  1. a little pricey perhaps canadian tire carries a portable humminbird, comes in a great ballistic nylon case, suction cup style transopomder and small 12v battery with charger all wrapped up in a weatherproof package with its own base. i sold mine when i bought my boat as it had fishfinders mounted but this unit was geat. other advantages is take it ice fishing, on the boat you rented, in your buddies etc, and if you ever want to permanently mount it buy an accessory transponder. a little rich at 289 on sale but loaded with features!
  2. thanks for the advice. its interesting how much of the best looking fishing spots dont hold fish. i dont suppose much of the grand from caledonia to cayuga supports boat traffic. guess ill stick with lonpoint for the bass - were going today from turkey point for an evening smallmouth/largemouth effort. rumours are the evening topwater bite can be better than the morning, and of course the smallmouth seem to be active almost all day....
  3. those are just exceptional. two once in a lifetime fish back to back....
  4. ive fished the dunnville dam, and the port maitland rivermouth, and fished for walleye in between. whats the story on largemouth along this stretch. most of the reedy shoreline and some cuts look great, but my success along the rest of the grand for bass has been poor. anybody have a go at these shoreline fish? im curious morning or night would be better for some topwater efforts, or if it is even worth it, i usually sight fish largemouth and pike in clearer waters.....
  5. well my rod locker is full of 100$ and up rods but no more! for spinning rods the shimano stimula and the berkely cherrywood are great rods for the money. both mimic much more expensive rods like the compre and cumaras that are some of shimano;s best. both rods are on a clearout at lebaron for around 20$. im still stuck on the expemsive rods for baitcasting but i see no need for blowing money on spinning rods. im not a big fan of the ugly sticks, they have no feel or sensitivity. the stimula and cherrywood both have sensitive tips but some backbone... just my 2 cents.
