Don't they plow the ice roads out to the huts? Can you take a compact car with winter tires without getting stuck? I am going up Jan 15-18 with Chilly Willy's..... can't wait!!! Burt

Lol.... I think for the first couple wears I will leave them as is and see how slimy they get (I always remember wet deerskin feeling gross when it gets soaked). Burt

Car stalling- crankshaft sensor replacement NF
Burtess replied to northernpike56's topic in General Discussion
Note OP said crankshaft....... I am assuming camshaft sensor is a different part? I once had a camshaft sensor error code and it was the GM mechanic that banged it loose when he was "fixing" something else lol.... Burt -
NF-Should winter tires be mandatory in Ontario
Burtess replied to LostAnotherOne's topic in General Discussion
Yup as said above if you don't think there is a difference then you obviously have never driven a season on winter tires. I never used them until my previous car ('04 Buick LeSabre). Slapped a set of X-Ice on it and I could drive around (literally) all wheel drive SUV's that still had all seasons on, it amazed me. I drive around 70,000Km per year. Just got a set of rims and Nordics for the van the wife and daughter drive. $900 and change but it is much worth it if it prevents an accident. I think it would be great to see it mandated as in Quebec. Burt -
I just picked up a pair of WindRiver (Marks Work Wearhouse) mitts and they have deerskin leather on the palms. I did some google searching and people seem to put everything on them, and also say not to put everything on them. What have you used to treat deerskin that has worked in the past? In house I have various silicone sprays (Tana All-Protector, Pro-Tex Water and Stain Protector) and my boot stuff (Mink Oil, Dubbin....). Burt

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPp1uohWXSA#t=145 As long as it is legal I guess the guy can do what he wants with it..... Dude that took the video should park it before doing what is illegal and holding his camera in one hand while driving with the other and filming himself. Burt -
Less than an inch near the Hammer.... Burt

I will check them out this week and take some pics for you. Burt

Like Brian said go by Sail first.... you have one in Cambridge now and they have a variety there. Which ones are you looking at? Oh and if you can wait till later in the week I will be in that area and will make you a list of what BPS has on the floor and the pricing. Burt

This was changed quite a while back, a treble is considered 1 hook and you are allowed 4. Note that there is no longer a mention counting hook points or live bait. Burt
-
Yes, just a couple of #4 or #6 trebles about 2-3" apart on 30lb SS braided wire. Burt

Did you express your dissatisfaction about the job to Massels? What did they say? Burt -
I asked a similar question a while ago and got lots of good responses. http://ontariofishingcommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=76651&hl= I went with Faber Mountain Master in 9X30" size. I am 5'8" and approx. 165lbs. Never used snowshoes before so we will see how it goes this season. I also just bought my 12yo daughter a pair of MSR Shift 7X20" (she is about 70lbs) so we can trek around together. I don't know if it matters to you but there are some NA manufactured snowshoes around, and also lots made off shore. Faber and GV are made in Quebec, MSR are made in USA............. Atlas, Tubbs, Luis Garneau, Yukon Charlies, are all made in China. Burt

Puts out about the same amount of BTU as the Little Buddy but way cheaper, I picked one up to try out in my flip this year as the regular Buddy takes up more floor space. http://www.sail.ca/en/catalogue/camping/heaters/28/m-3s-heater/ Burt

They are cheap but before you buy the "expensive" spincaster.... you need to look into the TangleFree.... I promise you, it will save you and your grandson a world of twists and tangles.... no other spincaster compares Burt
-
I started my kids on Johnson Tangle Free 10 reels. They have a clutch in them that will not allow the line winder (or pin thing-a-majig) to turn when they are snagged or a fish is pulling and taking line.... thus no line twist. You know how little kids will just reel like crazy when they have a snag or a fish on!! Other spin cast reels will twist line like crazy. The last place I saw them was at Walmart. You can find them on ebay though (I bought two red ones on there). Both are TF10's.... I don't really know which is older but I think the red one is. Burt

Oh yeah.... I really like burgers too!! Burt

Picked up a set of snowshoes, hopefully that will make getting out on the lake easier when the snow gets deep. Looking for a good leather (like deer or elk hide) aviator hat with real fur lining..... Burt
