  1. I never liked having braid all the way to the bait (spoon or tube), I use a swivel, then 3 or 4 feet of mono (yeah, flouro would be better) as a leader
  2. awesome, great pics, it takes me back I think you guys got the "Wakami Vibe", it's a magical little park
  3. big, chunky pike very cool how the finger nails match the sweater too (Hahaha) I really liked the Matachewan area and the vibe when I have been there
  4. yeah, I'd say you did alright!
  5. very cool report, reading/ watching the vids just made the last hour for me disappear very interesting colours on the fish, some even appear half blue and half gold I know what you mean about friends you may not see in a few years, and when you get together, things just pick up from where they left off, very cool, well written
  6. nice bass and bonus muskie, oh, and yes, feel free to PM me the lake name and GPS coordinates (Hahaha)
  7. that's my kind of weekend, looks like a blast, outdoor cooking has to involve drinking, that's just the way things work
  8. you take great pictures, looks like a blast, I always say- it doesn't matter who caught them, it counts for the boat, not the individual
  9. sounds like a memorable outing regardless, I enjoyed reading that Mirro,
  10. wow, crazy story, fishing can be a tough sport on the Kawarthas, glad you're ok
  11. I did, it's nice since my wife can read a book, catch some rays, we listen to music, and I can watch the rod for strikes
  12. he's a natural!
  13. sorry, I forgot to mention I wasn't on Gull Lk, you're right, no walleye there
  14. a typical day at the cottage, some solo fishing first on the list was to see if the lakers were cooperating. here's my view from the seat in my pontoon boat I caught 2, both really small with the sun getting low, I switched over to bass, caught a few, nothing huge though with the sun getting even lower, it was time for walleye, I guess the secret's out on this spot (take note JohnnyB) I caught 2 and lost a third, all fish released
  15. thanks Mirro the chair's from Hiker's Haven, it's pretty old now, I think it was about $30 and weighs about 2.3 lbs, it packs down pretty small too
  16. with all the downed trees from the storm around Gull Lk, my little Sears chainsaw just wasn't cutting it (excuse the pun), so, with my back healing (too quickly actually), I pulled the trigger (excuse the pun again) on a new Stihl, seems great, it is a heavy saw to work with though
  17. my back is getting better, I'm still stiff, self medicating at the cottage helps though (Hahaha), doctors say to keep moving so that's a good excuse to move through the bush and then move into a boat I've hurt it before, sometimes it takes up to 6 weeks to heal Martin gave the green light for exploring his new lake, but I don't have anybody that is up to the challenge to go in with me
  18. Wakami is a great little park, hopefully you have one of the waterfront sites, you won't be disappointed with the great vibe there. I haven't paddled the loop through Little Wakami etc, (Kevin Callan covers it in one of his books, they fished while paddling too, so maybe walk into Chapters and give it a read) there seems to be plenty of whitefish in Wakami, if you're interested in them if you're adventurous, take a look at your map, look north to the logging roads north of the EB Eddy Road, try to stay away from the lakes that outfitters have camps on, and go portaging/ fishing for the day, I had a memorable day back there a few years ago
  19. looks like a great day, nice report
  20. the little guy is looking bigger, great report summer's 1/2 over, keep the trips going!
  21. not cool, it's the old school mentality, anything remotely dangerous- "kill it", I see that attitude all the time in Haliburton
  22. yeah, I had the article Emailed to me today, a nice fat pike, but it's not 40+ lbs, unless Putin is 7'2"
  23. here's the crane lifting the tree off my parent's cottage, the whole process went pretty smoothly here's the audience watching the show here's Cam trying to get to the diamond in the rough, secret lake, with the prospect of huge bass, notice how he keeps his feet dry Colin with a "No Tell'y Lake" largemouth Cam's happy with his "Lake X" bucket mouth, it looks like a double with Colin in the background apparently battling a fish too Colin changes the pace and cranks in a smallie we hit a lake we haven't been to in probably 20 years, here's some of the rewards for our efforts Teagan out does his Dad on this double header we found a spot where we could consistently downrig the lakers, no size though, maybe in late summer the big girls will cooperate Teagan and Fras looking pretty cocky with only a 25 horse to tow them
  24. looks like a great trip, I'm jealous, nice report
  25. yeah, everytime I take the battery out of the camera to charge it, the date needs to be reset we cancelled, I threw my back out the day before we were supposed to leave, I'm pretty useless now, I'm also disappointed we didn't get to Muskrat
