  1. I agree , nice friends . This guy needs some help from these so called friends/supporters . He doesn't need to be sold down the river by them . This is a real sad state of affairs going on in T.O. right now
  2. I guess you get the idea about everyone saying "layers" the fist couple layers are the most important . You have to keep the sweat off of you so some good wicking base layers are essential , once you start to sweat and get damp/cold you are done ! Stay away from cotton base layers at all costs as well. Wool is good over top of your base layer (wool still insulates when wet) I find that Mountain Equipment Co-Op has some good stuff for a good price .
  3. Yes a great year for sure Simon , I am going to start winterizing stuff very soon
  4. Nice report , love the dog relaxing in the boat . That is a great area to be in , especially in September .
  5. Nice fish JB , congrats
  6. Glad you changed your mind , like others have said it only takes one time to get stuck either at a boat ramp (very embarrassing) or in the bush (major pain in the ) and you would be wishing you had spent that extra money on 4WD . Good luck with your purchase and enjoy !
  7. Very nice , you had a great year
  8. I live just on the west side of Base Borden and see them training quite often in the Griffons just behind my house . There training seems to take them down the two river valleys in my area (Pine & Boyne) and some days they are just over the tree tops , pretty impressive stuff .
  9. Great pictures Lew , thanks for sharing
  10. I have become a lake trout jigging addict , help please ,well not really . It is a hell of a good time to say the least . Anyways ,in the next couple weeks I will be heading up to do a little fall largemouth fishing in the backwoods of central Ontario and was wondering if anyone here has been successful at deep water (10-30ft) jigging for good old bucket mouth. Don't get me wrong we always catch our fish on this annual trip but I would like to maybe try this pattern on this lake cause I can guarantee these fish have not seen a jig this deep at this time of the year . I have heard of deep water jigging for smallmouth but nothing on largemouth so , If anyone would like to share there experiences or tips with me (us) in regards to this pattern I would appreciate it , Thanks
  11. Thought so , I have to get some of those things and try them out .
  12. Great pictures Drifter . That is a heck of a spot , you are a lucky man . Is that a "Buzz Bomb" on that rod in the laker picture ? I hear they are great for lake trout .
  13. This is a true "feel good" story , job well done
  14. Looks like a little frost got to the top leaves I have come across a few plants over the years looking for new fishing spots , I just keep walking .
  15. That is the score of all scores , congrats Can't wait for the various reports .
  16. Make sure you wash all contaminated clothing really well . The oil off the leaves of the plant can stay on your clothes for a long time if you don't wash that crap off. I actually caught it in the middle of winter from wearing a jacket that was contaminated with the oil . I get the blisters by just looking at the stuff It is a brutal thing to get especially on your feet so be careful . Like others have said as well wash the area and keep it dry . When I use to get it really bad I use to wash the infected area with bleach (old timers remedy) , stung like crazy but it was better than the itch and it seemed to dry it out .
  17. Just got back from a lake trout trip in north/ central Ontario and it's a lake that we fish a few times each year . It is a fairly large lake that has a good population of lake trout and receives very little fishing pressure due to it's remoteness . Anyways , one of the lake trout that I caught was the same one as a friend of mine caught last year which was the same one that was caught the previous year . Yes , the same lake trout caught by 3 different people in 3 different years . You can tell by the scar on the side and deformity in the tail . This was found out last year while I was going through some pictures and noticed the scar on the side of the fish , so we were on the lookout this year and sure enough I caught the same fish for the third time . I have never heard of this happening , yes twice but never three times . I guess live release and good handling works. You guys be the judge August 2011 September 2012 September 2013
  18. Made a trip into a favorite lake for the closing of inland trout and we were not disappointed with the fishing or the weather . The weather can be hit and miss at this time of year in central Ontario but this year on our trip the weather was sunny, warm and calm for most of the trip. The trail ride in on the quads was uneventful and we made it to the lake in good time . I was quite surprised to see blackflies or small skeeters in some of the open areas of the trail (trade off to the beauty weather) but once we made it to the lake they were gone. At the end of the trail at our destination lake the sight is something to see especially at this time of year . I will let the pictures do the talking . The water colour in this lake is a blue/green colour that can only be described as "Wow" compared to all surrounding lakes that are tea colour The lakers in this lake are mostly planktivorous which make them smaller but they are all great looking fish and fight hard . The lake trout average around 2-3 lbs with the odd 6lber caught every trip . The smallmouth are abundant especially out in open water cruising around in large schools following the pods of baitfish around . They were quite easy to locate on the finder and all it took was a drop of a gulp minnow into the pack below and you had a smallmouth on (lots of fun) with a couple always following it up boat side . The lake trout were all jigged out of 40-60 ft of water with the odd one up shallow (15ft) on top of the shoals . The smallmouth were all caught suspended in 10-20ft over 40ft . The water temps. were a little warm for this time of year (61 -64F) but it didn't bother the fish . The bait of choice was 1oz white bucktails or darter head jigs with a gulp minnow or white/silver flukes. The lake trout were mostly hitting light which made a trailer hook a must . Here is a couple pictures of some of our lake trout . This lake trout has been caught by 3 different people in our group in 3 different years , you can tell by the marking on the side and tail . I guess live release does work and no fishing pressure helps as well .You don't see that every day if ever ! The sun sets on another great year at this spot but we will be back in May 2014 for some great laker action . Let the planning begin Cheers
  19. Love the backwoods reports Sal , those are some beauty specks to say the least . I was in the backwoods this past weekend for inland trout closure as well , wasn't the weather great !
  20. Spend a little extra and get a Stihl , have never had problems with mine and all my friends have them with no problems !
  21. Great report Mike , thanks for putting another trip/fishing report together for us
