  1. i pay my 20$ but dan b. if you know something i dont......
  2. i dont understand why you are having this problem, the entire idea behind rollers is ease of loading. wether a bunk or roller you are essentially driving a triangle (the boat) into a rectangle (being the bunks or rollers). the wedge centers itself provided the boat (or winch) is giving the bunks or rollers a chance to straighten the boat. our roller trailers and are bunk trailers were modular - that is the forward set of bunks or rollers would be independent from the rear, allowing the boat to hit the forward assy, and the rear of the boat would straighten as it is winched up the forward assy. often the rear set(what i beleive you're calling the first and second set} wouldn't contact the boat until the boat was removed. wait a second - i just realized you are talking about keel rollers arent you? well if you are i dont feel like erasing all that typing. keel rollers aren't actually for boat support they are for boat protection. if you are using them to support your boat you would benifit from side guards or a set of simple one piece bunks to both align and sit your boat on. easy and inexpensive to make and install on any cross member with bolster brackets and ubolts. pm me if yo want to talk trailers - ive built and repaired hundreds of the things....
  3. "Recent studies by RV and Boat owners" - well what could be more comprehensive and conclusive than that. what a fantastic debating tool. kind of like dressing up as a doctor for a hemmorhoid commercial. i dont care if it works or not, all i know is my boat smells like snuggles in the spring and yours smells like tarp, wet carpet and dead fish. im sure my 2 bucks at the dollar store is buying johnson and johnson a new yacht. Quite frankly, recent studies have shown
  4. im in the hamilton area as well. day trips are usually to lake erie, but ive done all the local conservations and such. check the GRCA website and the niagara region site for locations. i dont have much faith in the conservation areas - just my experience. lots of sunfish thru the ice. i fish the harbour and burlington bay a few times just to get out. maitland and nanticoke are pretty close. welcome to the hammer.
  5. get it as clean as you can but more importantly as dry as you can. take everything you can out and store inside (all gear, electronics, safety gear). its a good time to get organized anyway, give you a fresh start in the spring. prop open all compartments. crunch up a million dollar-store dryer sheets and put them everywhere! fill with gas, oil and appropriate stabilizer. fog engine, change gear oil. remove speedo cable and blow out water. bilge and livewell pumps ok just ensure the drains are clear. (run some freeze thru if it makes yo fell better) remove batteries - or place on trickle charger or maintenance charger or charge every few weeks thru the winter, only discharged batteries suffer from the cold. build cheap supports for top, cover with expensive boat cover, then cover with cheap blue tarp. park on solid ground, jack up and support trailer just enough to get tires some releif. in the spring uncover, reload, and hit the water. PS replace drain plug! seems to work for me - anything ive missed will get added. just for interest's sake it costs about 80 bucks to winterize your boat the first year - that stuff lasts for about 5 years, so each year its just stabilizer and oils. last year i put my boat away for about 9 bucks. local marina will winterize, cover and store from between 400-1500 bucks. lot of gas money for a half days work!!
  6. ive worn mine on temagami in july, its freezing at 5 am by 10 am we're in board shorts and putting on suntan lotion. but i wear mine anytime past september something about being warmer than you need to be is better than feeling the cold wind finding every crack in a windbreaker. plus the comfort factor kneeling on the casting deck or sitting in a wet cold seat just nice being in a survival suit like bringing the sleeping bag out of the tent with you. oh yeah plus you wont die!
  7. that fish just keeps going. start the post again with "buddy catches 51" musky" and well forget the 45" part!
  8. its not really buyer beware its more like seller beware. i buy and sell alot of stuff privately and the easiest, fairest, safest method all around is first guy to show up at the door with cash gets the item. every other offer is likely Bull. i get requests all the time to hold onto an item (honest ill be there friday) and just get hung with it, even free stuff im giving away. save yourseld the trouble first come first served. sorry thanks for the repair!!
  9. yes the heads up is helpful. last year i phoned the park to check on the ramp\fees and such. very helpfuL lady gave me all the details except one - the ramp was closed. after a 2.5 hr drive showed up and was not happy!!! but you can drive down to virginia beach and launch there just bring change the ramp is COIN OPERATED!, then park across the street.

    RIP Sly.

pardon my asking, was this SLYATV from the simcoe message board?
  12. so new mercurys do not have a fogging plug/valve like evinrudes and johnsons? just curious as i can fog my johnson thru a single maintenance valve. amd not to ruin it for anybody but no commments about "fogging my johnson"
  13. it is nice when there is plenty to go round. who says fishing cant be a team sport? you're in some good stuff if you're throwing back 10" perch. does that ever look like a condom!
  14. nice perch dan - hoping to make several trips to Erie thru the perch season - i seem to be at dover when they're at Pottohawk, or at mailtland when they're at woolleys - but thats fishing. limey 50 is the limit for perch.
  15. i also always close the bail by hand, just never thought about it before. my top choice for medium priced reel is the shimano sedona. a stradic quality reel at a third the price.
  16. ive never caught musky of that size but as a matter of interest the "big fish" contest for buckhorn was won by a 50.5" musky, so something of that size comes out of their yearly, one would assume. ive seen some 42's on buckhorn. i guess when you thro in weight a 30 lb fish is bigger than a 20 lb fish, no matter the length.
  17. you should see the garage....its like a sickness. (buyin tools that is)
  18. well its pouring rain and the kidlets are back at school so its time to venture downstairs and see if the wood shop is still there - it is, covered in 6ins of sawdust from god knows when (about the time i opened up the boat in the spring)! so the constant sweeping and vacuuming begins again for the winter. took a couple pics of some of my goodies and how i keep my shop organized. maybe you've got storage ideas for small shops. here are some of mine. first the table saw - lose the router table and add a wing to the saw. end up with giant router table without having xtra piece in the shop. the chop saw is along the wall - its on a portable so it can travel with me (though it is HEAVY) or get out of the way. a small compressor is mounted to the dust collector - all ireally need to run nailers and blow off the tools. this saves tons of space - planer, jointer and a couple of sanders on one rolling unit - plus four huge drawers full of small power tools. each tool can run full length stock without interference - plus it powers up on one cord. two wall shelves hold raw lumber - plus they have builtins for blades, nailers, drills, routers. drill press and band saw picd here as well. there is a million receptacles so everone has their own. circuit are layed out every other in case you run a few items at once. rolling cart for sheet goods and another shelf, this fits shoe box style tubs for sandpaper, screws and nails, whatever. and more lumber on top only one bench (crap collector) for assy. scroll saw and spindle sander, plus router fence live underneath. its 6 by 3 which is just big enough. on wheels of course air cleaner a must - it is on with the lights, so i leave it on for a while after im done, then shut it off from the top of the stairs. keeps everything clean - a must have! thats about it. thanks for checkin it out, oh, and cleaning that made me hungry so a little bbq.....
  19. pleasure craft licence and proof of ownership (bill of sale). no insurance but if ya have ya might as well show it. The Pleasure Craft License is free of charge and transferable to any subsequent owner of the vessel. The license must be carried on board the vessel at all times. However, a license is not a Title Document. Vessel operators must therefore also carry other documents, such as a document that establishes ownership or registration, in order to help avoid/reduce delays clearing US-Canada customs or in case of a fine. "registration" does not come into play until the vessel exceeds 15 tonnes, and is considered ownership but again, not on your boat or mine, unless ya got a really, really big boat. there is no document from Service Canada or any other agency that qualifies as ownershiop of a pleasure craft.
  20. my ice fishing perch are so small they come out more like fries than fillets. so we used them for fondues, roll em, stick em on your fork, dip them in batter and slap them in the oil pot for about 1 minute. super tasty and helped get rid of the small ones you wished you left in the lake. all other ideas sound great, i use my bbq to cook em keeps the odors out of the house (and the boys). plus you can smoke and swear while you fry. ideal temps are 360-375, use a candy or deep fry thermometer to enure temps. any higher you'll burn the oil or the batter, any lower they just soak in it and the fish cooks chewy by the time the batter browns. you might have to wait between batches for the oil to return to temp. a deep fryer style propane burner is good for this as it has the nuts to keep the temps up. small stuff and bits you can pickle in jars, there were some recipes for that posted a few days ago. one more, a crab cake style treat fried in the pan, great appetizer or side. just find a good crab cake recipe and substitute the perch. good luck!
  21. i stopped spending big money on my spinning gear all round. big money on baitcasters. i discovered the berkely cherrywood by mistake, needed an extra onn a trip and they were 20$. i like these rods as much as my shimano compres and i could buy 5 for the money. sensitive tips, okay for backbone and damnm near disposable for the money. in med light great for jigging and bouncing, not good for trolling though.
  22. thats a great pic lew - you must be packing more camera that i am!
  23. im curious if the same pair returns or if they scavenge eachothers nests - or do they just stay in it?
