appear this way (there has certainly been alot of heated debates!) the majority of these posts are asking to share your experience. one can share a story (good or bad) and the reader is to decide whether to hate cops or not. you're not a pariah for sharing the story is what im trying to say. if the bulk of your experience on or off the water with police is negative you're not a 'police hater', you're just a guy responding to the post. now half the OFC community wants to take you on for 'attacking' ontario's finest, but you didn't, you just told a story. what would be intersting is to post a 'dumb electrician gets zapped' story. we'd all respond with funny stories of getting electrocuted. do you think all kinds of electricians would get their backs up and start telling us to walk a mile in their shoes and calling us names? probably not. any way another post about as far off the trailer as a barrie police boat.....
  14. my 2 cents is the connections on the hose. a resort i frequent runs mercs and yamis and this behaviour seems to be the connectors
  15. just chippin in - about 400 for a similar boat, new(ish) from the states.
  16. can we blame the bear? I'm chewing on my laptop as we speak. good q porn. speedy recoverry to your pooches.
  17. my customers and friends experiences with rangers - okay with smaller, lighter loads. a 20 foot i/o coming home from PA last summer just about killed a 4l ranger. just about 4500lbs. however 2-3000 lbs loads seem just fine. beleive if you want a 4x4 you have to get the 4l. a 4l ranger gets about the same mileage as a full size with a V8. 2wd trucks do just fine if you invest in some serious tires. (for towing and most ramps). cool little trucks and an excellent value if you ask me.(which you did)
  18. gotta watch the weather reports closely. the further in the bay the better but longpoint can have very irritating, and then dangerous wave action. watch the weather channel marine section and the govt marine weather. but remember it changes fast and it is a great lake. ive never found a free ramp most are 15-20 with parking.
  19. 8 months 85 lbs. is that a typo? how big do they get?
  20. im having some posters regret. my last post was out of line. peace.
  21. great pics - thanks for sharing them. its cool how little bears look just like big bears, only smaller. we saw a couple coming out of north bay a couple of years ago, couldn't cross the jersey barrier. so my crazy buddy gets out and heaves them one at a time over the barrier to their mother!
  22. gotta second make sure you go USPS! UPS will steal your shorts at the door - in my experience ive never paid duty just tax on tackle. good luck.
  23. great comment - it seems police are in handcuffs half the time - why didn't they arrest the protestors? next day, why did they arrest the protestors? the consant need for covering your butt must wiegh heavily. its not cowardly to criticize the system that removes a uniformed officer from service for 6 hours every time they perform their duty - its clinical and quite rational. some depts have dedicated report writers that free up officers quicker. and the bottom line - let's not lay it on too thick now.....
