  1. Cliff, A few years back we were in Nova Scotia visiting some friends . My friends Wife suggested we go clam digging. I didn't expect much an had never done anything like it. We ended up getting quite a haul and brought them back home. Her mom steamed them for us and we also feasted till I could not eat anymore! A very memorable part of our trip! Your outing looks like it was a lot of fun.
  2. Congrats and best of luck Nick! "A change is as good as a rest" they say!
  3. You are probably right Sinker! I guess I really have no concept of what You Tube pays. I know they make money based on Views, Likes, and Subscribers....and some ads as well! Who needs a tv network telling you what to say and do? lol
  4. I followed all of Season one a couple of years back and am a huge fan of Aaron and Jay. They do some awesome filming and are true artists at their craft. For the life of me, I can't figure out why Sportsman channel has not picked up these guys! I mean You Tube is great, but they deserve a spot on television. I watch a lot of fishing shows on tv and can't stand "Fishful Thinking"! Just too much of an "infomercial"! He can't say two words without mentioning his sponsors products. The host himself is a great fisherman I remember from the old Molson Big Fish contest days in the '80's. I am really enjoying the Season Two episodes.
  5. That looks like an awesome meal! Is the batter mix your secret? lol
  6. I never had the pleasure of meeting this legend, but from everything I have read over the years, he was a true Gentleman. His passing is a sad day for our favourite pastime! RIP Mr.Wood.
  7. A good reminder that I need to take some decent photo's of the boat! Lot's of really nice combo's on here! I realize that this one is probably better of the truck than the boat, but this is pretty much all I got! Alumacraft Escape 165, 40 HP Yamaha 4 stroke tiller, Load Rite trailer.
  8. Great to see the "Grand Imperial Wizard" back on here! It truly is a fantastic day! We had Phil in this past week for a seminar and Jeff was in before Christmas!
  9. Nice, Cliff! Enjoy!
  10. You certainly are blessed Simon! Fantastic Walleye action! I tried to see how you hook your minnows on the jig head......can you share? It looks like they are hooked through the tail? Thanks & Happy New Year!
  11. It was nice to get out and check out the gear, hear some speakers (Yourself included Dave!) and spend a few bucks on some new stuff. We went last year and also to this one. Personally, I think the last year one was a little better then this year from the location to the number of vendors. It's all good!
  12. Interesting topic Lew. I have only been laid off once in 1983 when I was an Apprentice and we were in a recession. The company was the worst I ever worked for and I never looked back! It was a blessing in disguise, but it sure brought on a lot of stress at the time. I had bought our first house two years earlier and I was making twice the hourly rate at the time of purchase before I decided to quit and become an Apprentice. We had our first baby that year too. A few years back, I was doing an event called "Future Building" in Bowmanville. This is where 6,000 to 7,000 Grade 6,7,8 kids come with their Teachers and Guidance Counsellors to see what the Building trades are all about. This couple comes walking through an I asked them if they were Guidance Counsellors or Teachers. The guy says neither, I am an out of work Auto Worker and looking for a new career! He had to be early to mid '50's and my heart broke for him. I mean it is not impossible to start an Apprenticeship at that age, but it ain't easy either. Let's face it. That is probably the toughest age to be looking for a career job. Too young to retire for many, but too old to really start over! Companies are not putting a lot of value on middle aged workers. They would rather get them young and cheap. When starting over, the years they put in do not add up to experience on the job. Maybe life experience and maturity, but no job experience when starting completely fresh.
  13. I have a pair of the BPS ones and wear them all the time (It is law that they have to be worn. Unlike the regular PFD that only needs to be in the boat). I have also got in the truck to drive home and forgot it is on! The re-arm kit is $29.95 at BPS. The auto inflate jackets go on sale periodically for around $120.00 I believe.
  14. I think times really are changing! Like you said, the younger ones don't see the value in a trip up here and passports and such are a real pain for some. Anyways, you and yours are welcome anytime! The very attractive exchange rates should draw some people.
  15. lol Paul! I think it is a "right of passage" that everyone from Ohio must go to Rice Lake at least once in their lives! As a kid, I remember most of the folks we met there were from Ohio.
  16. If this is a duplicate post, please excuse! I just read the Canadian Ice fishing Expo is Dec. 14,15, 2019 and has moved to Georgian College this year. It was a good event last year and this is their 3rd one.
  17. I am in awe of your talents! That is workmanship second to none!
  18. Those are some beautiful looking bugs you tied! Especially the one in the bottom left. I like the feathers to resemble the pectoral fins of Goby.
  19. Nice memories guys! I never made it to Lakair for any of the Get Together's due to conflicting dates with family events but I did get to a couple at the Old Firehall in Burlington back in the day. I miss Roy and his words of wisdom!
  20. Agreed Simon! Other than shots of family at gatherings and such, I have no interest in video of people! I can see why flying one over a crowd of strangers can present a problem though. Privacy and also the liability should the thing crash.
  21. Yes, the limit is 250 grams and the new Mavic Mini is 249 grams!😚 I also have the Spark. DJI is the way to go for sure.
  22. Anyone here have a Ranger Aluminum? I don't think they ever caught on here in Canada, but they are big in the US. I guess I fell behind on the information highway......only found out today that Ranger boats were bought by Bass Pro Shops......in 2014! Yikes!
  23. When it comes to Aluminum, this man knows of what he speaks! I would listen to him! I bought an Alumacraft Escape 165 Tiller in 2017 with a 40 HP Yamaha. I have been really pleased with it and when I went deep into it to run cables and wiring I was totally impressed with the construction of it. I would think Crestliner and Lund are also very good names. I personally would stay away from a lot of other welded hulls for the reasons Wayne mentions. This is my third aluminum boat, all riveted hulls and never had a leak.
  24. Yep, just common creek chub! Lots of fun for kids to catch. (oh, and big kids like me too!) lol
