  1. Go back to letters and using the phone...can't stand iPhone got one last week...kept my blackberry with buttons for as long as I could...touch screen = pain in the butt plain and simple. I remember my flip phone from a 2 or 3 summers ago, battery would last a week no glitches could tex/call with no issues...Now I get to spend more money, I get a crappy touch screen, a battery that lasts a day at best and a bunch of extra crap I already have on my computer at work/home. We are dumber than we think, the big phone companies got the world hooked. End of rant and sorry no idea how to help with your phone
  2. What frog are you using? I've thrown the Snag Proof Bleedin' Frog for 6 or 7 summers now and they are very durable. The paint on the back will start to crack up after 6 or 7 good fish, hooks will dull a little but I keep a sharpener in my pocket. Every fish I give the frog a quick 5 second sharpen to keep things "sticky". Very curious what frog your throwing, never had a problem with the skirt strains falling out either. Might need to pull them a 1/2" to one side or the other once in a while but never lost any.
  3. Nice fish, frogging is a blast takes patience so not everybody throws them usually bass jump on them when the conditions are right. Thanks for sharing!
  4. Send it to Shimano in Peterborough. $25 and they will open up the reel, clean and service it as well as fix the problem and replace any parts that need replacing. It sounds like it might be the friction ring but can't be sure. I wouldn't take this out as it stops pre-mature bail trip, it locks the bail in so when you cast the bail doesn't fly down...they get warped or bend sometimes and this will slow down the reel. We can send it for you at Gagnons...if your close to Peterborough do it yourself it will save you the $10 in shipping.
  5. Thanks for the comments guys, didn't get that big Walleye I wanted but well try some some more later this summer. Can't wait for August going to be a blast!
  6. Great report, kicking myself for not camping this year on opener week, always good fishing most years! Congrads on all those nice largies and that near 6 wow. MTBF
  7. Good morning everybody on OFC! This spring was really good to me. I got down to the creek 4 or 5 times this spring catching fish every time on my spinners and hardware. I wanted to go down more once June arrived but some Walleye trips got in the way. We did get out for some bass fishing once this year too. I got out for the rainbow's the week after the season opened up and was still surprised with the numbers of people on the creek. I'm not one to fish beside guys so I always find me own spots and pools. I'm not a bobber watcher, I know float fishing is a productive technique for trout on the creek but I hate the presentation just never liked watching a bobber for a strike regardless of the species. This is where a short rod, light line and small spinners come into play for me. This year I didn't seem to catch fish on the little crank baits so the small Panther Martin, Blue Fox, and Mepps spinners did the trick. 1/16oz-1/8oz is the size range, my setup was a Clarus 6'6" Light Power Fast Action with a Symetre FL 1000. 8lb Mainline and a 4-5lb Fluorocarbon leader. Here are some pictures from my outings this spring. We catch a half dozen or so of these each trip it seems. Fun little fight's just without the drag screaming off. First day and first Rainbow for 2015 Next trip and another rainbow. I'll leave after I catch 1 fish no sense beating the fish up they are doing the spawn so 1 per outing is fine...I did get into 2 on each one of the next 2 trips literally cast after cast. This might of been June these next few photo's, or last week of May. Small trout lot's of fun! My new PB Rainbow on the creek, never got a measurement/weight but I would put it between 6 and 8lbs at the most. This tested out the gear but all worked together great. Next trip and another pair of fish. It was a blast this Spring on the creek, as I always say it's a "warm up for the real fishing to start". Perfect rainbow, small but not a baby. Wicked fight and jumps so much power in these fish. After the rainbow's on the creek I got out with a good friend again from the shop for some Walleye fishing on Rice Lake. Brought home so nice fish on the first 2 outings, here were my "pair" for the day! Round 1 Round 2 So after the great Pre-Season I finally got to fish for some bass. Another good friend of mine brought me up to Stoney for the day and we did pretty good. My only complaint was that I was the only one who found a few bass with any size to them. We fished jerk baits pretty hard for the day as the bite was hot but all we came up with were those 1-1.5lb smallies. Fun bight but no big fish. I convinced my friend to bring me into a back bay, threw my trusty Bleddin' Frog by Snag Proof. It sat in the sun all day with HogTonic garlic scent soaking into it...It stunk but this got me the fish I believe. Once in the bay I paid attention, walked the frog back to the boat, fished the left side, then the right, then the middle. On my 10th or so cast I starred off at some bird or something when I heard the splash. Turned my head, set the hook and had the fish up on the surface coming for the boat. That scent helps regardless of what you like, let the acid soak into the rubber and those bass won't let go for those few extra seconds that are sometimes crucial. Getting myself ready and prepared for my big camping trips this summer CANT WAIT!! And my better Smallie for the day. Thanks for reading guys and girls. We have the first 2 weeks of August booked off for my camping & fishing trip. Going to fish a little harder for those largemouth this year, do some more heavy punching in the matts rather than pitch the edge frog the top and drive away. My plan is to fish areas slowly and to seek out new spots and water. The Smallmouth I keyed onto pretty good last August but now I got to find those 4lb+ size ones, I had a pair go over 4 last year with a good 2-3lb average. Chasing bigger bites as always, once August is done we will be working at the shop for 6 weeks then well be renting a cottage for the last week of September. Stay tuned, 2 more reports still to come! Tightlines Everybody! MTBF
  8. That's pretty awesome write up Ryan, sorry about the tourney not happening but heading out for a few hours was definitely a good idea. I've had moments where you throw 4 or 5 casts and you catch 4 or 5 fish but 2 hours sounds like a wicked time despite the rain. Nice Report sir! I didn't to so great on opener might post a few pics today.
  9. I'll be pitching and flipping some PTL plastics, some jig's, swim jigs too, topwater poppers in the morning, probably walk the frogs around some shallows get less bites but bigger bites. First light till dark saturday can't wait!
  10. Nice job guys!
  11. Nice fish! Thanks for sharing, those dark crappies look awesome.
  12. Nice report guys, the crappie is massive haha nice job! Thanks for posting.
  13. If it's blowing 30+ then I stay home. Fishing is always great in the wind, might need to work more for bites, do more drifting etc but always seem to catch fish under rough conditions.
  14. I'll have to give cat fish and carp a try one day. Sounds like a good day to me. Off for Walleye this week myself Wednesday or Thursday should be good. Point proven, more reports and fishing talk might bring more responses to posts like this OFC has shifter a few years ago to very open forum, chatting about harper, hockey, boats, cars, gardening, staining wood, sanding decks, cutting grass, and whatever else comes to mind haha the list goes on haha still a great place full of good people. I put up a few big reports every year, the small (1-day) reports might get you and 5 or 6 guys chatting and usually photos are a must we all know that. It's always nice feeling to put together a short story about your trip and to have fellow members congratulate/chat about your fish and experience. Thanks for posting, have had a few trout outings this spring can't wait to do a write up after a couple more trips on the lake! MTBF
  15. Oops to late, the Flat Side special I would probable use more for chucking other treble hook baits like small crank baits and such. See how it works, the extra 4" might take getting use to...get that Jerkbait special next year and your have 2 great sticks.
  16. Chris perhaps you could special order he Orochi F4.5-68XX "Jerkbait Special" from Megabass, we carry it but I'm not sure how far away you are. That rod Chris is awesome I have 7 or 8 days use with it so far, 0 bent hooks, 0 lost fish and even handed a 5+ smallie very good. The Flatside special is close but not quite as short or parabolic. Don't limit yourself if you can...I have everything from a Crucial to a NRX and it's hard to find a great jerk bait rod, that XX is super sweet won't get anything better for the job IMO. MTBF
  17. Got a few for this season, first is the same as every Spring. Goal is to catch 4 or 5 nice rainbow's on the small flatfish/quikfish & spinners using my spinning outfit, always a blast fishing 5 or 6 days after opener and catching trout on reaction baits...no bobber watching for me so this might not be as easy to do but I like the challenge. Second goal is to of course break the PB Largemouth, need a 7lb largemouth to do this. Third goal is to break my smallmouth PB out on those small lakes I fish every summer, had one close to 5lbs, went to stoney weeks later and got one a 1/4lb over 5 was stoked but still want to break the 5lb Smallmouth mark on my lakes, should make for a fun August/September when I make my 2 week and 1 week trips this summer. And the last goal is to have a successful Musky opener on Scugog. Taking the old man and my uncle out for a day of trolling and casting, got some smaller Musky baits should be a good challenge we got the equipment so always love a new challenge.
  18. Keep the 2 Rapala's on the far right and the deeper Strike King bait. If you walleye fish keep the others if not sell them all just keep those 3.
  19. Deep cranking works well for me just after the spawn when the big females head out deep to sulk and rest, this seems to be a good time to throw the 12-22ft diving stuff. Once August hit's you can have lot's of solid 2 1/2lb-4lb largies down in that 16-22FOW range...Some days when it's at it's hottest and I've had enough frogging or flipping I'll head out deep, usually just outside of pad beds 50-200 yards depending on the spot and I slow roll them....Make contact with the deep weed and rip them free. Drop shot is good when you have a percise target like a sand flat or gravel bed whatever it is. Deep cranks are like a swim jig or spinnerbait, they prowl the deep and get fish plain and simple. You need a reel with good gearing as they tend to pull hard. There is nothing better than throwing a big 3/4-1oz crank bait out deep, feeling the bait move your rod tip and then the rod loads up, great fun and something I continue to learn more and more about every summer. Everybody throws baits up shallow it's the smarter half that gets largies out deep weather it be cranks, casting big 3/4-1oz jigs drop shot, etc... Keep the baits, you don't need to many colours, I stick to shad patterns and chartreuse/black...that colour comes to life on rainy days/overcast conditions for me..when the sun is out I use translucent baits or something with glitter/shine, seems to get the fish on it down deep. I've had more than half the bass hit the bait before engulfing it...this is what I found when switching to straight fluorocarbon, 2x more fish and I also had less follows to the boat and more hookups...You can feel fine with 10lb or 12lb fluorocarbon, the slight stretch lets the bass engulf the crank bait. Almost every fish slaps at the bait, I'll say "watch dad get ready he's behind it....seconds later fish on " Hope this helps buddy! MTBF
  20. What's the photo limit? I have a room full of tackle...use to take 15 or 20 pics on here when the thread came up...now its impossible
  21. 1 on 1 it's sir. 1 on 2 I'll always say have a good day guys.
  22. Husky jerks shouldn't be more than $7.99 otherwise your paying way to much. We ordered some Shadow Rap's they should be in by the end of the month. It was neat seeing the action of that bait in the test pool. When twitching it on slack line it almost turns completely around and will start down the bass, sits tail up head down. I was impressed, I would guess it will be 9.99-11.99 it's $9 on TackleWarehouse. It will be a good collator jerk bait, it was super slow but it didn't seem to rise more than a inch or 1 after 20+ seconds in the pool. Regardless it does have a wide 1-1.5ft dart and when worked aggressively it did full turn arounds.
  23. Not last summer but the summer before I lost 3 Megabass baits. 2 Vision 110's and a Pop-X. The Popper is 19.99 the jerk baits are 27.99. I paid 35-45% less than retail, still hurts when tho a Pike shakes it's head after a quick fight boat side and snaps you off This past summer I caught 2x as much pike on the bass jerk baits and managed to shake every pike off at the boat. No lost baits this summer
