The company I work at had all the outside guys take a driving / skid control course a couple years back. During the driving portion they told us to stop very close to the curb in this situation. Problem is (especially in Dundas!) a lot of the bikers will just whip around the LEFT side of you and then back over to the right side! This is not the leisure bicyclists, it is the spandex wearing "professional" bikers, and sometimes they will give you the bird when they do it... It is frustrating but you can't do anything about it. Wire gets thicker as the gauge goes down.... so 12 gauge is heavier than 16. If the 12 is cheaper than the 16 then get it!! Burt

My old Maple tree just let go in the past 4 days NF

Never heard of or seen maple sap damage clearcoat or paint. Pine or spruce, that is another matter. Pine will pucker up the clearcoat after a few days (think turpentine) so you have to get that off pretty fast. The best I have found to remove pine sap is Zippo or Ronson lighter fluid. Will not hurt the clearcoat. If it is only maple sap a nice hand wash should remove it. Burt -

I pull by hand and built one with my old downhill skis.... It is a "classic Smitty" in that it breaks down into 3 pieces and I used 2X6 risers so that my Jet Sled sits 5" or so above the base. Use a 5/8" braided nylon rope about 30ft total length (15' per side) tied up through the tips of the skis to provide a bit more lift. Pulls great!! Burt

I'm with Fisherman.... should have popped him when they had the chance... Burt

Not a "Smittly Sled" but put a 2X4 or 2X6 between the sled and the skis and this will keep the body of the sled above the powder Burt

Back in the fall after a day bushwhacking steelhead I started to get numbness in the last three fingers on my left hand. I figured I had banged my elbow and pinched a nerve or something. On and off numbness continues until now.... and now it's pain on the outside of the elbow. Doc said to ice it 3X per day and not to use it. Going to be difficult as I drive a stick too so us both hands all the time. I will pick up a brace and try that too. Thanks for the advise! Burt

Lol I was told by the guys at work to do the backhand jigging method for a while till it heals. I'll get some ice on it tonight and see how it goes. Burt

I have just been diagnosed with tennis elbow, the only repetitive motions I do that could cause it are jigging. Man is it ever painful, makes brushing your teeth or holding a coffee mug difficult. Have been told to ice it and rest it for 2 weeks..... This is going to be difficult as there is another month left of ice fishing season!!! Anyone else ever have a similar fishing injury? Burt

I have a 12 year old boxer that gets a rabies vaccine every 5 or so years, otherwise nothing else. He is basically an indoor dog, and we never went to dog parks. We just had him at the vet to get a skin tag that got infected removed and they said almost all the boxers that age that come into the clinic don't leave.... and that ours was in great condition. I think that partially has to do with not getting the vaccinations. Burt

Looks like a cusk eel but I don't know how far any of those species would come up in fresh water? Burt:)

Two Lowrance units interfering with each other
Burtess replied to Basschaser77's topic in General Discussion
Maybe it is because they are both Lowrance??? In a bungalow on Nipissing in January we had 3 units running at the same time and all worked fine, my Humminbird 570, the Elite 4X, and some model of Vexilar flasher. All within a radius of less than 10 feet over 27ft of water. Burt -
I'm with Sinker on this one, it has been a great winter so far, just like last year. Winter is my favorite time of year..... lot of stuff to do.... ice fishing, snowshoeing (new to me this year and I love it!), standing out on the driveway drinking beer lol.... Burt

Two Lowrance units interfering with each other
Burtess replied to Basschaser77's topic in General Discussion
In those long huts we always use 2 finders.... usually it is my buddy and his Lowrance Elite 4X and my Humminbird 570. No interference issues between those units 10' apart. He sees both his and my baits (I think he uses wide beam) and I just see my own. You can't fish from the far sides of the hut and use one finder.... can't see it! Burt -
I don't know your location but if you are near a Sail store right now they have 30-40% off all of their showshoes. You can get a descent pair now for $100-120 plus tax. They carry brands like GV (Canadian), MSR (USA), and Tubbs / Atlas / Louis Garneau (all off shore). I have a pair of Faber Mountain Master in 9X30" and they make it a lot easier. Got one of my kids a set of MSR Shift but I think I will pick up a larger shoe for her to enjoy on the more soft stuff. Check out the Sail website and have a look at the GV Mountain Trail ($120) or Winter Trail ($105), one of those should do you well. Upsize for better floatation. Burt
