  1. I moved to Barrie from Aurora with zero intention to commute. 30sec walk down the stairs last 7 years. The odd meeting in Toronto (once a month if that) which I'll book no earlier than 10:30am. #livingthedream
  2. Great job man... and great catches Jack! My boy turns 5 tomorrow (also named Jack) while he's not quite there yet with fishing you're certainly doing things the right way with your son. Every post a memory for both of you, well done sir keep it up!
  3. Nice fish looks like a great time! I also like the floater you added to your lip grabber, I must do this with mine lol.
  4. Just don't do what my wife did, take a rain suit and throw it in the washer AND DRYER melting the innards and making it useless which I found out 2 weeks ago the hard way on a 3 day trip on a crown island.
  5. I was always a spinnerbait guy for weed fishing until I started giving spoons more love for chasing pike. The weedless Johnson Silver Minnow is made for this purpose, it bounces off the weeds and casts further than any lure I've chucked. I never really thought just a silver shiny spoon could be so effective.
  6. The best way is to put down your own rod for a bit and show as much interest in helping him as he has watching you (either have him sit on your lap or stand infront of you, etc). Work with him for a little bit to get the hang of safety on the dock and the rules we have to follow. If you don't follow those simple rules someone will get hurt. With my 5yr old, he's more interested & calm about anything when I want to teach him and show him something. If I make him feel like he's a bother it's game over. Patience
  7. Oh that was so good, thanks for sharing. I loved that video of you fishing solo, I wanted more haha. What's that honey, we're out of food? Ok give me a minute, I'll go cast a line, brb.
  8. http://bit.ly/UQwvgb badum psshh
  9. I use wire, I just found myself checking the line too much though never had a problem with bite offs. I have more of a problem trusting my double uni knots than a palomer, so I stick with wire now for ease & I just trust the set up more.
  10. Pretty sure will be this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96_CMfzvImE
  11. Wow beauty man!
  12. I saw this earlier, really cool concept that I could see one day being used in much smaller, private projects like parking lots, private venues/concert floors etc, but there's zero chance any Government puts this on the roads.
  13. Those patches work pretty good, you put them on a couple hours before heading out. The thing that works best is to avoid wearing black... When I wear light or tan colours they hardly ever bite but my buddy who loves his black hat & hoody gets swarmed.
  14. I disconnected myself from my phone for nearly 3 months last year between Aug - Oct when my phone battery completely died. After a weekend away with a dead phone I realized I loved being without it, I purposely decided not to buy a $10 battery to fix it and instead embrace what I couldn't use and enjoy my family time. It had been years since I felt that in touch with my family & enjoyed myself when "work ended". I also realized no client actually expects an immediate response after work hours from an email or text message and they generally are never offended if you don't reply right away. The problem I had was I tried calling Rogers to have them end of my contract and save me about $60/month. I signed that darn 3 year contract just before they put in the 2 year law and I wasn't willing to pay to get out of it. They wouldn't cut me a break even after seeing I never used the phone for 3 months and thus I felt forced to have to keep using it until the contract ends. So I got the battery fixed and back to addiction mode.
  15. It's good the water levels are high... they've been far too low last couple years there from I believe the golf courses tapping in to it.
  16. The difference in traffic from just 2007 to 2011 in the south end is remarkable. As more big box stores got added and more communities were built the traffic exploded in such a short timeframe that we lived there. Mapleview's 3 lane wide street in each direction (as wide as 5 in some intersections) with no other cross streets through 400 makes it crazy. North end is certainly not limited by Bayfield, there are so many other routes to get around. EDIT: Also yes the street layout is absolutely retarded in Barrie lol
  17. I live about 2min away from Georgian Mall The bigger box stores are at the south end but we do have Home Hardware & Canadian Tire on Bayfield which gets us by for most things (We use to live south end and just can't stand the traffic it feels too much like everywhere in the GTA lol). Learning the back streets of whatever side of Bayfield your on is key to getting around quick. Bayfield can get pretty jammed up by 6pm as everyone flocks to shop the mall & walmart. PS I'm 30, married, father of 2 and a work from home hermit
  18. done good luck
  19. That's brilliant.
  20. a little lettuce and tomato and that's one healthy sandwich.
  21. I was planning this weekend to hit cooks bay with a buddy but he has other plans, so instead I'm considering taking my 4 yr old out for his first shot at ice fishing. Knowing how quick he'd complain if I made him walk a half hour, I thought maybe here in Barrie would be just as productive with little walking needed. Any tips on where to venture out from shore to hit some perch and if they are in reach within a short walk? I'm assuming the ice in the marina area would be darn thick and the fish have moved out.
  22. There's a boat launch for Ashigami, I believe it's on the far north east side. If you want some more info msg me, there's walleye & smallies to be had, did a weekend trip there a couple years ago. EDIT: Not far north east side. I'll message you directions to it.
  23. How can anyone say Canada sucked? Either you didn't watch the game or have no clue what domination means. When you run in to a hot goalie in a single game elimination anything can happen but those guys never gave up and beat them in every aspect of the game, including the score. Latvia's goalie was about to pass out he was so exhausted from the relentless pressure.
  24. All I know is when I'm 'done work' for the day, I'm done work for the day. You have to be honest with yourself and ask realistically how much time & energy are you really going to put in to it,
  25. Didn't they also recently ban new wood burning stove installs in favour of pellet? Or are working to pass that? Could be another province, it was months back when I read it.
