GOOD FISHING PARTNER and BAD FISHING PARTNERS
smally21 replied to wankerjohn123's topic in General Discussion
i took a buddy into a portage lake jed never seen and put him on fish all day, driving the trolling motor and spending less time fishing, operating electronics etc. at the end of the day he should have kissed my boots but he told everybody how i didnt catch anything and he outfished me. were still buddies but he has never seen the inside of my boat. -
use a proper ski/tube rope. there is no substitute, they have the appropriate amount of stretch - ie very little! can be very dangerous to use other types. have fun.

maybe launch ramp etiquette should be part of the baoters exam. then every one would be an expert at it just like navigating and rights of way. but truly only sbout 25% of people i see have a clue how to launch or retriece their boat. every time i offer to help they get their back up, cause they are already in a bad mood. these ecperiences on the boat ramp must ruin their boating experience, you would think they would want some advice from a guy that did it professionally for years. me and my former partner in the boat trailer game could launch or retrieve our 27 foot cruiser inside of 2 minutes. i do it with my fishing boat by myself in the same amount of time.

Question for those familiar with Quebec
smally21 replied to chris.brock's topic in General Discussion
i think the easy answer to the question is beer is cheaper just about anywhere compared to ontario. enjoy the trip and by some labbats bleu!! -
who would of thought a 40 year old motor would require expensive repairs?

crappy tire has all fishfinders at 20% off right now. big price difference between pretty similar units like the 550, 565, 570. shop with care!

my first thought was of the giant muskie videotaped going after the stainless prop of a bass boat. cant help themselves.

finally got the boat in the water from dover yesterday. tons of perch in the harbour on the way out. none outside. went up and down the north shore (mostly west of dover) from 6-20 feet with negative results. gobies aplenty, lots of them floating. awesome carp sightings, they are everywhere in the shallows, massed in big groups on the surface doing their thing. was pretty calm, should have done the turkey point pottohawk run. so to sum up, north shore was not holding fish yesterday but might be today!

Lifejackets to be mandatory in Canada/Ontario?
smally21 replied to cram's topic in General Discussion
how about mandatory swimming lessons for boaters and cottagers? yes ive seen the add with the 2 kids watching their dad float, and ive read the stats. the thing is, entering the water without a life jacket does not cause instant death. life jackets will not cure excessive speed, collisions, showing off, being drunk off your rocker, etc. while life jackets will increase survivability in the drink the question in all these 'drowning instances' should be how did you end up in the lake? we all have some crazy story about hitting the water but the fact remains many people, including myself, manage to stay dry when boating. its why i have a boat, it seperates me from the wet stuff. -
so how are we looking after the long weekend? checked all the updated posts but lets here more about lavigne and the west arm!

i have the 580 combo and added a navionics card. im not floored by it but it has been reliable and has alot of features and is fairly easy to use.
-
i have a 580 combo. internal maps are okay for direction and navigation but not for depth. navionics cards are compatible.
-
baitcaster have way more power, and faster retreival speed as well as good points already mentioned. plus the pros use them.
-
i heard back from the folks at west nipissing and they say its low but navigable. thanks to all who answered my pms and who have posted here about the west arm and nipissing levels.

i fly early out of buffalo and stay the night before at any one of the cheap hotels across the road. each has a shuttle and will let you park for two weeks with one noght stay. it is actually cheaper to stay and park than to park and fly.

lots of line! depending on conditions you require anchor line at 5-7 times your depth. i use a danforth/fluke style anchor at 20lbs. sometimes i need to set the anchor by hand, or make sure it is set before releasing it to the boat. i bought this anchor at brewers in hakilton it was only about 25.

so a group new to me has invited me to come along (and bring the boat of course) to lavigne at the end of may. im interested in any navigation or fishing tips for that locale and time of year. what is the trip to cache bay like? im running navionics premium and have local charts on the way. mostly interested in how far id need to travel each day out of lavigne. thanks.

i had an issue with a berkley lightning and shakespeare reel combo years ago, broke that rod over and over again. ine thing i would suggest if you're buying inexpensive equipment buy it from a major retailer, they have already arranged returns thru the manufacturer and typically will exchange easier than the small tackle shop. kills me to say it cause we should all be buying from out local tackle shop.

Bass Tournament Fisherman Caught Cheating
smally21 replied to Governator's topic in General Discussion
there is a lesson to be learned here. stuff an equal amount of flotation to weight in your bass. -
like the last poster stated did you have working lights at the bargman? the 7-4 adapter is probably cheaper than the 4 way tester. why are you going above the existing connector instead of using it? vehicles without factory harnesses require a module to isolate/provide the required signals for your trailer wiring system - that is turning a signal for one light into a signal for two. in a vehicle with a factory harness (just about anything these days) the work is done for you all the way to the bargman (7pin) connector. forget all this talk of grounding and frayed wires and plug an adapter into your truck and test that. if your existing 7pin fails to provide the required signals to the 4 way adapter then lets talk wiring.... hope i understood your issue correctly

i wear oakley half jackets in titanium and i'm pretty sure i look damn cool. i also have a 15 buck pair of rapalas in case something happens or to lend. i can see way better, with more comfort, and more protection with the oakleys. i keep them on the boat, in a hard case, in the glove box. managed to keep them for two seasons now. obviously heavy on the pocket book, but i use my eyes almost all the time when i'm fishing and boating. and did i mention i look damn cool????

power pro anything over 20# no problems. strongest line ever - i can tow my boat with it! pulling out snags, just wrap and pull and the hook will straighten. but i once had some flouro that broke really easy no matter what knot i tried - i kinda figured this, some cheapo buys expensive flouro, rewinds the spool with his cheap old mono and returns it to canadian tire.

i found my purchase of a new stratos fishing boat helped me make friends. if you see the blue and white excusrion at the bay wave me over, always room for one more. (but the guys from shore seem to catch more than i do???)

not sure you can put up this list without the mazda 3. did a bunch of research and this seemed to be the best deal in its class. nice range of power options, bigger than the others, well built, 16" rims standard, blah blah all in for around 20k. good luck shop around!
