What's your budget? You could probably get a pretty nice older starcraft islander for anywhere from 8-13k depending how done up you want it. I know a guy who has one, and it's a pretty sweet boat. Only downside is there are very few of them that are set up for an outboard. Mainly I/O.

From my limited knowledge of roofing, I understand that you shouldn't put an asphalt roof on at these temperatures. Apparently it has something to do with warm temps being needed to set up the roof. So said the last roofer I spoke to anyway. Look into it before you jump in .

I'm with this guy.

If you were looking for a new tiller boat
porkpie replied to bigcreekdad's topic in General Discussion
If you've been happy with your alumacraft, then stick with the brand. I've never been in one, but I've never heard anyone say a bad thing about them! They have some pretty good looking boats from what I've seen. I do love lund Alaskans though, that would be the other boat I'd look at. -
Fished in the middle of the last cold patch, had no issues. I don't find it affects perch fishing much. If you get on a school of fish, you can usually pick your way through them. I have had days when the bite is a lot more subtle, but they still seem to want to eat. Just my experience.

I don't mind some politics, I don't mind some off topic. I hear ya though, there are a couple dudes here that only post to hear themselves talk and I'm not even sure if they're fishermen at this point. It is what it is though, private site, run how they like it, and if we don't like it we can leave. I just stop reading when the Bull gets too deep. Give it a try!

Hey fellas, lighten up. The liberals are going to be good for us, provincially and federally. Now pass the joint and stop killing the vibe with all your conservative doom and gloom.

If lake x is lake simcoe, I'd stick to 30-35fow for perch. I don't target much past that although perch can be caught, most often they have their air sack in their throat and you have to keep whatever comes up. It happens in 35 as well , but it's easier to be patient and reel slowly when you have a dink on. 60fow, I don't have that much patience for perch. I catch plenty decent size around the 30foot mark at this time of year. Can't help you with any other lake x's cause simcoe is pretty much all the perch fishing I do.

We'd go broke at work if that came to pass.

OP, if you want to buy an underpowered boat, by all means don't listen to the bulk of advice to the contrary that you've been given. It's your cash, and we all need to make our own way in the world, we are all grown ups here ( presumably). If you feel you'll be happy with that rig, then go for it. However it's been pointed out that you can have something a bit better at a price your willing to pay by buying a boat that's a few years old.

Get the pitchforks.

If your sold on a console , then by all means I understand. If you look around you can likely find a new old stock, or 2 year old boat in great shape and get a comparable price. Whatever you buy, make sure the motor can push it. Good luck.

By the time you buy that boat with a proper motor, which imo should be at least a. 30, but more likely a 40 , you'd be at the price of a major brand. This dealer is in Thunder Bay, but I'm pretty sure you can get a similar price around here. This is just an example. $16k for a superior boat with a 40, vs 12K for a legend with a barely serviceable motor that won't even get you on plane. Just for example see link. http://www.kijiji.ca/v-powerboat-motorboat/thunder-bay/lund-1600-fury-with-40hp-mercury/1099402076?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true I'd sooner buy a boat that was a couple year old but in good condition than buy that underpowered tub. Give Hastings marine a call. I bought a Lund brand new from them in 2001, and they where great to deal with. Anyone else I've talked to since that has dealt with them has had nothing but good to say.

That there is your problem

It's not a fluke. We murdered them in the summer as well. Quality is poor, and it took us many fish to boat some nice eaters. But on the other side of the coin, triple headers where common. If the fish can gain some ground size wise, and the natives can restrict their netting a little bit, Nippissing will be great once again!

Last time I passed through Kenora, we caught 20 inch pickerel and a bunch of nice smallmouths off of a marina dock. I haven't fished the lake enough to give any advice, but I think you'll do just fine.

It won't sell for that price. A lot of the GC surplus stuff goes for big bucks. Sometimes there are deals though. They do closed bidding to intentionally drive up prices.

Ive run if on myself at 100. It's not pleasant but certainly not unbearable. My brother in law and I where chest thumping at the cottage, lol. Nothing like strapping on a collar and handing another guy the remote.

My wife has a beagle. I'm not inexperienced in the training of dogs having owned 2 pointers and a lab in all if which I trained and hunted over. The beagle was incorrigible and nearly broke me. I bought a dogtra collar for her, and it's like having a whole other dog now. She is obedient and in control. Still outgoing and friendly, and no signs of fear or paranoia. The occasional time I have to use the collar, it's strictly on vibrate. I haven't had to use the shock function since the first week. She also seldom leaves our property now and csn be left outside without concern. I'm a big believer in electronics now. Just another point of view.

Tim Hales in Beaverton or Terry Goy in Gilford
porkpie replied to FLEX ROD's topic in General Discussion
It's a pretty good rip out in Beaverton. I've actually never hoofed it myself. We always take a machine. I'm not sure how the near shore fishing is. Most of our waypoints are in deeper water.. There is tons of free parking around Beaverton, both on and off the ice. It's not a destination I'd choose for walking myself, but I've seen guys do it, and I've certainly walked further for good pickerel fishing when the ice wouldn't support a machine. I ain't walking that far to catch perch though. -

Hales. Cooks bay is nursery water. -
Floyd hales has been running them for years., along with a number of other operators . Not many running this year due to ice conditions, but they were still out in force up until last year, and I did see one smaller blue one out of Beaverton yesterday. Never heard em called a snow bug. We just call em bombers.
