  1. Our cottage was fine, my parents place had a huge white pine come crashing down on their roof oh well, might as well go fishing
  2. I don't know the lake that well, I spent a day in the boat on it last summer, I think you will be fine it's shallow/ rocky if you're trying to boat through to St Nora, but that's obvious
  3. yep, started and finished at Hartley Bay Marina yeah, a pretty cool place for 4 hours drive from the GTA, we've caught a few decent walleye, casting crankbaits, after dark in places like the "catfish hole" I was hoping to, but no, didn't see or hear a rattler, I'm always a bit nervous looking for firewood and picking blue berries down there a lady at Hartley Bay said there's usually a couple of road kill rattlers on Hart. Bay Rd after a weekend of traffic
  4. We managed almost 70 km because we cheated, we had a motor! Here's our method of travel I've seen all sections of the French, The lower section down from Hartley Bay is one of my favorite areas. We took the Bad River channel down to the Lily Chutes to camp for our first night. Geologically it's a pretty unique spot, lots of chutes and channels flowing into Cross Channel The walleye weren't cooperating, but the channel cats were Colin with a little Cross Channel channel cat Colin and Tori enjoying a leisurely breakfast planning the days route my favorite part of the trip was working our way through the Finger Boards, a maze of little islands and rocks, we didn't use the motor for this section Colin looking for a bite in the evening great weather, a late afternoon swim to refresh all done, Hartley Bay marina can get pretty busy on a Saturday morning the motor helped us cover miles, it was nice to have when we were tired of paddling, but the quiet sounds of the dipping of the paddles was nice too
  5. nice report, I enjoyed reading that oh yeah, your frilly underwear goes on your backside, not on your head (Hahaha)
  6. I've been to Killbear a few times. Casting from shore, I would say quality fishing isn't realistic, but you do have the chance for some fish. Bass or pike would be likely targets. here's an idea, especially if you have a premium site with access to the water- in busy places like that, after dark fishing can be rewarding, a worm under a glow float, a noisy crank bait or surface lure that's all I've got, let us know how you do oh yeah, if you don't feel like cooking, you can order a pizza delivered right to your camp site, I thought that was pretty cool
  7. looks like fun, looks pretty calm out there, I guess the gold fish make this count as a fishing report (Hahaha)
  8. I'm a little disappointed not to see the tackle properly belted in, come on, get your act together (Hahaha) nice report
  9. I don't think there will be a book coming out anytime soon, we're pretty tight lipped, when people around the bay ask us where we are going or where we were, we always say "Scrabble Lake" even though that's not true, kind of a running joke "how do you get in there?" - "oh, a really rough trail back that way" "how's the fishing? - "hit and miss"
  10. looks like a great time, nice report
  11. Day 1 Gord, Cam and me headed out Friday, it started raining almost immediately, we couldn't find the trail we needed and spent close to 4 hours running around, getting soaked. Here's Gord wondering why made him decide to come out here, BTW, his Kodiak 450 is likely one of the best machines for this type of riding We finally did figure out where the trail was but it was too late in the day to make the run and fish, we were all pretty tired and wet Day 2 Sunny, hot day me and Cam set out again. Here's Cam crossing a wet section (I wouldn't be surprised if RyanMc recognizes this spot We get to the lake, hit the water, and what do we find? A solo paddler hiding out. Nice guy, didn't catch his name. We pulled our maps out and shared info An old cabin fishing was good for the middle of the hot, sunny day, the biggies eluded us though cooling down, the surface layer was like soup pikerel fry at Cam's yesterday gotta love summer at the cottage
  12. We bought a new to us pontoon awhile ago, it has an older AM/FM radio with a tape deck before, when I would turn the radio on, it would play for a few seconds, then stop, power still on but no sound, now when I turn the radio on, there's nothing, the speakers bulge abit, and make a quiet pop sound when I turn the radio back off any ideas on how to trouble shoot this? I don't want to spend much money on this either thanks
  13. nice multi species success!
  14. nice pictures, seems like they are doing well for all the bird guys out there, I haven't seen a killdeer in years, where are they?
  15. great report, looks like you guys had a blast
  16. darn, I actually took the time to reset the date and I bugged it up seems like you've done a fair bit of exploring around here too, we should chat sometime and maybe share some info the picture of the boat cache was someone else's boats, we didn't use them, the boat we used that day we had permission to use, but I do "borrow" cached boats, I always leave them better than I found them though yeah, I hear ya, I'm feeling my age too, riding the bush trails and hiking had me pretty worn out will do, Cam's kind of a living legend up here, I don't know anybody with better bush smarts than Cam,
  17. Me and my buddy Cam went into the bush to scope out new lakes and try to figure out how to get to ATV trails we had previously found The day would involve a fair bit of hiking to try and connect the dots and figure out how to access the trails the mossies weren't too bad, the deer flies were relentless though, here's a deer fly trap on the back of Cam's helmet you spend a lot of effort to get into these spots and what do you find??? a boat cache we even had some time for fishing, I lost a 4 + lbs largie while trying to lip it at the side of the boat, here's Cam with one some other pics we now have 2 new lakes to check out, so many lakes, so little time
  18. awesome report! gotta love those pickerel on the spoons and spinner baits you guys were living like a king and queen up there
  19. that's a sweet canoe Christopher, Swift or Souris River?, the purists would be gritting their teeth looking at your mods to such a great boat though (Haha)
  20. I would say head into Algonquin on the highway 60 corridor, Rock Lake, Cannis Bay etc, it's got a pretty good vibe in there, in the evenings there's always stuff going on the kids might get a kick out of, live music and theatricals at outdoor amphitheaters it's a pretty cool Ontario experience, within 4 hours of the Hammer you can also buy a cool Algonquin T-shirt, nobody will know that you didn't do any back country camping/ portaging
  21. I don't know, it looks like he may have accidentally sat down on his leatherman (Haha)
  22. the video showed how big that tiger really was, the pics didn't do it justice, beauty! it seems like a lot of tigers are coming out of the Kawarthas now, I'm guessing it's more common when pike recently invade previous muskie only waters??? edit I don't know why my stuff is underlined, frustrating
  23. it's further up the road, but the French River might be the answer, some sections are good in the sense you don't feel like you're in a Prov. Park the Friday to Sunday thing is going to be a traffic nightmare and might make you lean towards Massasauga
  24. wow, that's pretty cool, I didn't know that existed
